How the hell can you sleep at night knowing the thing you're investing in is using slave labor, wreaking environmental havoc, not to mention stealing and copying designs from US designers? Gotta get that return on investment though, regardless of who it's fucking over and what it's shitting up.
Had no idea what these companies were. Couldn't understand ordering 4 dresses and 3 shirts for about 35.00 total. Gave it a try and OMG. Absolute garbage. Things made out of shower curtain fabric. All this fast fashion is just like fast food. JUNK. and not good for our environment.
Exactly. That investor guy is making a lot of money off of these despicable labor practices. The one thing these companies have in common is that they pay their employees way less than a livable wage which makes the work 80+ hours a week.
Hi guys & a very happy birthday Scott. From today’s podcast, the name of the Scottish knife worn inside the sock is a Sgian Dubh (pronounced ski-en doo). Oh & a small correction; shotguns & rifles can be owned legally in the UK (with the stated restrictions), full-bore hand guns absolutely cannot! Minimum 5 years in prison for possession! Love the show, keep doing what you’re doing! Kind regards from 🇬🇧
Fast fashion is deadly for the environment. It's a horrific business. Money or ROI is irrelevant. Love the pod. Too bad Scott is an investor in that company.
Has Scott ever bought a piece of clothing on Sheen and compared it to Zara? Shein doesn't last more than 2 washes. But they are good for little trinkes you'd get at the dollar store.
I did a quick google search on the toxins found in SHEIN clothing, and there are literally articles on “how to wash the toxins out of SHEIN clothes”. So, you have to wash the toxins out (and into the water supply), but the clothes might not actually survive being laundered??? Brilliant.
Tbh yes, Shein is crappy but Zara in the last 5 years has diminished its quality by a lot: everything is polyester and acrylic, is very difficult to find organic fabrics in they garments and when they have, they are ridiculously expensive for the actual quality.
I've found that SHEIN's items can be hit or miss, but they have some great finds for trendy pieces! For basics, you might want to check reviews and fabric details before ordering.
Silly, Zara has its fashion lines produced in China and Vietnam. Only tags are sewn in it Spain which by law always them to market their items as made in Spain. Get a clue, you embarrass yourself spouting rubbish.
The import of materials that have not been certified and verified are poluting more than the "fairness" in the US marketplace. As an intermediate designer/importer for Big-Box stores, each vendor's operations and the goods we purchased from them had to be vetted on a regular basis at our expense. I assume Temu et al. are not suffering these expenses and we, the US consumers, are not being protected from heavy metals etc. while supporting exploitation of Chinese workers.
There are a number of sensible regulations that they can easily bypass. The CPSC reviews fabric flammability. The FTC controls trademarks and trade names so you cannot import Arsenal jerseys without permission. There are special rules for infants wear (choking hazards, etc). Customs of course cannot inspect these thousands of individual shipments.
Cheap fast clothes is the last thing Americans need. Most Americans could lose 90% of their stuff and they would probably be better for it. Do we really need more apps to get us more stuff?
It feels like these new rules are more about shifting the landscape than genuinely benefiting regular shoppers. Hope they consider the everyday consumer's needs too!
I. never buy anything from either Shein or Temu - not just because of their packaging but mostly because they flood countries with their cheap, crappy stuff. I don't even buy Shein from the thrift store, I just don't want anything to do with that fast sweatshop crappy fashion. Buy second hand - go to your local thrift!
It’s frustrating to see policies affecting our shopping choices. Everyone deserves a fair chance to find great deals and variety, without politics interfering with our options.
SHEIN might have a clever business model, but they exploit workers and are doing massive damage to the environment. I don’t think I could justify investing in such a company, but I don’t have lavish birthday parties in Scotland, either.
too much dirty water on these companies, tired of political tricks. Fashion industries or production industries are the same, but ppl just target on one single company, thats insane.
Kara: You make a living with the spoken word. So I would think you would be more conscious of your verbal delivery. I appreciate that you're more concerned with substance than form but you can't wholly ignore form. You can get away with talking really really fast, you can get away with weak enunciation, you can get away with bouncing your inflection around, you can get away with a start and stop tempo, you can get away with truncating your vowels. However, you really can't get away with doing all those things at the same time. Not every listener is going to intensely focus to the degree necessary to closely follow that kind of delivery. Try cutting down the caffeine, moving your mouth more and pretend you're being graded by a high school speech teacher. On a side note; shoving your face right in the camera doesn't really help matters.
I would rather have more durable goods at a higher price than more low priced crap that goes to the landfill. Or is that landfull now?

didn't expect Scott to be a borderline China shill

Galloway just came down a couple of notches for being a SHEIN investor. He claims to be values-driven but isn’t.
This this this

SHEIN does offer some unique styles and affordable options. If you check the reviews and materials, you might find some great pieces.
Scott should be ashamed of himself
They need to pay taxes😊it’s hard to return to China people say forget about it
I agree with removing the loophole.
Happy Birthday Scott
Hope you enjoyed the wall of death at the Fife

@@CherylGarrett-iq1zu SHEIN is the biggest polluter in fast fashion-which is why it’s a target of criticism.
This is gonna hurt small business importers way more than it hurts Shein

Or you could just use the captions and be happy that she's giving you her time, knowledge, and talent to you for basically free.
This terrible. How Ladies gonna get cute if they do this.
Ladies are already cute, they don't need the Chinese to do it.
@@BodyByBenSLC Your name says you know so I'll let your opinion be majority💯🙏🏾
Cute wrapped in plastic, with a dose of lead? No, thanks.
