I think in the case of the part 4 character designs changing (and to some extent the part 6 change) could also be interpreted as part of the characters' perspectives. Part 4 is narrated by Koichi, and he tends to start with being timid, so it makes sense for him to view these new encounters with people as more intimidating. But as he sees them in person and as they fight and get overpowered, he sees them as less intimidating, and visually they become more "on his level" so to speak (helps that he played a part in beating both).

Additional observation on the connection between Jouta and Jolyne: both are characters who have uneasy relations with their father, Jotaro, and have similar abilities. Charmy Green having Star Platinum's strength with Hierophant Green's noodle range mirrors pretty well with what Stone Free can do. In fact, at one point Stone Free is even commented on smelling like soap, funnily enough. Intentional call back or bizarre coincidence? Who knows...
I always like to imagine that the reason Giorno wasn't summoned to Pucci like the other Dio babies is just cause he couldn't get a passport and plane ticket sorted to get from Italy to Florida fast enough to join the fight
Watching the section about Hol Horse replacing Avdol, I was immediately reminded of 7th Stand User. In the game, it's possible for your playable character to be the one that is assumedly killed, instead of Avdol, which leads you to be the one to go off procuring the submarine instead. This sends you on an entirely game-exclusive trip, during which you encounter Hol Horse who temporarily joins your party due to mutual interests.
Clamp (the group that made Kakyoin lay an egg) is creditted with the revival of mpreg in fan fiction and are also all real life friends with Araki's wife
I've never watched or read Jojo, but I can just feel Salty's immense passion for this series. This was extremely well done! Perhaps I should look into the series a bit more!
Hi Salty, one of the 50 Jorge fans in existence. No clue if you’ll ever see this, but I wanted to say you did a damn good job with the Jorge segment. I’ve seen tons of people get shit wrong over the years in regards to the book, but it all checks out and goes deeper than I expected.
I always felt like Anasui's original design maybe leaned too far into the feminine side, so it was toned to a more inbetween version Tho I also like the theory that the more female Anasui could be a disguise he used to get around the Female wing of the Prison without being noticed But at the end of the day his whole design's point was indeed to go beyond the concept of gender reconfirmed by David Productions themselves even asking Araki about this and him saying that he would be fine if the Anime used the Female Anasui design throughout, but that was most likely never realised due to staying closer to the source material
I'm shocked they didn't ask Araki how Anasui changed, I know he probably wouldn't have an explanation beyond, "I felt like it." But on the offhand that he did, it'd be cool if there was an anime original scene of him morphing.
On the subject of Anasui, Hazamada and Koboyashi's designs changing, I think it's interesting to bring up how David Productions kept the later design of those three (probably for more consistency like Salty says), but they actually stuck closer to the manga in Part 3 and how Iggy's appearance slowly morphed from a realistic looking boston terrier to the more stylized Jojo faced doggo we all know and love. Don't really have a theory or an explanation as to why, but I always find it interesting.
I haven’t seen a single episode of JoJo and I am enthralled by these videos. I love how you always seem to have a relevant piece of background footage for everything you talk about- even the stuff in between the information. It really goes to show how dedicated you are to your content.
I still love the idea of Jouta just being Jolyne's older, unknown brother. It's not only funnier, but just fits. Makes it more wholesome than the origin 💀
Also I hope PPP comes back, I miss it so much and I have good memories of it (seeing the little dudes chatting with each other in funny quips made my day). I hope the rumor of being the JP servers comes back ia true....😢
My favorite thing about the part 5 PS2 game is an IGN article about it where the person talks about the "sexy female characters" in the game and accidentally thought Bruno was female during the scene where he licks Giorno
Seeing your tweets working on this vid and finally seeing it released at such high quality is really satisfying. Give yaself a pat on the back Saltman.
On the topic of the Gangstar debacle it's entirely possible that Araki was either thought to be or actually was referencing the critcally acclaimed Hip-Hop duo Gang Starr (Guru and DJ Premier). So it may have been yet another case of copyright law besmirching the series.
I don't know if Salty will ever elaborate on this in another video, but in the light novel Purple Haze Feedback, there's more elaboration on Fugo as a person and character development. There's also a discrepancy in origin stories, as there was no Fugo backstory in the manga. So while the light novel made it about a professor speaking poorly on Fugo's dead grandmother, in the anime it's that he preys on Fugo as a boy. Also, there are a lot of connections to other parts. Like the main villain of the book is the younger brother of Tonio from part 4, and he and his team look for a lost stone mask in Italy, that Stroenheim from part 2 was searching for before he died
1:00 I heard you mention it in the last video saying its just an "anime only" change for golden wind. but Vento Auero is golden wind in Italian. I'm sure at least 1 person has commented this before but its surprising its not at the top comments
Banger video as usual, Salty! The choice of guest narrators was great too. I found Marcie’s channel last month and it was a nice surprise to hear them here. It’s also great that Kira Buckland was glad to lend her voice to this project! I can’t imagine the insane level of work that went into the research, scripting, recording, and editing that went into this series. Mad props to you all, and thanks for your hard work. You can bet I’ll be watching the next part when it drops, whenever that may be.
56:19 italian here. While the phrase "primo mafioso" just literally means "first mafioso" and doesn't make much sense, I think it can be interpreted in the latin sense: first not as in the first in a sequence, but first as in the most important mafioso, for his role or status. (kind of like the phrase primus inter pares or the title princeps senatus) The position giorno aims for is not just any mafia boss, but the greatest that there is
ANOTHER THING REGARDING JOUTA In Part 6, there's a fun fact where Stone Free apparently smells like soap for unknown reasons. Remember what Charmy Green was named after?
Another iceberg jam packed with good stuff though most I do know a lot about. Take your time with the next one, Salty. This will be a good one. (Also the fact that the Garfield Jotaro artist lived in my state makes me proud)
I love araki's afterwords so much. when I was rewatching part 5 recently I started searching for interviews and stuff and his words about fugo situation touched me a lot. and in general the way he talks about this part is so interesting and deep. you can clearly see the passion and love for his work, and as a creator myself, it's the best thing to see from the author. his afterwords from part 6 is also very touching, like his words about how tough jolyne is no matter what and how he wants her to be the happiest. it's just really sweet. as well as his other comments which really expand the ideas and feelings of each part
Here's an update to the phantom blood movie: so apparently we are somewhat close to finding the movie as apparently there was an old website on Japanese computers that had a bunch of links one of them was apparently a pirated copy of the phantom blood movie but other than that we still don't have it and are also unsure if this will work making the search for the movie hit this really weird dead end.
Fantastic and really well-researched video, awesome work as always! One thing in the beginning that is worth noting: Romi Park, who in an ACTUALLY strange twist of fate, would go on to voice Koichi in All-Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven, which would be that character's first official appearance in a video game after being cut from the final version of the Vento Aureo PS2 game!
You have no idea how happy I am to see this video pop up in my feed. I desperately needed something silly and in line with my weird hyper obsessions to get me through work today. Godspeed you beautiful, salty man 🎉
Avdol actually does say he was born with a stand in the manga, but I don't think there's anything else on his past beyond that. Kinda sucks how little we got
This is a great iceberg thingie! I consider myself a bit of a jojo megafan lol, and I spend way to much time thinking about it, and yet I'm learning new things even now through this iceberg! Keep up the good work, saltman!
My first exposure to Avdol was Heritage for the Future, where his undershirt and pants were colored teal. So I thought he was some kind of doctor and I thought he was wearing scrubs.
54:54 Hello, Italian Jojo fan here. Yes, "primo mafioso" meaning is kinda no sense. It basically means "first gangster" like he has won a mafia marathon. The correct use could've been "mafioso numero uno" or something like that. Nonetheless "gang-star" is the most JoJo way to call a Godfather
1:10:00 SUPPOSEDLY a bootleg was uploaded recently to the old file sharing program WinMX, got deleted in 2 days, but a number of Japanese users were able to download it. .avi & around 700MB. Again, supposedly. Now only time will tell if that's true.
Even though Im not a huge Jojo fan as much my loved ones hearing deep lore about a series that has gone on as long as Jojo is genuinely Very Epic. Thank you for your passion on this Salt Man!
Small little tidbit about Diamond Records drop someone who played it since launch day When the Reversal update hit it was even stranger than it seems because there was periods where the original action gameplay WOULD come back. And some of the newer characters would get reworked to work in both styles. Eventually it was just the turn based for the most part but it was still a really weird time. Having to build resources for 2 very different gameplay styles at the same time was very likely one of the many nails in that game's coffin
1:19:38 Dont get me wrong, I have my issues with Part 5, but I will never get why people complain about the ending being a Deux Ex Machina. 1st, because there is a whole sequence of events which take place before the ending, which involve the boss trying to get the arrow, and the boss spends his time destroying and murdering the whole main cast, which is super gripping and full of tension. 2nd, the irony of people complaining about it being a Deux Ex Machina for its meaning, being "God in the Machine" which was part of some greek plays where God descended on a structure to solve the issue of the story. Thats the point of getting the arrow. Whoever gets the arrow its supposed to become an unbeatable God, like Giorno descending towards Diavolo to beat him. Much like Bites the Dust or MIH, GER is supposed to be God stomping on his opponents. Is constantly stated during part 5 that whoever gets the arrow will obtain the powers of a God. How do you want any form of opposition to a God?? The only reason Bites the Dust and MiH lost its because their users are just some of the most egotistical bastards, right behind Dio, and couldnt be bothered to finish the job while they could in a calm and collected manner. A real Deux Ex Machina would be Polnareff appearing with the arrow at the river and throwing the arrow at Giorno right when Diavolo is about to kill the last gang member. No explanation, no nothing, just a power boost out of the ass. The arrow has expectation behind it though, there are two parts dedicated to how broken it is, specially part 6 and the official mention of Requiem.
0:23:00 I’m imagining a panel where baby jolyne is hugging josukes leg, tears in her eyes, and joske pointing to someone offscreen saying “What the hell did you say about my nieces hair?” As Crazy diamond appears behind him
Wasn't expecting to see some Monkie Kid footage used when referring to characters going off-model during Anasui's segment. That show is a great example of stretching and exaggerating features to convey emotions. It's great fun! I don't know much about JoJos, but I love your videos, and iceberg content in general. So this video was a really fun watch and I enjoyed it. The guest narrators were enjoyable, too. Great work!
29:11 I agree completely, parts one and two are way too short to be cut down/skipped. I think skipping is kinda wack anyways, it would be a different story if they weren’t called parts and were instead just the name of the series and the part itself like (Jojos Bizarre Adventure Phantom Blood). That alone makes me think it’s an unwritten rule to read them in order.
I would absolutely love dedicated videos on APPP's work with JoJo. It’s very fascinating how such a fairly recent movie could just disappear so quickly, and I would love seeing a video analyzing its takes on the story and designs, as well as a video discussing those of the Part 3 OVA series, if that'd ever be on your radar, Mr. Salt Man Salt Dan
One explanation I've heard for why Jotaro (and I guess the rest of the pre-part 4 Joestars) is so huge is that he _is_ partly of European descent. Japan is a very homogeneous country and it's apparently pretty common for mixed race kids being ostracized for being "different" and Jotaro being a 6ft. tall musclebound action figure might have been Araki's way of portraying that, albeit in a very exaggerated way. Side note, but this ostracism thing could also be part of the reason as to why Josuke was picked on by some of his peers at the beginning of part 4.

I have waited 4... no, 5000 years for this!
Happy to see you back Derek
Lofi JoJo facts to relax/study to.
I always felt like Anasui's original design maybe leaned too far into the feminine side, so it was toned to a more inbetween version
Tho I also like the theory that the more female Anasui could be a disguise he used to get around the Female wing of the Prison without being noticed
But at the end of the day his whole design's point was indeed to go beyond the concept of gender reconfirmed by David Productions themselves even asking Araki about this and him saying that he would be fine if the Anime used the Female Anasui design throughout, but that was most likely never realised due to staying closer to the source material
DAMN an entire frickin movie?? I'm so glad I subscribed. I've been waiting for this! Thank you so much for the hard work, man.
I have never watch the show nor, have any idea what is going on but I enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you man of salt.
Awesome video man, but I have to say that I'm SUPER disappointed that you didn't make an Ambulance or road roller joke on 5:17
I haven’t seen a single episode of JoJo and I am enthralled by these videos.
Yeah, the idea of him being Jolyne's brother or adopted brother has always been fun to me since they'd make a pretty cool duo in a fight.
@@youngjellyfish8694 mhm! Oh yeah, like if they tag team in a battle, they'd be quite strong lol
Jouta is also probably the most BALANCED fan character ever. Eyes of Heaven had less balanced stands, and they were given Araki's blessing.
I think jouta should be real so joylene can commit fratricide (funny crime, that joylene should be allowed to commit)
To add onto the Redesign part Araki has explained that one of the reasons Tamami and Hazamada shrunk was to make them interact with Koichi easier
Hopefully we can get every iceberg part in one giant video in due time.
Still being patient
I don’t even watch Jojo, but I love this salt man
1:00 I heard you mention it in the last video saying its just an "anime only" change for golden wind. but Vento Auero is golden wind in Italian.
(kind of like the phrase primus inter pares or the title princeps senatus)
The position giorno aims for is not just any mafia boss, but the greatest that there is
The fact that there are supposed to be two more parts after this is insane
ANOTHER THING REGARDING JOUTA
In Part 6, there's a fun fact where Stone Free apparently smells like soap for unknown reasons. Remember what Charmy Green was named after?
Another iceberg jam packed with good stuff though most I do know a lot about. Take your time with the next one, Salty. This will be a good one. (Also the fact that the Garfield Jotaro artist lived in my state makes me proud)
When talking about how puberty hit Jotaro you missed a golden opportunity to say it was like he got hit by a road roller or cargo ship.
salty’s uploads >>> my work schedule
15:05 he looks SO CUTE those GLASSES AAAH
YEAAAAH FINALLY PART 2 i've been rewatching part 1 over and over.
Man, this was worth the wait. 2 hours of trivia that I had never realized always makes my day. Long Live『Thunder Cross Split Attack』
You have no idea how happy I am to see this video pop up in my feed. I desperately needed something silly and in line with my weird hyper obsessions to get me through work today.
Godspeed you beautiful, salty man 🎉
the work you put into this is evident,
jojo's bizarre adventure
Say hi to virginia sounds INSANE
Avdol actually does say he was born with a stand in the manga, but I don't think there's anything else on his past beyond that. Kinda sucks how little we got
This is a great iceberg thingie! I consider myself a bit of a jojo megafan lol, and I spend way to much time thinking about it, and yet I'm learning new things even now through this iceberg! Keep up the good work, saltman!
This is the reason why he was missing for so long, he wanted to spend 2 hours talking about the JoJo Iceberg
My first exposure to Avdol was Heritage for the Future, where his undershirt and pants were colored teal. So I thought he was some kind of doctor and I thought he was wearing scrubs.
Thank you salty I finally have the perfect video to watch for breakfast 10 days in a row
54:54
Hello, Italian Jojo fan here.
Yes, "primo mafioso" meaning is kinda no sense.
It basically means "first gangster" like he has won a mafia marathon.
The correct use could've been "mafioso numero uno" or something like that. Nonetheless "gang-star" is the most JoJo way to call a Godfather
Cant wait for the Mafia Marathon to drop
Of course I’m gonna watch a 2 hour video about a Anime I haven’t watched, I have nothing better to do
1:10:00 SUPPOSEDLY a bootleg was uploaded recently to the old file sharing program WinMX, got deleted in 2 days, but a number of Japanese users were able to download it. .avi & around 700MB. Again, supposedly. Now only time will tell if that's true.
Even though Im not a huge Jojo fan as much my loved ones hearing deep lore about a series that has gone on as long as Jojo is genuinely Very Epic. Thank you for your passion on this Salt Man!
Small little tidbit about Diamond Records drop someone who played it since launch day
When the Reversal update hit it was even stranger than it seems because there was periods where the original action gameplay WOULD come back.
0:23:00 I’m imagining a panel where baby jolyne is hugging josukes leg, tears in her eyes, and joske pointing to someone offscreen saying “What the hell did you say about my nieces hair?”
As Crazy diamond appears behind him
i can't wait for the 12 hour long video when he puts all of these videos into one video
Great work!
I certainly wasn't expecting Bug Fables music at 46:50
39:40 Based on your take on the part 4 antagonist changing to allies in the redesign section, I'm very upset that Okuyasu didn't become small as well.
"No one team of fans can make an entire production"
Touhou fans: you underestimate my power
One explanation I've heard for why Jotaro (and I guess the rest of the pre-part 4 Joestars) is so huge is that he _is_ partly of European descent. Japan is a very homogeneous country and it's apparently pretty common for mixed race kids being ostracized for being "different" and Jotaro being a 6ft. tall musclebound action figure might have been Araki's way of portraying that, albeit in a very exaggerated way.
Side note, but this ostracism thing could also be part of the reason as to why Josuke was picked on by some of his peers at the beginning of part 4.
HE DID IT
(so proud of you salt man i know youve been workin on this for a while)
Not even 16 minutes In and we already have a Trigun mention this video rocks
FYM "my voice acting aged"
IT AGED LIKE FINE WINE
