It’s never to late to begin researching your family. You must be patient and like solving puzzles or mysteries. Building a tree begins with yourself and then adding the names and dates of birth, marriage and deaths(if deceased) of your parents, and then your grandparents. Ancestry is the easiest to access the Census records and other records and to link them to each person in your family, although it is not free. You could begin there with a pay-per-month plan and see if you like solving puzzles, because ultimately that is what you’ll have to do the further back you go. You won’t want to be climbing someone else’s family tree so you must ensure that the people you find are YOUR relatives. Never assume someone else’s tree that has the same family members is right - - verify the sources for yourself. It really is easy to do though. Do not blindly accept any ‘Hints’ they are system-generated possibly valid, but if not you’ll be tracing the wrong family. Ancestry has a UA-cam channel that has information at beginner level as well as advanced. FamilySearch is free but very difficult to navigate. WikiTree is awesome, but you have to bring in your own sources. Find My Past is great too, very much like Ancestry. Monthly fee gives you access to tree building, and UK dominant records (although many US records too). On their you tube channel they also have ‘how to’ videos. Good luck!!

It is sad that she mocked the communities of the day in some of their religious beliefs and medical knowledge while she was reading. Inflection and side-comments tainted the story. I don’t know who wrote the article but I think it would have been better served as read with the attitude that more honored ALL of the human beings who lived through those days. Denigrating people for their personal choices, the ‘woke’ mentality of her side comments and the mocking of history that she added to her reading demeaned not only herself, but those who lived through it and who had to make their own choices.
