I like that ruler he uses to measure his board thickness. Tell your brother he's built himself a sweet little mill there.

Is there a video of when he built the table saw? I want to see that !

Unfortunately not, he has been tinkering with sawmills for many years and just builds them from scratch, usually with lots og scrap iron, a few purchased parts (sprockets, belts chains, etc.) and junkyard automobile engines. Kind of funny, He'll build one, saw up a bunce of lumber, decide he's got enough lumber, sell the mill he made, uses the lumber and then decides he needs to build another one. I think he's done that 4 time now over the last 30 years.

To get the reverse: Take two chain sprockets connected by a drive chain (one driven by the engine and the second is the slave sprocket). that gives you one direction on the slave sprocket, say forward. take a third slave sprocket and run off the back of the chain between the other two sprockets, then you have a reverse direction on it. from these two sprocket directions, you can make a belt clutch for forward and reverse connected to a lever. Hope this helps.

Any chance you can do a in depth video showing the mechanical aspect, with a emphasis on the carriage?
never mind I just scanned the comments and see he sold it.
Maybe he could pencil it out ?

Nice machine. Could do with a riving knife after the blade to prevent the log nipping. Keep sawing safely. regards, Ian.

I know your brother is retired and sold the mill but does he have any plans for his design?
I was looking into building one but not exactly sure where to start figuring out how it all goes together.

    • @pvplunk

He never had any design plans, he just figured it out while he was building it. He had owned mills before so was very knowledgeable about how they all worked. He is truly retired and I know he's not interested in going back to that. He started with a saw blade, next build a drive shaft for the blade, put it on a base, then added everything else.

Excellent video is a real engineering I am building a sawmill like this in my ranch but I do not know how to make the reversible system for the logs car or gear box , could you help me with some plane or scheme? Thank you so much!!!

Have a pulley coming off the main saw shaft that drives a hyd pump and install a hyd log Turner and also have a hyd motor that turns your winch drum forward or reverse. Easy peasy

What size blade did he have on this mill it looks like it’s a 24”

    • @pvplunk
      @pvplunk  6 років тому

It was a 30 inch blade when this video was taken with a 4 cylinder gas engine. He later changed the blade to a 48 inch blade and put a 6 cylinder gasoline engines on it.

He added a safety screen/guard between him and the saw blade after this video was taken.

caleb grefe not really. Those damn circular saws are scary no matter what you try. Good thing about them vs something like a bandsaw mill is you know when they’re going and that blade is not moving.

I rarely use any dogs with logs that small on my 52” circle mill.
