Brief for anyone who needs it: 1. Both models have to be Bind Skin. 2. Same Scale and Position Joint. 3. Select Original Model then Select New Model -> Copy Skin Weight ( Default Option ). The best Maya Rigging UA-cam channel so far.

If anyone is struggling with this not giving the expected results, something to consider is that when you come to put the rough skin on the mesh you want to transfer the weights to, you must select EXACTLY the same joints that were skinned when the skin was bound for the source geometry. A quick way to automatically check this is to select the source geometry and run this mel script: $sel = `ls -sl`; select -r `skinCluster -q -inf (findRelatedSkinCluster($sel[size($sel)-1]))`; This will select all the joints skinned to the source geometry. Now they're selected, bind the rough skin. Now the skin weights should transfer correctly.
I have an issue i tried but it keps telling me as I have not selected anything. both things are skinned and with weight paints. so I don't know if is maya hating me. the world or is just my luck

@2:47 Does the clothed character still have the full body underneath the clothes? Or are the arms head etc chopped off at the clothes cuffs? I'm confused because I'm trying to add clothing layers to a naked character, I've got the naked character mesh itself plus some items like a jumper, boots, jacket etc. And whatever I do, I can't seem to bind them with a perfect solution.

Quick note - In order to copy the weight paints, both meshes have to be binded to the same skeleton - Hope that helps :)
