The same author did another story about two of the rare people who survived consuming mermaid flesh and had become immortal. One had consumed it without realizing what he was eating, and the other one had been raised since birth to become a sacrifice in an attempt to dilute the toxicity and make consuming it safer. They were traveling around and running into various other scenarios of people who had attempted the same and failed. I hope I can find that series again someday.
@@shuichikurama1760 Mermaid Forest author is Rumiko Takahashi. There are two parts to this story, the older one from which this video is and the newer one, you could say it's a continuation of the first one
She doesn't want to stay youthful forever. Immortality give her anguish and bitterness. She live for revenge and yearn for death. Eating mermaid flesh was not her choice. She was tricked into eating it by her sister. Transplanting arms from corpses onto her own body is to relieve her pain rather than for vanity reason. The manga and anime explained her story clearly.
I am sooo happy to finally see someone talking about the Mermaid Saga. Rumiko Takahashi out did herself with this horror. I still have the original on VHS and it one of my favorite anime horror manga and anime. 🤩
Do the two main characters live happily ever after in the end? Really invested in this video, but it doesn't say. I hope it didn't just end there. This was a great video. Depending on how it actually ends, I'm definitely going to watch it.
@ Yuta and Mana? Yes, they live and go on to encounter more mermaids and the people involved with them. The manga got three volumes and, if I remember correctly, it concludes with the two still on their journey together.
this whole show was severely inconsistent with some of its lore. Like the mermaid flesh corpse was still fresh and yet in one instance someone ate rotten flesh. Eating mermaid flesh makes one immortal, die, or mutate into a monster and yet mermaids age themselves? There are high mermaids? Like a version that can become human appearing and need to eat the flesh of 1+ lesser mermaids to carry their pregnancies to full term? Were those old women normal mermaids or high mermaids? are lesser mermaids immortal but high mermaids not such? Why didnt the mermaids eat the immortal man too? He had a nice face and transitioning from a female to male if such is what would happen is better than dying outright unless its impossible for them to use immortal human male flesh. Also, how the hell do these two (but mostly the guy) keep meeting people who are somehow involved with the mermaid flesh thing? Isnt it supposed to be a rare instance? And yet its all too common, though I do notice the gradual change in the timeline as the world advances around them. And also, when did this ever end? Does it just keep going on and on? Do they ever find a way to be mortal or do they accept they are stuck like that and just be together forever? Did the series (mostly the manga or novel, not just the anime) just like, end without a true conclusion? It was an interesting story (even with the inconsistences) but there are too many holes and unanswered questions that it drives me crazy.
I love this series! I wish I could find the last 2 manga's in English as they are impossible to find now and I am missing them from my collection, but man, this is S tier stuff.
The crazy amount of convenient plot twists would classify this story as a deus-ex-machina. This show was more soap opera than your average soap opera when it came to plot twists.
human eats mermaid flesh = immortal. mermaid eats imortal (MUST BE pretty) human flesh = becomes pretty human °°° so ehat does the youngest mermaid gets out of this? anf wasn't this a one off meal? (instead of reg feeding, requiring reg death)?
It's the same author of Inuyasha. This series is very short but very good.
