I drooled over these fabrics and designs. I am retired now, but I used to love buying a new suit. Our local tailor has been creating fine men's suits for nearly 60 years, and it was a joy to get fitted for a good suit under his careful stewardship. Well, he'll retire next year, and thus we passeth out of an era. You asked about costs. At first I thought, "You're not scaring me." After all, I own seven beautiful suits, ranging in cost from $900 to $1,600, each of which I wore with great pride and self-confidence. Then I saw some of your prices and instantly knew I was bush league. But if I had that kind of money, I would pay your prices with glee.
If this is top of the line, trump class, I would stick with the bush leaguers myself. I say 10 grand max and buy gold/silver/ what have you and secure your future.
Nice if you can afford it. However, I suspect Warren Buffet buys his suits off the rack. I would judge a person by their character, not by the suit they are wearing.
Big fan of Brioni. Only suits that I wore for 30 years. Of course I was slim and fit which seemed to match their style. I averaged 50 international flights a year during that time and they always looked sharp and crisp. Got married 3 times as well.
I own Zegna and Brionna suits from my days presenting seminars to the accounting profession. Looking sharp and successful was once standard while in the public eye. Not so much anymore as everything has gone casual.
Of course, the quality of materials are important. However, having a master tailor craft a garment makes the suit a game changer. I’ve bought off the rack suits by Canali and Corneliani. Then I took them to a master tailor for proper fitting. They looked exquisite indeed. Please don’t misunderstand. I’m saying most men can’t afford $100,000 suits. However, there are other options that won’t break the bank. In summation what ever your price point may be the proper quality experienced tailor is essential to make it look fantastic. Cheers!
Thank you for your detail in the “Padding stitch” ditto for the mention of the fabric names. Very nice that most were in more or less…solid colors, not patterned. Curious to know, how the hems are “weighted down” . Of course I’m in the CHANEL chain frame of mind. Prices are matched to the hours and expense. If the “Suit” makes the man and his desired “Image” standing, walking, seated… that’s his “Wearable Home” my name is “Nurse Jane” I appreciate, quality, style and workmanship. Thank you!
I had a friend who wore $2500. suits in the eighties, problem was no matter how well they were made, tailored ,he still could not carry them off. Always looked sloppy. One of the stranger things I have ever seen.
There are men who can make a J C Penny's T-shirt seem like a finely tailored piece of clothing and men who can make a $10,000 bespoke suit look like it was made for a clown! Neither adds nor detracts from one's IQ.
Brioni are in my opinion the very best and always best fitting! I own several plus 3 sports jackets! I never bought the silver threaded one! Crazy prices! For around $8000 to $12,000 you get first class Brioni suits semi custom made!
I put Brioni a little bit behind Oxxford Clothes and Kiton of Suits that I have owned. A bit more care and handwork in those compared to Brioni which is mostly machine made. The fully hand stitched lapels on Oxxford suits are much nicer than the machine stitched Lapels on Brioni. Of course it comes down to preferences and what suits you and as you said fit.
Remember Gandhi? He weaved and stitched his own clothes! Cost .00001$ - but everyone remembers who he was and how he dressed! How many (except their cronies) will recognize the person or their "suit"?
I don’t mind paying good money for exceptional materials and outstanding craftsmanship; however, there is a point beyond which the cost becomes absurd. It’s up to each of us to determine the value of what we will or won’t agree to pay. After all, it’s only a suit!
I love a well made suit, but these numbers are insane! I don't care how much money I have, it'll never go towards one of these! Let's see, a new condo, another investment property, put another grandchild through college, a few cruises and vacations, I can think of a number of things to blow that kind of money on, instead of 2 or 3 pieces of clothing! But, to each their own!

I have had made-to-measure since I was 19 yrs old, but never bespoke, as it is beyond my pay grade. However I have been an admirer of master tailoring for many years. I would like to learn , at least, to make my own trousers and vest (waistcoat.) Perhaps this dream is unrealistic. Although I very much appreciated your survey, to see an 10:30 MT use a pattern for a work of art in this ballpark is quite disconcerting, but perhaps this was done for a suit costing much much less. On one other point, I must be inflexible. In this era of global economy, there is no acceptable excuse for sloppy mispronunciation of MT’s names who are Italian, French or British. Not taking the time to verify and be coached as to the correct prononciations of their names calls into question the work of the producers of this film. Nonetheless, I thank you for this survey.
This is what you call insanity. In what way is a suit worth 45k? There isnt a cloth in the world worth all of that. No needle in thread can produce that, but welcome to a world of foolishness where people are conditioned this way. Most people dont even give a shit. Its a suit for crying out loud.
no, its deliberately for comic relief to equal the suit prices mentioned. I also get a kick out of NPR announcing the San Francisco Opera performance of Verdi's "Un Ballo in Mascara"
Any brand suit is second rate. The best suits are made to measure from a reputable tailor. If you know a good tailor he can make any style you want. He will explain which fabric to select (based on what season you are wearing it in) and will alter it to your exact body. I bought a Hugo Boss suit for $1,500 and I thought it was great. The tailor took it apart and showed me it was glued together. It was made in a sweatshop in eastern Europe. Just horrible. But, a good hand made suit will cost you at least $5,000. Probably closer to $10,000.
There's one with 18k gold thread stiches in the fabric missing from this list. Paraphrasing from others with updated language, it is the person that makes the suit, not the suit that makes the person wearing it.
These creators of high quality garments have understood the fact that people are born with an overwhelming feeling of helplessness and anonymity once they attain to an age when they see the world around them. Man is therefore forever seeking the means to attain elitist distinctiveness and a feeling of power in all its forms. The very idea that you wear 'the Emperor's clothes' is very attractive to those who can afford to pay.
With expensive suits, there came the demand you keep your personal weight to within 2% from when the suits were made or they will all have to be altered or scraped.
I've owned a couple of custom suits that I bought in the Orient, where they were much less than in the West. To answer your question, custom suits can be altered to lengthen the waist by adding 2" and the chest can be loosened by maybe an inch without making it look bad.
@@classicsciencefictionhorro1665 I had all the above experiences, it is much easier to have a suit made in the far east than say Savile Row, not to mention far cheaper. You stay in HK or Shanghai a week and you can have all your suits done, say 4,6 suits. Suits all look the same to me. Usually, people wear black shoes and a tie. What is the purpose of a tie? It appears as a military uniform. Why do suits have to have a jacket? It could be too warm outside for a jacket. In summary, suits seem to me to be outdated.
Sorry man, just sounds like you’ve never wore a suit before. It feels nice to wear fine soft fabrics. I wear suits 3dys a week, obviously it’s different for everyone.
@@mlinecomposites1 In fact, I worked for years and had to wear a suit. I did not write about the material but the design. I was also in the military. Suits to me are like military uniforms. Everyone tends to wear black shoes and dark suits. The only thing that varies is the design on the tie. Also, what is a tie used for? I think it is useless but just used for decoration.
You men's suit lovers have never experienced the tyranny of having to wear a suit and tie every single day in the office. Five days a week, wearing a suit just to make a living! So boring, and what a choice: boring old grey suit or a boring old blue suit. Just a stupid uniform and all the money you had to spend on dry cleaners. I don't miss those days. Suits are fine for formal occasions but hopeless as everyday wear.
@@steveedwards8490 I agree. In the 90s I had to wear a suit Monday through until Friday. Recently I gave all of my suits and dress shirts to Goodwill. My son took my ties and shoes.
If I'm understanding you correctly, a ton of it is psychological but ask yourself: Are there things you enjoy as a connoisseur that you'd pay a higher price for? Now imagine you had a TON of money (like, multi-millions, even billions). And you've purchased something exclusive that almost nobody else can, and you'd enjoy it (it's not just a flex on other people but something you really like). Enter the suit that costs +$100k. Or the car at +$300k. Or the house at +$5 million. Or the wine at $2,000. Etc. Etc.
Rational talk: With great fabrics and finish it might cost 30$, with fine fabrics can go up to 200$.. with rare fabrics it can go up to 400$.. talking about 400-700$ price tag is understandable.. goes to 1000-1200 still acceptable.. higher than that crazy but still manageable up to 2000$! But with the price tags in this video it is insane! Selling the psychological need to sick people!

@@ArtFreeman oh I understand. Yes sir, it’s definitely all decoration
My son took my ties and shoes.
madness, go to Thailand 200$
I'm sure the Suits looks nice on the Person wearing it but how much of it is Psychological.
Etc. Etc.
Great video but not work not worth $100,000
Rational talk:
With great fabrics and finish it might cost 30$, with fine fabrics can go up to 200$.. with rare fabrics it can go up to 400$.. talking about 400-700$ price tag is understandable.. goes to 1000-1200 still acceptable.. higher than that crazy but still manageable up to 2000$!
But with the price tags in this video it is insane! Selling the psychological need to sick people!
