Check out other work by Circle too! They're one of the best and most respected Finnish bands out there. I would recommend their krautrock-ish early 2000s albums Prospekt and Taantumus.
I'd argue he's already hit the streak, if we're counting the stuff he has done with Hen Ogledd. Mogic and Free Humans are absolute bangers in the world of freak-folk-synth-pop-avant garde music
Glass Trunk, Nothing Important, Peasant 2020 and now Henki, he's already hit the streak, and this is leaving a significant portion of his catalogue out. But honestly any one of those albums on their own are enough to cement him as a great imo no one else has or will do it like him again
The dynamic duo Mika Rättö and Juha Lehtisalo from Circle have really impressive collection of music projects and collaborations.. They're great live too.
Not a huge prog fan but I have to say, Dawsons songwriting ties it all together and it’s really impressive. Will definitely be sitting with this for a while.
The last two, Mogic and Free Humans were definitely more in that pop lane. The band's first two records though, very noise concrete/avant garde kinda stuff, and their new EP is kind of the bridge between those sounds, moreso electronic.
@@SteMail926 it's not for everyone (ie the albums Bronze and the self titled) but it is interesting if you're into that genre. Also that new EP from Hen Ogledd "No Wood Accepted" released on Monday. Very odd stuff lol

See this is why I don’t agree when people say that Anthony is a super harsh critic - this album is just full of stuff he likes, so he gave it a 9. Has any other critic given this album buzz? No. So therefore we can conclude that he doesn’t just save his highest scores for the biggest and best overall albums, he just gives them out when he deems it appropriate like EVERYONE ELSE. People who make the argument that “a 6 from Fantano is like an 8 from anyone else” have just clearly never seen any of his many reviews like this one.
@@Vitty123 great use of a critic! The value of a reviewer is their consistency - they don’t have to like everything that you like, but you need to be able to get a sense of how much you’ll like an album from their review, which as you’ve just said, you can. My problem isn’t with Anthony, it’s with his fans. If he gives something a 7 and you think it’s a 10, it doesn’t mean that he’s being as harsh as he usually is, and that therefore the things he gives an 8 would be an 11 for you, it just means that he didn’t love it. It’s really quite simple.
You know, The Quietus has been singing praises for Dawson ever since 2014... And the Guardian, Wire Mag, and Uncut. Ya know, there are different music sites other than Pitchfork...

I gave this one a solid chance, but I think I like it more in concept than in execution. The vocals are definitely a bit rough for me. A lot of the songwriting and instrumentation is interesting and there's a lot of depth to take in on this record, and unfortunately for me, the vocals really checked me out of the whole thing, as did some of the slower, less complex pieces of the record. I imagine that as I revisit the album from time to time, I'll enjoy it more, but it's really hard to listen in a single sitting for me. Lots of great ideas, lots of cool stuff on display, just wasn't meant for my ears. Definitely worth checking out if it piques your interest, though.
