Two in a Million? Rare Mosaic Racing Pigeon

This video shows a rare mosaic racing pigeon. I have raised four Mosaic Pigeons in 50 years. A mosaic is a pigeon that has the color of two different pigeons on the same pigeon. For example mealy and blue check. I raised all four in the last 17 years. All pigeons being bred from silver colored Staf Van Reet hens. One hen bred a mosaic last year and this pigeon this year.

Some hens do seem to have a genetic preponderance to producing them. They "should" be extremely rare freaks, but some hens seem to produce A LOT more than they should.

Never raced one. I ended up selling them. They are so rare that the demand for them bred from top bloodlines is high.

Believe it or not, after 45 years with lots of different breeds (and tens of thousands of youngsters), a Mosaic is still something I've never produced, even though I've produced all kinds of genetic oddities in that time. They are truly "one in a million" occurrences.
