Thanks for the video Randy. It reminded me of my ride on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad in Skagway, Alaska, except we did not have that open standing car.
Outstanding video quality! My wife and I just rode the Skunk Train a few days ago, and I went looking on UA-cam expecting to find a few shaky, blurry videos, and instead I found something 1000 times beyond my expectations. Great job! I requested that he sing the Kingston Brothers song "MTA", and when he got to the part "poor ol' Charlie" he stopped his guitar and pointed to me, and I came in right on cue with "poor ol' Charlie" as if we had rehearsed it forever. It was funny.
I had the GoPro on one of the simple poles that allows you to hold the camera away from you while you take your own picture. It is about 24-36 long. I held it out the side, high overhead, and down low outside the train. When hanging the camera down, you can set the GoPro for being upside down, so that the picture is right side up. Neat feature. Saves fixing it while editing.
Randy, Greg is a very talented musician plus he can play and still keep his balance on a moving train! Next time I visit Mendocino Brewing Company in Fort Bragg to have one of their great Old No. 38 Stouts, I will try to do it on a day the train is running. 73
"Kingston Brothers"? What was I thinking? OK, Kingston Trio. It's funny, during his breaks we talked at length. It was funny, mostly we exchanged dumb blonde jokes. My wife was standing right there, and she's blonde. She was a good sport, though. She's blonde, but she's not dumb, in fact she's very smart, so maybe that's why she puts up with them. I highly recommend this trip. Not cheap, $49. But well worth it.
I did overhear saw some comments of if steam engine 45 is still running but...... It doesn’t seem like she’s ran Since 2014. So I know what this means steam engine 45 had to go go down for a mandatory 15-year rebuild boiler recertification. Now this does not mean that it will take 15 years to get 45 back up and running this means that, the reason why this was the last excursion run was because of the locomotive’s boiler fumes, which day typically last 15 years, but restoration work takes typically 2 to 3 years to get the locomotive back up and running.
I hope sometime in the near future #45 can return to service, when it’s overhaul is completed. I would like to see this engine in operation at the CWR.
@@canadianrockymountainrails8423 I have went to the Skunk Train before, but I didn’t went on their steam locomotive. Maybe after it’s overhaul I can see this engine in operation for the first time.
When you had your GoPro over the side of the train towards the beginning, were you using a tripod or were you leaning over the side of the train like that?!
Very nice video Randy!! There used to be a train that you could eat lunch on while it was moving in Eureka Springs, AR. My mom, dad, and me were going to try it one time when I was in grade school. Well it was pretty expensive, and you only went like a little over a mile, and back, but very slowly, so we didn't try it. How long was your trip on this train? I'll have to keep this in mind if I every get out that way!!
Bob, glad that you found my video. Greg is great, he really made our ride a lot of fun.
My Father worked for the Railroad back in the 1900's. Awesome video thanks for sharing Randy.
Love the video.
Very nice video work Randy, thanks for letting us ride along, that was great! 73 WDØAKX
La Nell and I would be one of those train folks, steam engines are amazing. Thanks for sharing

The trip was about 4 hours, with about a 45 minute stop at Northspur. Cost was $49.
Thanks for the comment, I haven't watched this in months. Good to see it again myself.!
