That announcer is a right pain in the nether regions! Knows nothing about aircraft! And Virgil is likely to be affronted by TB2's description as a ' pug ' !
Ion Metered Pulse Drive! The main engine of Thunderbird 3 ! The Rocket Launch Engines can only travel at capabilities of 60,000 mph to clear gravity wells of planets. The Impulse engine can reach 25% lightspeed. Which makes it a interplanetary spaceship. Reaching planets in the Solar System.
Sadly despite what thunderbirds and Star Wars insist, ion drives while real and likely the single most efficient engine used on spacecraft, produce abysmal thrust given they accelerate individual xenon ions to high speeds to generate their thrust (which while doing that very fast, is nothing compared to a chemical rockets throughput) They can achieve those speeds tho would need to burn for literal years on end and need a huge tank of xenon fuel and probably a nuclear reactor for power (they do suck up tons of energy so Star Wars is right on that part)
@@TheEventHorizon909I would never claim that Ion Engines are capable forms of propulsion. These have to build up speed over time and is as slow to do so as you describe. Knowing Star Trek Tech as well as I do. Ion Metered Pulse Drive is based on Ion engine tech but because of pulsing the ions - it's slightly more efficient in propulsion than the ion engine! But it does suffer from similar limitations based on that technology. This I do certainly know! So I agree with you in large part!
On the bright side, I love how ordinary folks react to the Thunderbirds going into action. "Thunderbirds are GO!" seems to be this 2060's answer to "This is a job -- for SUPERMAN!"
In the episode the icarus would have become much more unstable than in the episode. It’s not like a tow truck working on flat Road, this is in the air, once the icarus slows down enough thunderbird one would just be dragging it along and it could kill the pilot and it would make Thunderbird one hard to steer. Also the landing the Icarus would hit so hard on the landing it would surely kill the pilot because the wheels wouldn’t just work.
The gravitational forces would have torn her to pieces. the human body is not made to withstand that kind of sudden gravitational pressure change. if she were to eject she would not have survived.
With a little bit of help with the fan! Tom McLusky might have just contributed to the rescue.
Yeah, true. How do yknow Tom's last name? No one mentions it in the episode.

Think the bloke was having flashbacks to a rather nasty encounter with 'Bertie...

Gordon thinking lunch ! As opposed to the air show. And everything else went to the dogs😉

And I bet the grandstand's filled with people who were saved by the Thunderbirds over the years!
imagine if they did that in the og 1965 show
How dare they let people watch and probably film them!
Of course the bath says it all🤣
Hey fun fact! Keiko & Toshi Murakami from season 2’s Hyperspeed make several cameo appearances.

Gordon is good with Tom
What if Scott turned thunderbird 1 around and turned the thrusters to full? That would really help the Icarus to slow down.
Yea, it helped slow down that train in 'Runaway,' so it'll help slow down the Icarus! 😉😊
@@thunderbirdsharrypotterfan if Scott could do that, the episode would be over faster.

You hear that Mr Scott Sir?
Pushing the limits is a challenge.. But technology has drawbacks.
