    This is the first of likely several videos delving into this topic. Honestly, I am a little uneasy making this video due to the lack of information regarding this part of the MSI Afterburner tool (hopefully I do not make a fool of myself). But, if this information is correct, it gives us a window into figuring out what's really going on with how Tarkov allocates memory. Please do comment your thoughts and thank you so much for watching. :)

    Just to summarize, here's the main message: MSI Afterburner's "usage / process" monitoring option showcases that Tarkov uses drastically less VRAM and RAM than it actually allocates for itself to use. There are multiple explanations for this that I can think of (and that I discuss in the video) but nonetheless it does occur on a disproportionate scale to other games I know of.
    What do you guys think of these numbers? Should this be something that is more often discussed? I have not seen much discussion of it online and its often glossed over. Even if this painted me as an idiot, I had to bring up the numbers that I found with this and get your opinion.
    Also, apologies for the weird flash at 9:30. I love when my editing software does silly tricks :))))))
    As always, thanks for watching!

    well if you only have 8 gb vram you are already pretty limited on streets. also mip streaming causes like a 30-45 sec black screen after every raid if you haven't noticed. lower textures on street setting makes the game use only 1/2 the vram for me but will make the map look horrible. to me it looks like the game i scaling the vram/textures to fit the avaible vram/gpu, which is what you want for people who don't have super gpus. i think the only reason it stores shit on your ram is because you are limited on vram. tbh some people should be glad that they can even run streets as a map, because its big and people are still running it with 6gb gpu's, so the fact bsg made it possible for them to play is kinda crazy.. and weather it is worth using high or medium or low textures, depends on what resolution you play at. 4k textures are no joke.

      I agree with you I am kinda shocked it runs on my machine but only just. 1080 card with 8gb vram, map would only run have the time with 16gb other half would crash until I upgraded to 32gb now it runs stable but slow. I recently got a 4k monitor and I run the game on 4k and low/off everything else. It's not even funny how much of a difference 4k makes for being able to see, and weirdly enough it doesn't hit my fps a ton. I am thinking you are right this game probably needs a ton of vram to store all the assets. Probably a big cache too. Mip streaming made my game look like shit and cost me like 15 frames. Same for downscaling. Nothing seems to help other than just minimum everything and take the hit to run 4k. My msi monitor has some "intelligent image enhancement" crap that seems to help visually though not with fps obviously.

    I am sure you already are aware of this but have you compared to the date available in the in game overlay via command console "fps 3"? I noticed the other day it claimed about 5gb VRAM on streets(Low) which I found very hard to believe.

    All I know is that tarkovs vram usage is insane. I have a 4090 so I have 24G of vram to play with. Using HwInfo64 I can see that using high textures on streets will chow down 20G of that vram. I haven’t payed attention to my regular ram usage but I have 64G of that so I don’t have issues. But still, 20G vram….that’s bonkers

      That is actually nuts. I've had people come to me with 4090s and 7900 xtx's fully utilizing the VRAM buffer (24G) and then subsequentially overflowing. That's another reason why I feel like Tarkov is allocating so much that its hurting the players.

    At this point I honestly can't tell what the Tarkov does to systems. Results are so inconsistent, I talked to people with beasty rigs like 4090s, 64 gigs fastest ddr5, top cpu galore and they have more fps than I have obviously but they have stutters. Meanwhile I play at 3440x1440p on high textures(with a bit of SSR and HBAO) on my good ol' reliable 1080ti, with i5 13600 and 32gigs of fast ddr 4 and on streets I have 70-80fps, dips to 50 when scoping in. Thing is my FPS is overall lower than most of the people, especially considering resolution I play at but I have absolutely zero stutters in this game. None whatsoever. Edit. No mip streaming, no fsr.

      I have a 1660 i5 and 16gb of ram on 60fov stretched res with all my settings set for performance and sometimes my game stutters so bad that calling it a slideshow would be an understatement

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  7 місяців тому

      Its mainly because Tarkov and PC builds are likewise inconsistent. A whole HOST of differences between builds are present. That combined with how performance can vary from raid to raid makes it really, really hard to get like-for-like data to compare FPS. (Also, there could be some scheduling issues for intel 12-14th in terms of P and E-cores too- literally the options for difference are endless). Makes doing what I do very touchy but still (hopefully) needed.

    • @crisnmaryfam7344
      @crisnmaryfam7344 7 місяців тому

    • @NulJern
      @NulJern 7 місяців тому

      it all depends if you are gpu bound or cpu bound and resolution. unlocked fps doesn't really matter and not that many get 144 on streets anyways lol. and almost every tarkov video on youtube about graphics tells about nvidia settings and how to unlock fps lol. none issue.

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  7 місяців тому

      The main reason they are struggling with that is because clearing out too much of that RAM at a time can introduce major stutters to your gameplay. Nikita (I believe he said this, either him or BSG) said that A.R.C was hard to implement due to this, hence why it mainly clears when you open the menu with A.R.C enabled. Its a mess.

      Bc ram cleaning isn't just a magical extra fps button, the game is storing assets in ram for a reason, it's bc you're probably likely to see those assets again and that's why you don't get pop in and shit like that. Ram cleaner literally does nothing for me I get a massive attack of stutters and fps drop then after 30 seconds to a minute it will go back to normal and refill the ram back up again. That is using both ARC setting or john koshy ram cleaner. The game just has a shit ton of assets, theres nothing you can do about it, maybe there's some ai tech in the future that can be leveraged to manage the assets more intelligently, in fact I think nvidia is working on something like that, but if you can afford newer nvidia cards you probably aren't struggling for frames.

I spent whole nights trying to understand what the cause was, but when I realized what was said in this video, I resigned myself and changed my game. the problem is not our PCs, but the Tarkov programmers who will all be kids with no experience and Nikita who until yesterday played the flute. all the money they earned on this game was invested in something else, another game "Russia 2028".. so if you want to solve the problem.. change the game! There's no other game like this bc tarkov is like trying to run your hyper modded janky skyrim install online with 16 other players. There's a reason similar games like warzone or dayz or fallout 76 all have either bad graphics or minimalistic ui and textures, even warzone doesn't have all the little trash bits and stuff and you can't examine items, it's just a text entry in your inventory. Even games like warzone aren't rendering every individual bullet in every individual mag in every individual mag pouch like tarkov does, you just get an ammo counter with infinite mags. I think if this game survives long enough what they need to do is add an optional "potato mode" where a bunch of those assets are removed from in raid. I don't really need to be able examine every individual pixel on some scuffed makarov I got off a dead scav, etc. I mean hell they could even do janky bandaid stuff like make it display a wire frame model. It would still free up a lot of resources in raid.
