This mission is basically all RNG when it comes to getting an S Rank, I got 65 A Ranks in a row, then got 1 B Rank even though I felt like I did better on that attempt than the previous 65, then got 36 more A Ranks after that. By that point I was completely dead inside, I had been furiously raging at the game, yelling, screaming, and hitting the arm of my chair up until the last 5 or so tries, but during the last few I had lost the ability to feel any emotion at all. I finally got the S Rank on it on my 103rd attempt but I didn't even feel satisfied, happy, proud, or even relieved that I didn't have to do it again. I just felt nothing. That mission literally drained the soul out of me.
Damn, I think the trick was to take as little damage as possible. All my runs took about the same time, but the one i took the least dmg, 2k repairs was the one i got the s rank for.
Just got my S-rank on the third try. Honestly, I did not complete it with maximum haste; extremely casual. I used the Pile Bunker and energy shotgun.
The thing to note is damage you take. If you take ~2k damage - restart. You should only be receiving extremely minor chip damage from the projectiles.
@@Syn202 I've already platinumed the game, the issue I had was that I was using too much ammo because I used miniguns. I wasted too much money on ammo. I got the S rank as soon as I changed weapons
This boss was cool the first few times, but it’s really starting to wear out it’s welcome.
That's just gimmick fights in general in my opinion
1st phase - he always starts with the same arc movement. Stand in front of the arc, cause he will rise up to look straight at you in his next arc. Hit him there.
2nd phase - If the rail cannon is north, assault boost to the west, near the large factory. He will appear to the left of the factory from your perspective. He will do low arcs across the ground. That's your opportunity. Manual aiming works best.
3rd phase - This sucks, cause it seems to be largely RNG. Best bet is manual aiming, and stay airborne at a medium height. Stagger your firing of the dual stun needles, and you might get it in one go (needs two hits). Also, use your radar at the bottom of the screen to keep him in front of you.
Recommend light arm weapons for faster boosting, since you can't damage him more than 33% at a time anyways.
Got it pretty quickly, but the S rank requirements for this mission (as with many missions), suck.

Yup on pc,@@sikstene. I can't imagine suffering through this game on a gamepad.
I find the fast phase 2 to be one of the few times manual aiming is useful, long as you can lead the shot yourself it lets you stop the auto lock on the drones
Pretty tough to do on controller without some form of aim assist

That phase 2 opening immediately really helped me out. Thanks for the video, made sure to manual aim because the drones did mess me up a couple times.
When the worm does the side swipe during phase three, stand where the attack ends (about 160 degrees to the left). If you do this, you can stagger your two needle shots (about 1 second apart) and take his shields down in one attack.
Also, it seems time>damage, so having a high mobility AC is preferable in order to be in position for the phase 1 and 2 cheese.

For anyone trying to find the spot to get the quick phase 1 - just follow Chatty (AC with the tank legs) from the start and stop to its left before it reverses direction.

3:24 You can actually hit him when he does that coral explosion at the start of his final phase. You have to fire from outside of lock on range but you actually can hit his face if you eyeball it.

I was really struggling to S-Rank this one, one of the last ones for me, thank you for showing the spots where he will show up for easy hits!!! Just finally cleared it, another tip I saw was to use the pile bunker for punish, so you save on ammunition costs.
I've been trying to go for platinum. I just started playing this game a couple days back because I wasn't really into the armored core games and I never played an armored core game before. But now that I am done with my 2nd playthrough I have been trying to s rank all missions but with all the nerfs the weapons in the videos have major cooldowns and delays to them now and they aren't as good anymore because it causes your ac to be still for what feels like a couple seconds. So the games definitely a bit more difficult now with all the nerfs

thanks for the video it really help. my own tips for future s rankers. manual aim for the 2nd shot to avoid locking on drones. also use pulse armor, the 1st charge right before the 2nd shot so you dont have to worry about drone damage and the 2nd charge for the 3rd phase so you can just think about only lining up a shot and not getting damage.

this boss has been the hardest for me thus far in this game. I can't seem to dodge anything at all no matter what I do. also have a tanky build
This is crazy because this was, by far, the easiest boss. I was literally dreading bosses and pretty much after the spider I haven't died much at all. I still have nightmares about the Sea Spider. I don't think I could beat it again LOL.
try lighter builds if you want to dodge, or get a thruster suited for dodging

It seems the cutt-off for repair is about 10k. Had a really good run in 4 minutes but 11k repair and A rank. DId a 6 minutes run with 4k repair; S rank.
is all about that rng in 3º phase and good luck to land 2 hits fast enough, and try to avoid damage ofc...
I finally get a S after many attemps geting 1 big hit for 3k damage and failing just 1 of the shots in 3º phase, still get an S rank.
I didn't have that much trouble S ranking Ice worm. Maybe I'm just stupid, bit it feels pretty lenient compared to some of the earlier mission S ranks. I can take a fairly significant amount of damage and miss several needle shots and get the S rank. Only real issue is timing, as the worm can sometimes be in a stupid position that I can't take advantage of when it leaves itself open, then will switch to the more erratic and difficult behaviours.

got S rank with 2000/11220 AP and no repair kit used. time is really important here.

i think it is always the same for every mission... Finish super fast, take close to no damage.
Just S ranked this. Speed isn't enough. It appears you have to limit your repair costs to less than 10k.
Soo your allies are always gonna fall in this mission I take it.
Chatty can survive until the end if you're quick enough, but the phase three explosion usually drops Snail and I think it always drops Iguazu (never seen him survive it personally)

I used the tank build my first time I might use my melee build with the needle launcher aka my boss killer took Ayre out with that

Sucky slow ass mission that is total RNG garbage and waiting around doing nothing. Trash mission to S rank, like so many in the game unfortunately.
In case you're wondering why you keep getting an A, it's most likely your repair costs. Keep repair costs under 10,000 (what an awesome arbitrary requirement that is mentioned nowhere in the game). It's less about the time and more about damage taken. It's best to use a reverse joint AC with a good quick boost. Use quick boost for the homing missiles when they get near you, and jump high into the air when the ground missiles come.

S rank needs speed which is opposite of what you want without the needler
This guide is absolutely useless.
This build helped, had to do it a few times to get the timing right, and you have to utilize the sh*t out if yiur dodges to conserve AP and your placement around the ice field 💯be as fast as possible and don't waste an opening, i found if i missed my opportunity to break his shield too many times it was automatically an A rank each phase should be consecutive 💪
