- The whole Cutter Gauthier situation is getting out of hand now. Some Flyers fans dropped to a new low. As they made shirts, signs, and paid for tickets to boo and throw things on the ice at a Boston College hockey game all because a 19 year old wanted to make a decision that he felt was best for his career.
I breakdown all the Anaheim Ducks/ Philadelphia Flyers trade situation drama involving Jamie Drysdale and Cutter Gauthier in this video.
0:32 - It's happened before...
2:22 - "Protect the Kid"
5:46 - Fair Trade

This was just a messy and sad situation. I don’t believe the Flyers management went on a “smear campaign” though. They promised full transparency when they came on board. Remember Cutter was to be a huge piece of the future so when this happened it made sense to try and get the word out and let the fans know what happened and why. The trade was a complete shock. It needed explanation. It didn’t help it was during an actual game where passions were elevated. Cutter made the best decision for him. That’s his right. Flyers fans are certainly in their right to Boo the player but of course any threats or anything past that is wrong and those people need to find some help. There’s no place for that anywhere.
Messy is a good way to word it. Maybe smear wasn't the right word, but it just seemed a little much. But like you said, I guess that was because of the game about to be going on.
I'm a Flyers fan, saw this pop up on the page and was about to come in and more or less say the exact same thing. 👍
And for the record I absolutely will be booing Quitter Gauthier for the rest of his career lol. But threats and violence like this have no place in this sport.
The Philadelphia fans are one of the worst in any sports where there is baseball hockey football. I will never in the million years go back to Philadelphia.
Passionate for sure lol
Yeah... no.
Death threats rlly. Society is getting worse and worse by the day. 😢 He sounds like a nice guy rlly.
Crazy stuff
@@duckmylife I dose genuinely sound like a cool guy to hang with. I rlly hate society ( minus the people who play hockey and my fitness and some youtubers like you)
It’s a Philly thing if you watch the nba you should’ve seen how they derailed Ben Simmons young career because of a mistake he made during a playoff game it’s sad
Simmons sucks bruh 😂😂
Mistake? He took whole series’s off and felt like he earned something lol
Sending him death threats and throwing stuff on the ice screwing up the game for everyone else there. What a bunch of scumbags, let the kids play.
They have a right to be mad, but they went way too far.
Let’s just be careful we don’t judge a city of millions by the actions of what was a handful of people. It’s the age of the internet- stupid people are doing to do stupid things, like send death threats. They don’t represent what Philadelphia is about. If you disagree, we could make an argument that Harvey Weinstein is what California is all about. But that would be ignorant, so let’s just agree that SOME idiots did this- not Flyers fans at large. We can’t judge an entire population by a few of their worst specimen.
So I hear Corey Perry is eligible for signing and Verbeek is looking for goal scorers. 👀
That would just make too much sense. Plus the duck organization is saving money, not spending any.
I want him!
Philly is the original TRASHville
👀
Duck fans need to remember that hockey in Philly was essentially dead. Last year the Flyers couldn't even give tickets away. On sports radio Flyers talk was reserved from 8am-10am on Sat mornings. In my 35 years as fan I have never seen anything that has united the Flyers fan base like this. As for Cutter, I think he is 50 goal scorer at NHL level. As for Flyers front office, they may have saved the franchise by putting Gutter on blast thru media. You might not agree with how Danny Briere & Keith Jones went about putting everything out there but from marketing perspective it was pure genius.
It definitely united the fans together, so looking forward to the next battle.
There's no rallying cry in Philly quite like that of a common enemy.
And the behavior of this small sample of fans is reprehensible. I will be calling him Quitter Gauthier for the rest of his NHL career, and will be booing him whenever I have the chance. But these guys took it way too far.
As a flyers fan I was watching BC games and looking forward to seeing him as a flyer. Cutter was ridiculous in the way he handled things. Still it is just sports man. People that are going to BC to boo and the dude at the end who said he made it is mission to boo him when he comes to Philly are crazy. I don't understand how people can dedicate that much time and effort to these things. Also Drysdale has been a great defenseman
Yea, I don't mind the booing. He did yall dirty. He deserves some hate. I miss Jimmy 😢
They got Drysdale and a 2nd round pick for him. It's not like he left them with nothing. When Drysdale becomes a star they will quit whining.
Jamie looking real good!
Sounds like they're whining right now.
Sounds like a Philly thing. No wonder he wanted out
Easy living in SoCal
This basically answers everyone's question on why he didn't want to play for the Flyers. Philly fans are among the worst in any sport and this proves it.
Passionate for sure 😅
Yeah... no.
man i love hockey but sports fans are some of the most immature people I have ever seen
It's true sadly.
💯
Great reason for athletes to avoid Philly.
Just shows they are passionate 😅
Grown me are threatening a teenagers they need to cool
💯
Philly's fans don't realise that the more they act like toddlers, the less the "big players" will want to play in their team. If I were a top pick, why would I want to go to Philadelphia, if their fanbase is so toxic to threaten kids?
It just a small section of the game base. But yea not a good look.
If Matvei Michkov sees all this and change his mind about the Flyers, it will be so fun... 😂😂
😬
Cutter doesn't owe anyone anything. He has the right not to agree to a contract and the right to request for a trade. I can understand the fans acting like that but those upper management and coaches... Come on man.... It's kinda like when ohtani didn't get traded at deadline and was slow to sign with Dodgers, every other fans like oh he's missing out yada yada yada.
Don't bring Ohtani into this 😭
@@duckmylife lol ok my bad.
Great video. Great editing . Great thumbnail.
Thank you!
The ghosting thing is nonsense, he made his intentions clear to them and there was nothing left to say after that. That's why they were able to go out and flip him for a potential top pairing d-man.
Yea, I guess that's true, but he should have still handled it better. Of course, we don't know what really happened.
Ghosting is simply an unprofessional thing to do. We're not talking about a falling out between two friends, we're talking about a professional athlete and the organization that drafted him.
Some Philly fans are Sick...I have two words ERIC LINDROS
What about Lindros? He didn’t want to play for Quebec so flyers traded for him…How tf does that reflect badly on Philly? Just…stfu imbecile😂😂😂
Lindros was different, but Karma lol
@@duckmylifeKarma!?!? …. So, you’re saying Flyers gonna go on to win Cups like Quebec/Colorado did? Flyers fans will take that… lmfao.
No wonder he didn’t want to
Play in Philly, the fans are animals in the worst way
Passionate for sure lol
Just look at the way the two cities have handled this situation. Ducks fans appreciated Jamie and wish him the best of luck in Philly, Philly gumbas are acting like bitter a scorned lover. Classless. As a hockey fan it would be nice to see fans in all cities act with dignity and class and support the sport we all love. This isn't the way to do it Philly. You dont know Cutters reasons for not playing there, only he does. Lots of players in the league have no trade clauses to specific cities, why should he be singled out for essentially the same thing? It's ridiculous. Grow up Flyers fans. You got a great player in return. Remember too, that Cutter is 19 years old, for God's sakes let the kid come into the league without blungeoning him with your juvenile accusations of disloyalty. The way you're acting just confirms that he made the right decision. Oh yeah, remember, Lindros didnt want to play for Quebec, and look how that turned out? Silence? Thought so.
Tough situation, but it looks like it gonna work out for both sides.
Bunch of grown ups at the flyers organization...
🫠
Traveling to Boston to boo Cutter is in character for Philly fans, who are the most classless in the country. I will never forget when 76ers fans loudly cheered the announcement that Tiny Archibald's injury would keep him out of the rest of the 1982 playoff series with the Celtics. And their antics booing and throwing batteries at Santa Claus at Eagles games are legendary. Glad the Eagles got blown out of the playoffs last night and the Phillies didn't win the World Series last year. That fanbase doesn't deserve any happiness, although I do hope the Flyers make the playoffs because of Drysdale.
They are passionate for sure 😅 Wishing the best for Jimmy 🥹
As a Flyers fan, let me reply to your comment. First off the actions of a few idiots DO NOT represent the majority of Phila sports fans. Those individuals who've sent death threats and travel to harass Cutter, are dickheads, period!
Some (not many) people act without any sense of accountability whatsoever. They believe they can remotely say, and sometimes do, things that are just wrong. To your point- it helps prove why it was a good idea for Cutter to go to LA. Some people...
🫠
I wouldnt use this as any kind of judgment of character. If you have the skills to decide where you want to work then by all means. Im a blue collar worker and if a different employer came my way with a great opportunity Im gone.
Fair point. We also don't know what was happening behind the scenes. Lots of unknowns.
@@duckmylife absolutely true, also Philly sports teams also have a long history of being difficult to play for tons of athletes in all professional sports have had horror stories of the toxic fandom there. Add in the fact that he grew up a Pens fan, personally if I was him I would have been aware of any and all red flags.
Justin Schultz was the outlier. Henry Thrun was gracious enough to give GMPVB the heads up so he could deal him out prior to the deadline. But yeah, the whole Gauthier situation gives players every reason why they shouldn't be playing in Philly.
💯
Still willing to boo Schultz 😅 Thrun, it’s disappointing but because he said something in advance to the team, there’s no ill will there.
WTH. Is this for resl
Yep 🤦🏼♀️
Hey. They can bitch and Moan all they want at least we don’t live in Philly. Lol
This just ridiculous. Edit because of spelling mistake
It’s stupid all because he wants to be with the ducks and people are mad like wth
Crazy stuff, but he'll overcome.
Honestly it seems like it's starting to slow down a little. It will be bad when we visit Philly though.
Yea, most of this vid was recorded a couple days ago. I just didn't have time to edit it. It's better now, but it will pick up again when he makes the nhl.
Is it too early to wonder what number he will wear, 53?
That would be a good guess, or maybe he gets to pick his number right out the gate? Leo did eventually.
What actually happened was:
Cutter locked eyes with Gritty and Gritty said...
"It's Cuuuuuutterrrr time"
Cutter then found the farthest NHL team from Philly and booked a one way ticket outta there. Gritty now lives rent free in Cutter's head.
😂 True story
First its cutter, now it’s hart 😭
Don't even put Cutter in the same sentence as Hart...totally different situations.
Cutter living rent free in philly fans head
Forever haha
not true. the real philly fans only talkin bout drysdale and the standings right now
Philly fans doing Philly fan stuff.
Just hope he has a good career as a Duck!
👏
kid listen, if you think it's a good idea to shaft an entire organization who drafted you, and not be at least transparent in public but hide behind mommy and daddy, NOT SPEAK to JOHN LECLAIR and PATRICK SHARP (you okay with this?), that's the type of player you want, you can have that player. But fans can do as the want as well, if they want to boo the fuck outta him they have every right to boo him. We are a sports city; I know you don't know what that is like and you never will, but we bleed sports. Say what you want about that but that how it is. We are cutthroat and we don't care if you don't like us. If you think what happened at a college game is bad, just wait till he enters wells fargo (if he shows up). He had his right to request the trade no denying that, but he has to live with the consequences that come with that, the stigma of disrespect he provided by not speaking to legendary NHL players. Death threats arent cool, and aren't real fans but boos and showing up to college hockey games that isn't any problem that the player didn't bring to himself (dont throw shit on the ice either I can' agree with those fans).
Have you considered crying about it more?
@@LivingNed thoughtful take, and nah my team is second in the toughest division
In hockey and yours is in purgatory
Appreciate the passion, but there are levels to it.
@@duckmylife yes their are levels, their is Philadelphia and their is Anaheim. It’s not even close when it comes to passion.
Are you comparing a 43rd pick to a 5th pick??
Yep. Obviously, there is more investment in a 5th overall pick, but it's the same story at the end of the day.
Philadelphia's doing good right now, Anaheim is not.
Sad truth
Empty Netters are the GOATs
🔥
The more Jamie plays for the Flyers, the more it looks like they won the trade. Hopefully it pans out for us, till then....for real Philly fans, cry Eagles, cry!!!
Hard not to feel that way when they get a player on ice right away. We won't know, probably like for 5 years who won.
19 year olds don’t have any right to dictate the course of a franchise. They enter the draft and understand it isn’t their choice who picks them. If he didn’t want to play in Philly you don’t tell the franchise you were “built to be a Flyer”. Act like the pro you claim you want to be and talk to them and figure out what will make it work. Ghosting the team that thought that much of you to take you 5th overall makes you look like an amateur……oh right that’s exactly what he is. He clearly thinks a lot of himself but he is no Matthews or Lindros. He is not a generational player. He has the potential to be a very good NHL level player someday. To the fans in Philly….every town has rabid fans so yeah it’s unfortunate some act silly but that’s all it is. Look at the Flyer front office there is a reason all those former players are still in Philly and will always stay in Philly. It is a great place to be a pro athlete better than most. Anaheim California is no hockey town so enjoy the outrageous cost of living and the casual hockey fan. Other than that it doesn’t appear the Flyers did anything wrong so get lost son.
😎
Sorry but that's bs. Cutter refused to meet or even talk to the Flyers after he accepted their offer. He slapped every Flyer and their fans in their faces for no reason. That's bad on him.
Yes, but death aren't ok.
You flyers fans are sensitive Jesus get over it
Passionate for sure lol
I understand their frustration. If a team drafts you, you should play for them. He got picked 5th overall and disrespected the franchise with his choice. Why did he not want to play in Philly? Millions of kids would give their nuts to be drafted , let alone first round
I do get the frustration, too. Wish we knew, but we don't.
Let me flip the script, why didn’t Philly want Cutter to play after his last college season if they liked him so much?
@@2744ducksdman he’s a sophomore in college 🤨 what are you even talking about?
@@iceKOId I’m talking last as in the college season before this one. He wanted to sign and go pro. Philly told him that they didn’t want to go over the cap due to bonuses so they’ll let him play college for another year.
Jamie Drysdale was part of Anaheims future as well
He became expendable so
He was, but Minty emerged.
@@duckmylife i just usually notice that lots of the Stanley Cup winners have a recent Anaheim Duck on the team that's why haha
Respectfully, this take is not as strong a condemnation as you seem to think. Flyers fans SHOULD be frustrated by the situation, they were publicly thrown to the side, rejected in a way any fan would take offense to. People bought jerseys, followed his production, and cheered for his success. He couldn't even do them the common courtesy of communicating why he came to this conclusion, he just dipped the fuck out. I am sorry, that is just unprofessional. Whatever it is, just come out with it... otherwise, a lot of ppl will assume the worst, that he is an entitled brat of an athlete - which is objectively what it seems like.
I'm not trying to justify any death threats or inappropriate conduct, but shaming sports fans for making shirts/signs clowning this kid is a massive L. Nobody knows what really happened here. Respectfully to Cutter, if every rookie decided to carry themselves the way he did, the entire system would fall apart. I think more information needs to come out for anyone to have convictions as strong as you had in this video. There is a good chance the Philly fans are right, and the kid is as entitled as he seems.
They have every right to be mad. Not giving his reason was unprofessional, but no reason to wish death on a kid. It's a tough situation that we don't know the full story on, but it looks like it gonna work out for both sides.
Who buys a jersey before the kid even gets a number? ridiculous.
@@LivingNed I bought my Scottie Barnes #11 Montverde Academy jersey on draft night. Some people care more than you do.
@@duckmylife If they have every right to be mad, and Cutter acted unprofessionally, what's with the tone of the video? Obviously noone in their right mind is going to defend throwing shit on the ice at his BCU games or the straight up losers sending him death threats - why are you lumping anything else in with that? Fans expressing their frustration is absolutely fine if they are are doing it in a healthy, traditional manner that has been accepted at every sporting event throughout all of history - obnoxious signs/shirts. Why are you accusing the Flyers organization of going on a "smear campaign" if you agree with the sentiment of their frustrations? Why are you acting like the organization making it clear they wanted Cutter to be a Flyer is a bad thing at all? Is there a way they could have handled it that you would not have criticized?
It just feels like you came into this story with your mind made up, and you looked at the facts through the lens of your own bias. You can do that... but it's not very interesting commentary.
This is why I didn’t want him. Even if he is amazing he made a lot of enemies the way he handled Flyers.
We'll no likes the Ducks already, so he fits right in!
90% of the hate he's gettin is over the line and I'm glad we got him buuuuuuuuuuttttttt he needs to say something direct about why he would not sign w them. Almost nothing he says could be worse then saying nothing at this point. Ghosting them is garbage if true which it sounds exactly correct. Winning cures all but yeah you have to be alittle leary bout his maturity, "this generation" excuse or not. Go DUCKS
Yeah, it's not a good excuse. Hoping he'll be upfront eventually, but either way, Go Ducks!
Facts are important. He reportedly stopped talking to the Flyers org just a few months after being drafted. He didn’t “give them a year to figure it out” or a “chance” of any kind. And what power, exactly, does a 19-year-old kid without a contract have on the org anyway? He can decide where he wants to play, but that’s about it. The Flyers had to disclose what happened and did so honestly without burying Cutter. Torts was asked about Cutter and was annoyed- he doesn’t even play for the Flyers. In his position, many would be frustrated talking about a non-player. Cutter reportedly wouldn’t even speak with them, including HOF American John LeClair. Your coverage of this is extremely biased. You insinuated the Flyers did something “wrong” here; they didn’t. In fact, I guess neither did Cutter. We don’t have to like it from either side, but they both exercised their rights as an org and as a person. You had an axe to grind against the Flyers and you did so. Congrats.
This is the Flyers GM. What about this is a smear campaign?
ua-cam.com/users/shortsCEBuTOj94c8?si=_KJEj3kS2rpjZd5B
Ok so I over exaggerated, but it was still 6 to 7 months after he had already attended dev camp. He also made his intentions clear before ghosting them, but yes he shouldn't have done that. He hasn't earned anything yet. Smear wasn't the right word to use, but from the outside looking in every single person in management said something. That seems a little excessive. They made the best they could out of tough situation.
@@duckmylife about the management- Philadelphia has a strong fan base and the media will ask everyone they can. It’s a sports town that wants to know everything they can. We even have two sports radio stations that cover sports all day, all year. I need to say that to set the vibe- when a big story breaks, there will be many questions from all angles. The Flyers staff earned respect with their transparency with the media and fanbase. They still protected Gauthier for what seems to be many months, only breaking silence when the ordeal was over. I honestly believe they handled the whole situation with class and honesty, even if that honesty bruised some egos or was truthfully, factually harsh. Sometimes the truth hurts.
He signed and says “I’m built to be a flyer” on draft day then changes his mind? And he ghosted the entire organization for months when they planned on him being a huge part of their future… so yeah, he gets what he deserves
He didn't ghost them, he directly told them his intentions then Philly got butthurt and tried a bunch of times to change his mind after he had already told them to fuck off.
He did ghost them which was wrong, but only after he told them they didn't want to sign with them.
Great video and agree on the Philly take. It's easy to "protect the kid" when it benefits your org. As soon as they got what they want the narrative changed completely. I am a little concerned with the character issue element, but it seems like he is well-liked by his teammates and coaches. Time will tell, but as long as he plays hard it's a great move
The Flyers brass kept quiet to protect their trade value, and they should be thanking him for keeping quiet instead of trashing him.
Thank you
Thanks for this vid but any1 with a liking for hockey who has an open mind see's bullying in comments on an almost weekly basis! eg/ Bedard's too small & his mum's dirt?? all that chat was evil bullying & another eg? Canucks fans all putting the hatchet into Tyler myer's in large #s for wks!! Gauthier needs to ride it out cos these troll's quickly find some1 else to hate on. Good luck to the kid & hopefully he comes out stronger.
Yea, it's part of the career choice, but death threats are too far.
You see death threats on a weekly basis? I sure don't.
Your wrong about Philly, they just spoke the truth and if people can't handle the truth that he didn't want to play for the Flyers then that's there problem!
Well, obviously, he didn't want to play for them. He asked for a trade.
Obviously these fans don’t speak for the entire fan base and it’s sad to see this. This doesn’t excuse Cutters immature behavior when ignoring and ghosting an organization ands not giving reasons. That’s fine if he made a decision that’s best for him but he was not professional about it.
Yep, it's just some rotten apples. What did Cutter was unprofessional. Hopefully, he gets some wise people around him cause the people currently didn't help.
Tbh I don’t like Cutter because he seems very problematic and I feel that will spill over to the Ducks. I miss Drysdale!! :( I 100% understand the Flyers’ anger and they have the right to speak. However, people shouldn’t go throwing stuff. Ugh 😤
I miss Jimmy too, but we won't know for a few if this trade worked out.
I have zero respect for this kid. Death threats might be a tad overboard, but the kids a dick for not playing for the team that drafted him.
No problem with the booing. He did ghost them after making his intentions clear, so Flyers fans should be mad.
No wonder why he didnt want to go to philly lol they really mad about this its hilarious
Passionate for sure 😅
He literally didn’t want to be a Flyer. The Flyers needed to explain the trade. They explained it. I wouldn’t call that a smear campaign. If someone within the Flyers organization attacked him personally, called him selfish, immature, etc, then ok I’d agree with you.
Idk it's just that every time I saw someone from the Flyers organization talking, it was bashing Cutter. So maybe smear wasn't the right word, but it wasn't nice, lol.
@@duckmylifeHaha, I’m going to disagree again, they didn’t bash him either, in my opinion, they just stated that he didn’t want to be there. I did find it to be overkill though. Briere and Jones should have made their statements and let everyone else just stay quiet. It’s also odd to me that Gauthier hasn’t stated his specific reasons and it may be a long while before we find out.
@@duckmylifemaybe he shouldn’t ghost guys like LeClair and Sharp when he hasn’t accomplished shit in the league yet…
@@techjunkie1815 Maybe they shouldn't show up to a game to pressure him when he's trying to focus on playing. Poor form from those vets and they should know better.
The fact of the matter is that Philly fans DO NOT condone or want people to send death threats. To be honest I think we all know people like that exist on the internet. lol ppl act like ALL Philly fans cross the line. it's called generalizing, and people do it to philly fans all the time lmao. It isnt fair to start a narrative and associate a couple lunatics with the rest of a city / fan base. Athletes and celebrities deal with crazy fans / messages all the time. The evidence is all there in the messages themselves and who delivered them. You have the evidence, so if you're worried then do something about it. It's 2024 and this is the internet, are we surprised a couple f-ed up ppl sent him terrible message? no. Still doesnt condone his professionalism and how he treated a 1st class NHL org like the Flyers. They did him such a SOLID accommodating to his request and keeping it on the low so the trade value stayed at the right price.
Philadelphia is a city that is hungry for hockey, and we have been ass for SO long. When one of our top 2 picks wants out, fine... but handle yourself in a manner where you go to the management themselves (Briere / Jones) and tell them what you want. Dont have your agent and college coach be doing the talking for you. The Flyers are better off anyway in my opinion. Yes, I am a Flyers fan and I do not condone or promote the idea of player death threats, but that kid is unprofessional and has a character issue. He wanted to burn a deal of his ELC so he could get paid quicker.... didnt like that he had to earn his spot on the team if he joined last szn (mid transition)
I know it's not the whole fan base. That's why I said some flyers, fans. This seems to have united Flyers fans everywhere, so keep the passion going.
