@@reploid123 Agreed. The early BA videos were quite stiff and formal as everyone was new to the video format. I think the same is true with the new people. They may be talented chefs but I wonder how much time they've spent in front of the camera where they need to let their personality shine to help bring in the audience.

Yay for Marxist bullying! New rules fly in and change everything by ridicule and public shaming. Isn’t it wonderful?! Nobody can feel comfortable in their skin ... always having to gravel and make amends to the hidden overlords who set the narrative. Nobody can keep up as the new moral norms change so erratically and at such lightning speed. Everyone goes by the wayside at some point. Nothing is ever like it used to be. The people go along with the idea of a superior way of living snd thinking, but eventually long for the simpler, happier and more freely individualistic times; times where one wasn’t enslaved to the collective nature of a society built on cancellation and eradication of liberty.
I wouldnt blame this on BA just yet. The "old" BA was fun because the crew had history and developed together. If you look at the OG BA videos, it's just as bleak and bland but over time it became the BA we love.
Literally this time period for BA makes me feel nostolgic but uncomfortable at the same time,,, I feel like I want to love the new crew but I keep going back to the old videos

I can't even bring myself to love the new crew as I have no idea who is actually going to stick around, if any. Each person has three episodes they are going to film so there's 24 total (8 new people) before BA needs to decide if they want to keep any of these new people around as part of the staff (assuming their even interested in being a regular part of the BA UA-cam channel.)
I think if the editing had been a bit choppier, I would have loved their chemistry so much more. They're clearly great friends, and trying to film something cooperative while socially distancing will always come across weird BUT that could be massively helped by editing imo :)
Sometimes I wonder what the point of social distancing is when you're touching each other's food.
@@nekosama8831 I don't think touching food is so bad as long as you make sure to wash and disinfect your hands regularly (like Andy did). It's the physical distance for me, looks like a weird private cooking class but the student isn't allowed to help or cook along :D
They are so calculated with what they say and it sounds stiff. It makes me feel uncomfortable.

I'm sure everyone involved is lovely, and I can't speak for anyone else, but I was watching BA because of the people, not the format.

i didnt find this video awkward at all I actually love their dynamic. whoever is saying this makes them uncomfortable is obviously uncomfortable with their own sexuality. two lgbtq men can be friends the same way two hetero men and women can be. This is the first video since the stopping of production I've seen actual authenticity and genuine interaction between cast members. -a long time fan

At the beginning of the pandemic the BA videos with Claire, Carla, Brad were great and got me through a tough time. These videos are tough to watch. I agree the format and editing of those videos were wonderful. Please rethink your new format.
Idk why I bother checking up on BA anymore... perhaps some far off hope they will return to some form of norm... instead it's like watching the physical embodiment of tension and awkwardness.

Before the end of the BA era, I never got bored and never got enough even it’s a 40, 50 minutes video, but now? Keep it 3-minute, it’s boring. (I come back to read comments.)
People are saying this is "awkward", these guys KNEW each other for years. If there's awkwardness it's related to the Covid concerns, and DeVonn getting used to being on camera.
The only awkwardness for me , was cuz I didn’t focus on the recipe at all . They shouldn’t be allowed to have that much hot in the same room like that .
And the editing. It's not bad per se, it just misses the autenticity we were used to.

@@SoBek49 I think that’s it. It feels like a show you’d see on a food channel on TV or something. I think everyone is used to the BA format where they’re talking to viewers, so when they do this kind of style it feel reality-tv-esque. The background music is also giving me that vibe.
That being said, I don’t think it feels fake either. Just different.

Its not just the editing. We are in a pandemic, closeness isn't that easy to convey if everything needs to be hygienic.

I loveeee Persimmon. They are in season right now as well, so it's the perfect time for people to try it if you haven't before. Personally, I don't think it smells at all but maybe it depends on what type of Persimmon you get.
The persimmons we have in Arkansas are the best when they’ve fallen on the ground and shriveled up a little and turned somewhat dark. It becomes like pumpkin in texture and very sweet. I’ve never seen anybody eat a persimmon that was firm like they said. But what do I know. I don’t even wear shoes.

@Jenay Bon glad you asked. I haven’t seen anything wrong with the new format. People just seem to be complaining when the chefs are black. Check the ratio of likes and dislikes. So much hypocrisy hiding behind concern for POC. Many of them want revenge for Sohla but not for other POCs to have opportunities

Buzzfeed - a channel that always has new people - has never figured out they need to mix in the new people so it isn't an abrupt change.
BA I love the content, dynamic and chefs. Please fix the editing. I'm not holding Adams's actions against you and open to change, but the edit is something I am not here for.
All that aside, Andy and DeVonn are fire, and I am really excited to see more of DeVonn.
Conde Nast was the one handing out video shows and contracts, not Adam.

I don't understand what happened with BA on UA-cam. I understand the problem of the big studio kitchen in times of Covid, but just send Brad, a producer and a camera person somewhere in the woods and let them cook anything, like good old "It's Alive!" times. You would have easy views and likes.

What was so fun about the cast interactions was all of the in jokes. And the old cast were really good friends which worked super well on camera.
I think this is just part of an awkward transitional time where the new cast need time to form bonds with the old cast. And I don't think the editors have quite captured the editing that we knew and loved. The edit makes things so... awkward at the moment. Moments of silence where all you can hear is the scraping of the pan. The editing was so tight with the older shows.
Its always going to be awkward, because of the lingering knowledge of what happened to the old cast and why things changed. (Not to mention the horribly slow reaction by the BA higher ups) but give it a year or two and the videos will get better.
But these guys are already good friends so that doesn’t really explain the awkwardness here
@@lilsebastian1458 Yah for sure - and given what Sohla and others have written, I'm not sure the previous BA folks really *were* good friends. I suspect the illusion has just been shattered and everything will feel different and sad now.

Lol during covid 19 a big scandal hit BA. THEY WEREN'T PAYING PEOPLE FAIRLY OR EQUALLY. Its about race and representation and views and money. Some people quit. There are new people. Lots of colored folk 😬. Clair is gone and ppl are MAD!! Some ppl have stayed. The subscribers feel betrayed.

I don't mind the crew change. I understand why they have gone all in on diversity. I'm actually glad they have made this effort. There is something missing with these new videos. Something with the energy. Maybe as they spend more and more time in front of the camera and with each other, this new team will find their energy. I'll check back in a few months.
Also, I miss Gourmet Makes....I don't even know if she left Bon Appetit. She and Brad were my favorites.

Is it me or are online shows nowadays taking the covid precautions a step too far? It almost looks like a performance for the camera, this wouldn't happen off camera.
If they had a disclaimer in the beginning of the video saying that like, the people on screen are in a "covid pod" then they wouldn't need to do this distancing act on screen.

I just wanna point out how the channel isn’t getting even close to the same amount of viewership as it used to. Used to be 400k for the rare least viewed video. Most would get 700, 800k. Very frequently the more popular series and personalities got 1-5 million.

The production isnt the same as older videos because theyre trying to be safe. The editing here is off compared to older videos but reasonably so
