They aren't the best, true. But if they overload you with features, the complain of "Minecraft isn't Minecraft anymore" will skyrocket, like it already has been lately..
The features Mojang add, are not like that of Mods, because while mods are optional the feature by Mojang aren't optional.
Obviously, Mojang can do better with more communication with the playerbase and all, but, at the end of the day, they are also just a game developing company..

The frog lost the mob vote to the goat and we still got frogs, they need to just make it an approval vote instead
The Rascal didn't just give you an Iron pickaxe, Mojang said that it would give you a reward. Not necessarily a boring iron pickaxe, it could have been diamonds.
That said, I am surprised by how much votes the Rascal got. I'm not saying that it's badly designed but the online community was obviously deciding between the Tuff golem and the Sniffer (the sniffer being the obvious majority option) and the Rascal not being talked about as much. This goes to show that there is a large but silent community of casual players that are probably not in the loop when it comes to minecraft content creator conversations.
It just depended on who you watched or what majority group your on, for myself and probably for others, I didn't see much of a fight for the tuff golem, it was mainly just Sniffer and Rascal, I'm sure that it just depends who or what part of the community your on.
Yeah…the majority of gamers don’t care about social media, and aren’t concerned with the “pro elite speed-running lit hype” side of gaming, and they just like what they like. I hate how everything is becoming so intertwined with social media.
It just depends where you look. My entire friend group wanted the rascal because it was a brilliant concept, and honestly Matpat really made it look horrible

They've had favoritism in the mob votes for awhile now. I remember that the iceolliger (idk how to spell it) was heavily hinted towards as the best mob, even though it ended up losing.

Mooblooms are better since they would’ve added more life to the game. Glowsquids are just boring. I can live without glowing item frames and signs.

I actually think all mobs are related too archeology, the sniffer was extinct, the rascal is a miner with treasure given once you searched for him, and the tuff golem who is a perfect display tool for your archeological finds.
Imagine setting up a museum with books on front of it and the golem is holding said found item thatd be epic
Now that I think about it, the rascal is literally the lost miner from Primitive Mobs. A mod from 9 years ago.

I've never seen a reason they couldn't add all three. They clearly have the resources for it.

They actually dont. Theres ALOT of work that goes into coding them and releasing other parts of the update along with the mob. Not to mention having to bug fix things, implement them on multiple platforms and so on.
Caves and Cliffs is a perfect example of biting way more than one can chew.

Minecraft already has lots of game mechanics, a lot of which aren't often used regularly . Adding all 3 would just increase the number of these obscure mechanics, making the game feel clustered and messy.

I honestly wouldn't be too surprised. I kinda lost my trust in Mojang after they added that stupid Chat Report Feature and canceled the Fireflies and Birch Forest for pretty dumb reasons and completely ignored the communities' opinions for like almost the rest of the year.

The thing I'll never forgive is the community picking a glowing squid
I mean they could easily have added archeology either all 3 mobs. The sniffer is an archaic animal, but the rascal could have easily handed a handful of pot shards. Or the golem grows those shards somehow so if you don't groom them, they won't move and become overgrown with different, new lore.
Then the sniffer and the ancient seeds ended up being useless...

Basically they added loads of interesting ideas and features to the sniffer, as they wanted it to win because it would fit well with the archaeology update they had been planning for so long.

Imo, they should have added the sniffer to the update, not having to be chosen (like the frogs), and have 3 misc mobs (tuff, the other one, and the third one) that either pertained a hit to the update or not at all and have them be their own thing (like phantoms)

The rascal wasn't lame. It could give you lots of new useful items and it was Much better than the sniffer. The sniffer litterally gives you some new useless plants (mojang even CONFIRMED that these plants were going to be useless)

Trails and Tales. I think any of the 3 could have worked for Archeology. The Rascal is another part of the Trails to get exploration of mines, which could have been updated the way desert temples, wells and villages are being now (no one knew for sure). The Tuff Golem would have been another part of the "Tales" portion like the pottery shard - maybe being shoved into Jungle temples or something too. The real "rigging" was that the Sniffer brought a *New Plant* with it, guaranteed - no speculation. I think they just ended up rigging the Sniffer because they didn't want to reveal Archeology as part of the next update yet and saying more about the Rascal or Golem would've done that. But the Sniffer's seed digging was far enough away from it that they let that go and BAM! Sniffer wins.

I still will never forgive the person who decided to put Phantoms as one of the choices for a mob to be added.
The Rascal was not lame, it introduced a fun little minigame for the caves and we don't even know if it was gonna be just an Iron Pickaxe, they tend to change their mind on this kinda stuff really often.
It was an uncertain option, they didn't give us a lot of info about that mob, but we knew more about the Sniffer
But no one is actually gonna say "oh boy! I can't wait to play hide and seek with a no-player entity in order to get something somewhat better than a ruined portal could get me.

It's okay. They just added the boat with a chest and some frogs so we can rest for like 2 years until the next singular mob is released. They are working very hard coding 3 letters a day, so we should give them the space.
Yeah, meanwhile modders might make 5 mobs a day and design tens of blocks in a week. Mojang has atleast tens of coders yet cant match a 16 year old on their computer coding.

@@buriedalive3192 There are modpacks out there that fit the Minecraft vanilla theme and enhance it. Not only that since the latest MC is poorly optimized there are also mods that help alleviate for mid to low systems

@@divinehaven347 name any of these mod-packs? And of course if we’re talking about performance mods, like sodium and OF, that’s a big L on Mojang. They once asked the optifine dev to include the mod in the base game but he disagreed because they wouldn’t include some features like the zoom.
And the cool-down of updates isn’t from the slow developing, their team is just as big and capable as in the earlier 1.15/ 1.16 days. I think the decision making on the smallest changes is taking much too long. Prior to caves and cliffs part 2, a lot of their updates focused on reworking stuff and revisiting blank yet established areas of the game. Now they seem a bit, directionless? They’re covering new ground and considering that they’re one of the biggest games worldwide, and probably one of the most corporate, every decision is risky and carries a lot of weight

I can understand them, I mean there's only one type of squid existing in the entire game for years. But seriously if they're going to make us vote for a squid, atleast brought the previous squid like creature during the phantom mob vote. that squid design is much more cooler than the glow squid.
