@@kovacsandras spawn of possession doesn’t come close either. They seem to focus a lot on speed. Necrophagist’s music uses a lot classical and jazz elements in all their instruments.
@@dbo0729 This is a really delicate subject that involves a lot of factors, like: 1. Hannes is a guy that can, if he wants to, play blasts with full notes on the snare (not ghost notes). I don't think that those sounds good, honestly. I won't deny that ghosts are comfortable for the drummer, i myself would rather show off how controlled i am as a drummer instead of how much stamina i have... But i really think ghost notes sound better, and Marco thinks so too. But there is a scenario (studio recording) where you can hear ghost notes, but here you can't. That brings us to... 2. drum recording -> It's a live setting, which means a lot of noise. The snare get lost in that noise because they're playing on a stage instead of drums only in the recording room. Also, they didn't use any tricks with microphones or samples to fix the problem you mentioned, they made an EXTREMELY human and faithful recording. That is SO VALUABLE in this genre, you can see humans playing faithfully something that humans can barely play. So what i'm saying is, ghost notes are better because of (1). There is a problem with low volume notes on a live setting, yes, but think about how awesome it is to hear a human play this whole song on the accoustic drums with no editing and no triggers, just him and the accoustic drums. It's wonderful!
I can't even imagine how it would be to see this band ...in the same room with tech death gods melting your fucking face whoever has seen them you're so lucky
if chuck shuldiner of death did an album with necrophiagist that would be fuckin intense with Christian munizer for the solos and Muhammad and chuck 3 solos per song omfg
It’s hilarious to me that Marco signed up to do this. It’s as far out of his wheelhouse as I’ve ever seen, and though he nails pretty much everything, you can tell the headroom isn’t there like it normally is for him. Maxing out his tech death skills on this set list for sure lol
First off stillborn one is one of the most ruthless songs ever! Lol I feel the drummer just had too big of shoes to fill! The original recorded drum tracks are absolutely insane! Almost nobody else can play em the same! It's like he could only play maybe 80% of the parts at half speed. still badass to see it live tho
Poor guy has to put more effort into speaking than growling into the mic. Love the solos and the half time sections though - and always have done! I've never been into the sweep guitar stuff outside of Frank Gambale, but Mr. Necrophagist is a master in his own right.
Marco seems to mostly stick to Hannes Grossman's original drum work. Probably some of the toughest stuff he's been asked to learn and play. Oh, we all miss Necrophagist....!
Yeah, but I'm actually surprised he even accepted the gig. I know he's friends with Muhammed to this day, but he was never a tech death metal drummer. So I can't say he's bad at it. I mean, the man played with Buddy Rich's band in the same year for his DVD. So he's pretty versatile. One key aspect of his drumming is that he improvises a lot, which shows here, because he doesn't play the songs note by note. If you watch other performances, you'll see him playing them a bit differently than here too. He also lacks the power Hannes had, because he uses the traditional Finger Control technique, which lacks power at high speeds. Hannes developed a hybrid version of that technique especially so he could add more power. Marco designed slightly bigger drumsticks with Promark for more power when he joined Necro, but they're still very light for this style of music.
