Chance got so big so fast that a lot of people got annoyed.. Acid Rap is awesome. Coloring book is great as well. I also really like Sunday Candy!

tyruss23 I think the issue people have is that it's always happy. He had some edge even tho he was uplifting for the most part on acid rap. It seems he lost the edge. I still think the music is great but he can't do this for the rest of his career as his fanbase gets older they are gonna want some more edge.
I've always seen heavy Kanye influences in him. Kanye had that soulful uplifting music early in his career but it had a sense of maturity to it that chance can develop. He is only 25 after all.
Chris Malinowski I think it's the opposite, I think as people grow older, they want even more optimisim. At least that's what I feel, and what my parents feel.
tyruss23 oh yeah acid rain is phenomenal. That's what I was referring to when I said how the music wasn't always uplifting he had some more layers than that. And yeah kanye is producing a 7 track album for him. My guess is it'll be out sometime in August. I don't think they'll go 808s bold, my guess is college dropout/late registration vibes.

Since you're already aware of Acid Rap's existence, I'd recommend a reaction for the song Cocoa Butter Kisses, which is generally the consensus best song on the album, and perhaps the best in all of Chance's discography (based on my observations anyways.)

St Matteos Oh, absolutely. Going back to that mixtape, it's crazy how it's just completely filled with fantastic songs back to back to back. One of the few projects by an artists where I enjoy virtually every song.

Matt R Yeah I agree, I personally barely have it in top 10 in Chance's entire discography, but I was going off of what I generally saw other fans list as their favorite, and Cocoa Butter Kisses seemed to be the most recurring one.

The paid vacations for murderers line is referring to police shootings in Chicago. There was a kid running away from police a few years ago and was shot 16 times and the cop got paid leave while the trial was going on. Chance and vic mensa were pretty vocal criticizing the mayor for how he handled the situation.

The beat gave me Camron "Oh Boy" vibes the way it sounded. I thought it could have been tweaked a bit to have less repetitiveness or by just having it come in at the hook or transition between verses or into another syllable scheme. But overall it sounded good and Chance said some real shit that helped forego the beat and he had few impressive slick lines in there. Great breakdown on this song from Chance Lost In Vegas.

Bro, shit like this puts a smile on my face. I grew up like everyone on hip hop but then discovered different types of rock and metal. Most people that listen to drake and radio music, won't give metal a try cause its noise. Ac/Dc said it best. "Rock and Roll ain't noise pollution"
Hell yeah! I was ignorant thinking that since i couldn't understand rap, it wasn't for me. I just needed to pay more attention. The beats and grooves and lyrics are good, and the artists are talented. Good music is good music!
Well most rock is secular. Led Zeppelin talked about the occult, The Doors and The Beatles talked about drugs and sex, none of it good for a devout Christian. There are Christian bands that play heavy metal that sounds like Marilyn Manson (August Burns Red, Demon Hunter, POD) so it can't be about the "music". You should read some Manson lyrics before trashing him, he sings about picking yourself up when you've been put down, and not letting the pressure of the world get you down. Contrary to popular belief, he doesn't advocate worshiping the "devil", or killing yourself or others. Don't believe everything you hear about an artist. It is art, and it is expression, there's a nuance to the lyrics. I grew up in the Christian church, I'm still a believer, my mom is a minister, and after learning who Marilyn Manson is as an artists, we both changed our views on his music. Not to mention his live shows are awe inspiring and thought provoking (Like a good sermon on Sunday!) He's no saint! But he and other metal bands are not worth demonizing. Check Mathew 7:1.

Yeah back in acid rap days only good things were said about chance. Then he blew up hard and was everywhere and his music became more positive. And people were annoyed and calling him soft and all kind of crap. But he's such a talented rapper. Hate just comes with success.

In order to fully enjoy the song you need to know all the Chicago shit (mayor, state governor, drama, and criticism from local media outlets) you guys asked about. Most ppl would just ignore it because they don’t know the context, but y’all take it and acknowledge it asking for context I like that.
Lastly, the paid vacations for murderers line references multiple things most notably, police on paid leave after killing citizens (in the manner in which would cause uproar) and Rahm closing schools leaving many youth displaced, which he has previously said would cause nothing but harm to young communities, and kids would turn to violence. So the murderers in that case are not the kids but the politicians. The Chicagoist is damn near a blog, still needing a big story to be a big player. Love from Chicago!
