Great comparison of the 3 different yoga mats. I have personally owned the pro mat for over 10 years and it's still as good as new. Best yoga mat investment I've ever made! I don't think I'll need another mat again!
They don't call it the "Rolls Royce of mats" for nothing! Well at least back in the day that's what they used to call it... but that term hasn't stuck! I've been test-driving a bunch of their newer series mats... but I still come back to the good old PRO and PROlite. :)
What a great comparison. I have two Pro lites (because they keep coming out with fun colors!) but kept wishing I had one pro for home use. This video just saved me $ thank you 😅
I just bought their new Xtra sticky mat. My hands get really sweaty. I have owned the Manduka Pro for 20 years! It has held up through 2 teacher trainings and daily use. Now I'm happy they have the extra sticky one, depending on my practice, I have two to choose from. Years ago I practiced on a yoga rug over my mat . Excited to get Mandukas latest! I would NEVER use a studio mat.
I just bought the Pro Lite because I love my Pro so much! Biggest difference which is important to note is the 2” inch smaller width. I got used to all the extra width of the Pro. I almost like the “give” without it being too squishy the Pro Lite has. Pro is firmer. If Manduka could make the Pro lite in 26 inch width that would be perfect. I ordered the EKO it was to rubbery for my hands.
Yup. I kinda feel like if you’re someone who likes the feel of the PRO mats, you won’t like the eKO (that’s me), and vice versa. Appreciate you watching and commenting! 🙌
Hello! it's 2024 now and i just got the prolite thanks to this video!! i plan to practice at home and at my nearby studio and mostly walk/use public transport so the pro would be wayyyy too heavy 😅 i love my pro lite!!!
I wish you made this video sooner! Would have loved this review when I replaced my mat earlier this year. I ended up getting a Heathyoga which I’m happy with but I’ll definitely get a Manduka next!
I LOVE my Plyopic Ultra Grip Pro Yoga Mat. It's about half the price of the big brands and what's even better is Plyopic also do a Pro+ and a Lite version if you prefer a mat that's thicker or more portable 🙂
Yes!! Love my Manduka mat, I got a foldable one for when I went to Wanderlust a few years back, it's so convenient to take with me when I was traveling too. Definitely can use a thicker one for my Pilates practice too. Great review!
Thanks for your thoughts, Jessica! I'd love to go to Wanderlust one day too... :) I'm not sure the PRO will be good for pilates coz even though it's thicker, it doesn't have much bounce to it - which is what you'd really need for more pilates mat work. I mean, I guess it could work, but some might find it a little too hard still for pilates floor work.
Many thanks, Jaime for this video and your others! I just discovered your channel yesterday when searching for a mat to buy to get started with yoga. I just ordered using your promo code for a EUR 22 discount (yay!) the Pro mat, hand towels, cork blocks, a strap and mat wash. Hopefully that's enough to get me started - next is to work out what to do as an absolute beginner! Look forward to more of your videos! 😊

Thanks for the review Jaime! They use Manduka mats at the retreat centre where I host my groups in Costa Rica and they are SO high quality! :) I have a B mat which I also love.
I know what you mean about the PRO! And wow, well done you! Here in Amsterdam we cycle and walk everywhere so I find it really heavy and bulky to lug around town! Watch out for my latest Manduka review of the GRP Adapt and Lite dropping in a couple hours! ;) if you’re a hot yoga fan or sweat a lot, that’s a mat to consider. :)
Lucid and engaging review, thank you, Jaime. I wanted a great mat for daily home practice, so my Pro is ordered and on its way! Thanks for the discount code. I’m excited to put it through its paces 🤗

@@jaimetan Have been using for a week orso now and I love it. I am practicing daily at the moment but am not super advanced or anything. I don’t get all of the fuss about it being too slippy. on the first few uses I could feel my hands edging forward a few millimetres in downward dog but could slow or halt that by clawing through the fingers and pressing down through the base of the thumb. I just rode with that as an interesting variation on my practice. It’s stopped alreadyandperfectly grippy now. No salt needed,
@@verylikecheryl YESSSSSS!! You've got it! It's exactly that - it's engaging through the fingertips and pressing all knuckles down that totally helps grip. Glad to hear that, and super glad you're enjoying the mat. :))))
Thanks so much for the excellent review of the different levels of mats. I need a new one and your video was perfect timing! I do want to get one that will last a long time. 😊
I definitely know what I would be looking at if I buy a Manduka. I have a really fantastic mat now, but I've always wondered about this brand, so thanks!
Whichever is cheapest would be my choice because when I put my current yoga mat down for stretching or floor exercises my kitty oins me and sharpens his claws on it 😂But great comparison Jamie, never thought of the differences.
Laughing already 2 minutes in! I bought a !!!£6!!! mat and have been doing yoga every day for 5 years! I have taken this travelling with me! It crumbles and slides around everywhere haha. It's only upside is it's old charm and that I can't rely on just a mat to grip me. I'm pretty excited to get a decent mat
Wowwww! Props to you for having lasted that long with your mat despite all that crumbling - you're definitely more patient than me! But glad to hear you're considering an upgrade! Sooooo... what's it gonna be? :))))

Thanks for the review! Want to ask about folding the ProLite 4.7mm. Will it ruin my mat? When I spoke to Manduka, they don’t recommend it but saw in your video that you do fold it. So want to hear from a real user. I’m considering purchasing it for traveling as I think the Eko Super Lite is too thin for my knees
The eko super lite is great when used as a skin on top of another mat (eg. A skin on top of a studio mat) but is definitely really thin when used on its own. Too thin for me but I know some people who use it on its own when travelling (I couldn’t!) The PROlite I’ve had for more than a decade now and over time it’s definitely got a crease line down the middle from folding in half then rolling (like in the video). It doesn’t bother me but I know it’ll bother some people so it depends what your preference is. Performance-wise it’s not affected as it still rolls out flat and stays flat during practice.
@@jaimetan Yes! I was trying to decide between a JadeYoga Travel Mat (3 mm thick) vs a JadeYoga Voyager (1.5 mm thick) for beginner weekly practice. I wanted something super light weight to carry to class... but you convinced me that if I get something too thin (such as 2 mm or less) then it will hurt my joints on the floor and won't be enough cushion. So I decided to get the heavier mat because of the extra cushion (3 mm and 3 pounds). I'm so happy with my decision and my joints will thank you! The Manduka brand looks amazing as well!
I have a Pro for a year and a half and really like it except the down dog. My hands slip only in this pose, but my feet don’t 🤷♀️ I tried to adjust my pose, spreading fingers, putting more pressure on knuckles etc. but no. One of the teachers said recently that you should be able to fit an imaginary blueberry under your palm and not smash it. I don’t really get it, how can you put pressure on your fingers and not smash a blueberry at the same time? I also did salt treatment twice per manduka recommendation. My back and shoulders hurt a lot after practice and I suspect down dog is the reason. I was even thinking to switch to liforme because everyone in my studio including teachers love and praise it. I use a small towel on top of the mat to help with slipping, but still don’t feel secure in this pose and still feel it’s wrong. And I don’t sweat too much.
Yup, the hand grip can be quite confounding and it takes constant refinement… and even advancing in handstands refined my handgrip for down dog. If you think of your finger tips and the edges of the palm (that’s under your knuckles as well as under your wrist) as suction cups, that’s what your teacher means with that imaginary blueberry - pressure is not from centre of the palm but you’re gripping from finger tips, pressing through knuckles, and base of wrist. And yes on top of that as you’re pressing down into the floor, you’re also using your shoulders. Different teachers teach this differently but whether you’re elevating or depressing shoulders, ultimately at the same time you’re pressing the hips up and away from you, in opposite direction of hands (as you press heels down with active thighs). So you’re not dumping all the weight into your hands and shoulders (which could possibly be causing your shoulder/ back pain). I mean… as you can see, there’s A LOT going on in down dog. Slipping on the mat is often not just coz of the mat but how the position is held - through the entire pose. It takes time and constant refinement til you get there. If you use a small yoga towel like the Manduka equa, you definitely need to spray it with water so you get grip from it, otherwise it’s just going to add to your slippery issue. These towels aren’t grippy unless they’re wet. Hope this helps! Keep going! And yup sometimes you might need to try another mat and see how you like it. I’ve also done a comparison between the liforme and Manduka (I find it too thin for my liking)… you can watch that review here: ua-cam.com/video/WJw8245xT4c/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for your thorough reply, I will try to use all tour tips next time and work on this pose. I watched your comparison video, and I believe I even watched it 2 years ago when I made a decision to go with Manduka. I am not willing to give up my mat yet, it is really solid, doesn’t move, stretch or wrinkle, it is thick and supportive, doesn’t soak up sweat, dirt and bacteria, everything is good about it! Thank you again so much for all the tips! 😊
THANK YOUUUUU!!! I'm a student and my natural rubber manduka mat just decided to take it's last breath and so i need a new mat. i just researched for two hours, finished it off with this review of yours and because of the "almost perfect" thing on the manduka site and your discount code I could get my no1 choice, the pro mat, in a color that hits me just right. Taking the pro by bike would be heavy. Mine stays in my car. I do have to walk a bit to get to the gym building. I have it in the Manduka carrier and consider it a “warm up”lugging it from the car to the gym.

I love yoga and a year ago I had my first manduka PRO mat, I love it!! I live in Mexico and we don´t have a store o get some discount codes, it would be a good idea to take into consideration the people of Latin America.
Hey Karla! Glad you love your Manduka mat! ...I’m based in Europe so unfortunately I’m only partnered with Manduka in Europe who don’t offer the discounts elsewhere. Agree with you though, would be great if they had a Latin American branch, so maybe write to them and ask? Enjoy your practice! 🙌
Great, thanks Deanne! And ugh, yeah... no joy with the Manduka US team at the moment, I'm gonna keep trying and will let you know if I have a breakthrough with them to sort my North American friends out too!
Ha! I feel you! And yeah the eKO was specifically coz those jump-backs and jump-throughs from ashtanga (or rather the shuffle-back and shuffle-through) shredded the mat!
May I ask if you're slipping a lot on your Pro mat? I've been practising on mine almost everyday for two years and it doens't get better. I tend to get sweaty hands during demanding vinyasa sequences and I slip a lot in downward dog ...
@@Sabibella Hey Sabi! Sorry to hear your PRO feels slippery. There's two things that could be happening: first is how you're gripping - are you gripping through all your finger tips? So you're not just applying pressure through the palm of your hands but also through all 10 finger tips AND press each knuckle down into the mat. That changes the grip for many. If this still doesn't work, perhaps a mat towel might be what you need - you can try with the smaller eQua hand towels from Manduka. I did another review of the bigger mat towel, but you can try it first with the smaller hand towel: ua-cam.com/video/KZ4xlLZQBnY/v-deo.html (and if you're in Europe, you can get a 10% discount through my code in description!) Hope this helps. :)
@@Sabibella I don't find the pro to be slippery but my hands don't sweat much unless I'm in a heated class - in which case I opt for the Manduka eko or liforme mat. The hand towel sounds like a great idea, if you can't get along with these I think the eko or liforme are a good shout - although they aren't as durable it will be worth it to prevent slipping. In down dog also try to bring the weight back towards your legs and really engage the thighs, perhaps that will help. Good luck :)
HA! I guess it’s softer so it’s more comfy... I’ve always found rugs to be too slippery though (they make cotton rug type of yoga mats too)... but my hands and feet keep sliding in down dog and I find standing poses like warrior 2 difficult on carpet when your feet keep slipping apart. But happy you’ve found a solution that works for you! 👍
Not really - it’s got quite a rubbery texture and thicker than eko lite - so think the eko lite would be more likely to damage if folded in a suitcase like I do with the superlite. I wouldn’t do it!
@@jaimetan your right the eko lite is too thick to fold. It's 4mm thick. I ended up buying the Jade travel mat which is 3mm and also foldable. The voyager was too thin at 1.5mm. Since I have the manduka superlite I wanted a thicker but foldable mat for hot yoga and Jade seemed to be the right one.
That’s what Manduka recommends on their website. I’ve never done that - just washed it with soap initially. Then again, I got my mats aaaaaaaages ago, before washing with salt was what they recommended. If it’s too slippery Initially then just do what they recommend on the faq’s on their website. 👍
Hi Jamie, thank you so much for your videos. It really helps me to decide which mat i will buy. I have ob’s question: does the Manduka pro get softer over time? i find them very hard after unpacking it. Ohhhh ist’s so hard to decide. I hesitate between the pro, adapt, eko oder Jade.
Hey Tina! You’re so welcome! And hmm… none of my PRO series mats have gotten softer over time so I doubt yours will too… I’m not sure that’s the answer you were hoping to hear though! This is definitely one of the pro’s of any of the PRO series mats - that they’re really stable because there’s hardly any “bounce” to them (really good for standing/ balancing poses so you don’t wobble). The PRO like you have is definitely supportive though - it helps in long-held Yin poses like dragon - the back knee on the floor doesn’t get painful. I have all 4 mats you mentioned at home (my bf uses Jade), and my fave is the Pro! The Adapt is too squishy and noisy (I made a review about it), and I don’t like grip of the eKO. It’s all so personal at the end of the day… I’ve found in general the people who gravitate to liking the feel of the PRO mats don’t really like the feel of the eKO mats and vice versa. If the PRO really isn’t for you, what about selling it and getting another one of the others?
YAY! And... yuuuuup... I've been folding it flat in fours to travel for years like this. The first few minutes after you take it out, the parts that got folded just need time to expand back (kinda like if you squeeze styrofoam packing material and release it, it springs back to shape.) But if I'm not traveling, I roll it up like a regular yoga mat. So it's only ever folded flat in a suitcase for like 4 - 30 hours, depending how long my journey takes. Then I unfold it and roll it up after taking it out of the suitcase. And when I roll it up, I first fold it in half and then roll it up (so that the underside of the mat where the floor's been doesn't touch the top part of the mat where I practice - I'm anal like that. haha) But because it's constantly folded in half then rolled up, there is a line halfway across the mat now - but considering I've been doing this for like... 10 years now, other than the line that's there there's no other wear and tear or bubbling up (like what happened to my Liforme only after trying the same thing once - check out my other Liforme review too). Disclaimer: folding it flat is in no way what's recommended by the manufacturer, so while it works for me - be careful with your new mat! ENJOY YOUR PROLITE! :))))
ps. you've given me another idea for another video, since I've had a number of people asking me about whether my mat's damaged after folding it flat. Might just do a close up test to show you guys. So thanks for the idea! :)
Hey Biwen! I made a video showing how I fold my mat and what it looks like folded before rolling - thanks to the idea you gave me here! ;) You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/v-deo.html Have a great day!
Hi! Thanks for the video! It’s so hard to pick up a mat online, I really wish there were some general shops with loads of mats to try! I really want a PRO mostly for the 6mm thickness and generous dimensions (I am quite tall) but I am really worried about not getting enough grip. I have the Eko SL and find the grip amazing. Once I break it in, would the PRO have an equally good grip? Or is the PRO just not for me?
@@laureemery1969 ah. The eko and Pro mats have quite different kinds of grip. In general I find the people who like the eko grip haven’t appreciated the kind of grip the Pro mats have (generalisation of course). Where the eko has a grippy rubbery feel, the Pro has a different texture feel to it. You need to engage through the finger pads/ knuckles more into the Pro mat - so it’s grippy but in a different kind of way (texturally) to the eko… hard to describe in words it really is something you need to experience since it’s so subjective. Sorry i can’t be of more help! (Or can you buy through Amazon and return in the worse case?)
@@jaimetanthanks a lot! It does help. It’s difficult as to really get a feel of the PRO mat, I would need to salt it and use it a lot before being able to really tell if I like it or not. And by that point I wouldn’t be able to return it… I managed to find one studio with Manduka mats (PROlite I think, nobody could tell me at the studio) and I was surprised at how slippery it was! To the point I had to constantly reposition myself. It was worse than with my £30 mat! Not sure if the mat was too new and still had the kind of film on it, but it made me question if that was the right mat for me. If it was cheap I would give it a try but I am a bit scared to put so much money in it and maybe don’t like it. But like you I am super grossed by the idea of sweat and dirt etc being soaked by the mat so I really want a closed cell mat and my knees would very much appreciate de 6mm thickness. But thanks for your video and for your reply! It does help :)
@@laureemery1969 great that you had a chance to test it! And yup - the Pro mats ensure you need to engage your hand and foot bandhas in order to get the grip. The eko is more forgiving that way 👌
My knees often hurt when I kneel and I find that I have to double up my 6mm mat with a thinner mat to protect my knees. Will the Pro Manduka mat eliminate the need for doubling up on a. mat? Love your vlogs.
Hiya! Thanks for watching and commenting! The thing is, pain/comfort is so personal it’s hard for me to say. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa. It also depends on what kind of material your 6mm mat is made from. The PRO is about 6mm too but it is quite thick. I know some people who still need more cushioning on top of it but for the majority of people it’s enough. I also have a tiny, mini liforme mat I use specially for handstand training when I don’t need a big mat, although it was originally created for use as extra cushioning for sensitive joints… that might be easier for you since it’s a small mat? This one: geni.us/liforme-yoga-pad
Thanks for the video! Been dilemma for weeks until I found this video. Just one curious point, is the mat easy to stain? Considering to buy their latest PROlite light blue colour (it looks so pretty!!), but am worrying about the colour degrading and/or easy stains over time. Appreciate your reply in advance!
Hi Jane! Thanks for watching! I don’t know about light colours as I’ve only ever had black, midnight blue and a very long time ago I had a deep rose-red. They never stained, but to be honest they are dark colours. I’m sure with any light colour any dirt shows up more easily, but i don’t know if they degrade or stain over time. Perhaps email Manduka customer service and ask them?
Jaime, thank you so much for this review. I bought a Manduka Pro and have not been able to break it in properly. Tried salting, leaving it in the sun, washing it, and it is still not sticky. I gave up and bought a Jade and love it. I don't want to give up on the PRO however. Please help!!
Hi Vishal! I’m sorry to hear that :( I’m not sure what you can do, but let me chat with the product team at Manduka and I’ll get back to you with what they say! Gimme a few days. 👌
Hey Vishal! Had a chat with someone in the product team at Manduka and it seems like if you’re preferring the grip of the Jade, then the grip of the Pro may not be the right mat for you... and instead their eKO series of mats might be what you prefer, since those are natural rubber and of a similar texture and feel to the Jade. Years ago I had an eKO lite mat and my boyfriend practices on a Jade mat... but to be honest I don’t enjoy the feel of either. 🤷🏻♀️ So this is when it comes down to personal preference of the feel and texture of mats. And unfortunately in this case it may be that the PRO mat actually isn’t the right mat for you, and you might actually prefer the eKO! If you’re already happy with your Jade... then that’s actually great news coz - hey! You have a mat you’re enjoying and practising on! 🙌
No, it doesn’t! Unfortunately it only works on the Europe and UK websites but not the US 🙃 I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for! Incidentally Amazon Prime day is June 21 and 22 in a few days where there’ll be lots of discounts. Perhaps they might have discounts on the Manduka mats? I have Amazon links to: geni.us/manduka-prolite-mat geni.us/manduka-pro-mat geni.us/manduka-eko-superlite Hope this helps!
So my MMA gym does yoga classes was looking into a really nice mat and the lifetime warranty got me I already carry like a 20lbs bag filled with my jiujitsu Gi my 2 pairs of gloves shin guards etc don’t really wanna have a super super heavy mat but I also want some decent cushioning any recommendations? I’m pretty tall not overly about 6ft tall roughly so I would like an extra bit of length and width on my mat and I really like the fact these mats don’t retain sweats and stuff
Heya! I think the PROlite mat would be great - the regular sized mat is 4lbs, and they also do an extra long version that's 4.5lbs. You can check out the mat dimensions on Manduka's product site through my affiliate link: bit.ly/336iDJa This is the one I take to/ from the yoga studio and occasionally travel with if I have the luggage space (otherwise I take the travel version). The travel version of any of these mats are just too thin for regular practice and won't provide the cushioning you're looking for. The PROlite has the "just nice" factor of stable support and weight. Do note the cushioning on this is firm - there's not a lot of "bounce" or give on it but it still gives you the stable support you need (eg. knees still feel supported and 'cushioned' in kneeling poses - you're not going to feel the floor through this). I hope that makes sense! If you have a stockist near you, I'd suggest you check it out! in person to see if you like how it feels. They also do the eKO series of natural rubber mats which have a bit more "bounce" to them. I've found in general people who don't like the feel of the PRO mats have preferred the feel of the eKO and vice versa. Hope this helps!
@@jaimetan thank you so much I think Imma get the black longer and wider 79x30? I forget but ya I think it’s about 129 which will be good for me cuz I’m either bordering or on the 6ft tall height lol
Ciao Guillermo! I’m not sure what you mean about the mat getting sticky at the beach? I think with any yoga mat at the beach, the uneven terrain of the sand will be an issue unless you have a wooden board/ plank you can place your mat on to practice on. The good thing about the PRO series mats is they’re closed cell so won’t absorb water so will be easy to hose down and clean after a day at the beach. Not sure this answers your question though! 🤷🏻♀️
Love the Manduka Pro, initially I had some grip issues but after a couple of mounths and some washes it belonged a very good all days mat! I purchased a second mat in blue because color is important for me, and donated the oldest to the physio clinic where I work. Thank you for the discount code, I used it to buy a carry bag 😊
Hi Jamie, great informative video. You were able to fold the Pro Lite mat into square, is that the same case with Pro, can we fold them like a square. I know it might look bulky but is that even an option ? Lots of other company mats doesn't fold that way, we need to roll them. By the way I saw the other video, where you were showing about how to roll a mat ? Was that a lite or a pro ?
Hey Ravi! Thanks, glad you enjoyed this one. I only fold the PROlite and all the travel mats (PRO and eKO). The PRO is too big to be folded - because it’s thicker it just wouldn’t work! If it helps when you’re watching my videos, my PRO is the black mat and the PROlite and PRO-travel are the navy blue mats.
@@jaimetan okay got it. Thanks Jamie. I am considering getting one pro but also the website says that it’s not recommended for everyone starting out and it needs to break in and for break-in either we have to practice everyday to make the mat rough or take some salt and put on the mat and then keep in sunlight the wipe with a cloth. All that instructions on the website. Not sure why ?
@@ravichandra86425 the Pro mats are all a little slippery initially - there’s like a film over it from the manufacturing process whcih needs to be washed away/ broken down. I never salted any of my Pro mats, just washed them with body soap/ bath gel in the shower a few times and they were good to go. But bear in mind my Pro mats are more than 10 years old now so I don’t know if they’ve changed the manufacturing process/ how they’re made now. Coz back in the day, they never suggested salting your mat as an option!
@@ravichandra86425 you’re welcome! Hope you enjoy your purchase, whatever you end up with. (And wherever you buy from just ensure they have a return policy in case you really don’t like the feel of it. Yoga mats are such a personal taste thing!)
TY! Have you tried the Grp Adapt Mat that just came out from Manduka? For me, the Pro/Pro Lite were like skating rinks (a sentiment echoed by many users). I thought it was going to be the one. The salt scrub didn’t work to break down the film. I don’t have the patience to wear it in (Manduka, why not do it before it goes to the user). Not a towel gal. I ended up going Jade Harmony - perfect right out of the box. Made in the US of A. Open cell (one way to clean it is 3 parts water/one part vinegar - which works like a charm). The mat has grip like no other mat I’ve tried. Cons: yes, it does break down faster but I feel safe and stable. Because it’s so grippy, it’s hard to slide through in some poses. I wish it were a tad thicker (they do have a thicker version but too thick for me. I like the stability of the thinner mat). I only use black or navy so I don’t worry about colors (but they have lots of colors to choose from). Some find the mat a tad narrow and short (68 inches. It does come in longer sizes and many colors). I do Hatha and Vinyasa twice a day at home on a wood floor. I have wanted to check out the B Mat and Lifeforme. Right now, the Jade has my heart. P.S. In my humble opinion, I’d tone down the sales pitch at the end.
Thanks for your comment! Glad you like the Jade mat and found your soul mat (lol). My guy uses the Jade mat too and loves it, but I don't like it coz it feels like I'm practicing on a giant sponge. I mean it's a firm sponge, but it's that weird spongy texture I'm not a fan of. It's the same reason I'm not such a fan of the Manduka eKO mats - they've got a similar spongey/ rubbery feel to the Jade. But I guess that's why there are so many different mat varieties to fit everyone's tastes. And no, haven't tried the Grp Adapt yet - it looks similar to the Liforme and Lulu mats which I'm also not such a fan of - they're supposed to be grippy but they scuff easily! But I definitely want to test drive the Grp Adapt for sure... look out for another possible review soon! ;)
Wow and interesting. I don't find the Jade Harmony spongy at all. Firm, close to the ground. I guess we feel what we feel! But I think I know what you mean. Thanks for brief on Lifeforme and Lulu (which mean skip, for me). I went with my priorities: grip and stability. P.S. Love that line: soul mat...Glad you found yours.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the B Mata and the GRP Adapt. I got a feeling I won't find the GRP sticky enough (I do Vinyasa and Hatha). P.S. "Sticking" to Jade Harmony for now unless you find me a better one (obviously not Manduka for me). The Jade really helped upped my practice because I felel safe and secure. I so wanted to love the Pro. I'm old. I can't wait that long for the film to wear ioff. Thanks for being so helpful and appreciated your thought on the EKo. It was on my list. Not any more. Lifeforme intrigues me but I'm a rule breaker so not sure the lines would make me happier or annoyed.
@@seechangenyc280 heya! Nice to see you back here again. If you like the Jade, you’ll probably like the eKO. I think we both like a very different feeling mat as I’m not into the Jade! I recently did 2 reviews, one comparing the liforme with Manduka PRO/ GRP here: ua-cam.com/video/WJw8245xT4c/v-deo.html and another on the GRP Adapt and Lite and here: ua-cam.com/video/rozaY6vxVso/v-deo.html I’m loaded up with mats, and probably not doing another mat review soon after this! 🤣
@@jaimetan Gotcha. P.S. I bet I'd love the Manduka if you could break it in for me. I love the way it feels. I have friends who adore it (and hate it). As an immediate gratification girl, I have no patience - which I had hoped to gain from yoga (lol).
Thank you for your video. Im looking for yoga mat now, it's really helpful. Manduka Pro seems like my type as I don't mind the weight. So can I carry pro mat to shower for warm soapy water to clean after every use? Looking forward to seeing your reply Jaime.
Hey Sophia! Yes, you can definitely wash with soap coz that’s what i do. Also - check the FAQs on Manduka’s website as they give a lot of advice on cleaning and maintenance. I’m not sure they recommend using soap and water, but I’ve been doing it for more than a decade now and it’s been fine on the mats (that have a lifetime guarantee too!) 👍
@@jaimetan thank you so much for your reply. This is my type of yoga mat, long lasting and easy maintenance. I think I will get it as my birthday present.
i cant decide between the pro and prolite, any thoughts?? D: whats the main difference other than the thickness and price, and does the thickness affect performance?
Heya! The PRO’s thickness feels a bit more stable and supportive. Because it’s so much heavier, it literally just sticks to the ground and feels solid. The PROlite is thinner and hence lighter. Personally I don’t find this affects performance as it’s the same material so you get the same grip and traction. But if you do a lot of yin where you’re kneeling for a while or have sensitive knees, you may need to fold the PROlite over for a bit more comfort whereas it’s fine on the PRO. While I love the PRO, it’s not a mat I would lug around to a studio or go traveling with as it’s just too thick and heavy, so for me it’s only for home practice. I love the PROlite as my take-everywhere mat. Hope this helps!
@@jaimetan ahh thank you so much for your detailed reply as well as this detailed video!!! i’m really conflicted because i don’t see myself bringing it around much, hence i should probably get the pro. but if the prolite works just as well maybe i should just save some money..?

@@ActionAndyTV I think it depends on what you're used to. Have you been using a regular yoga mat before this and did you find the length OK? If so, the standard length mat of the Manduka will be similar and should be fine! Also the other thing to think about is if you ever decide to go to live yoga classes at a studio, it's easier with a standard length mat especially in crowded classes. The longer mats can be awkward/ get in the way of other people's mats coz they're too long.
Thank you so much for making this video! I was debating between the original pro and pro lite, and this made me confidently press ‘add to cart’ on the pro lite. :^)
YAAAAAASSSSS!! Congrats on the purchase! To be honest, you can’t go wrong with either... the lite is... well.. lighter (ha) which makes it a lot more travel-friendly. Enjoy your new mat! 🙌
Thanks so much Abed! My channel's more about managing stress and burnout rather than weight-loss per se... buuuuuut... with high stress it can lead to more weight gain too. So thanks for your suggestion, let me think about how I can theme a class for stress + weight-loss. Thanks so much for the sub!
Hey Brandon! The issue with ANY mat on carpet is the carpet creates more space between the floor and the mat - which means it will be unstable, especially with standing/ balancing poses. You'll get that ankle-wobble. It might be better with a low-pile rug, but if it's a high-pile/ plush carpet, no mat is going to give you good stability on that. The PRO might be the best out of all of these since it's the heaviest/ thickest... but it really depends on how plush your carpet is. Also - it depends on the yoga style you practice. If it's Yin or restorative - then the carpet's actually great as a cushioning base under the mat - you don't need more stability with those yoga styles. If it's ashtanga or vinyasa you practice with a lot of standing and one-leg balancing poses, then a plush carpet is going to feel unstable under practically any mat! Hope this helps...
Exactly like how I do it at 09:02, yes you can! I do it all the time, especially when traveling so it can lay flat in a suitcase. 😬 Probably not recommended by Manduka, but I’ve done it for years now and there’s no crease or damage. When you first take it out of a suitcase after 20 hours of being folded, there’s usually a crease in it at midpoint. But after a couple hours rolled out it springs back to shape again. 👍
Hey Tania! I made a video on how I fold then roll my mat - so you can see what this looks like here: ua-cam.com/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/v-deo.html Have a great day! :)
Hello Jaime. I'd like to ask if you find that folding the Pro Lite leaves creases in it? Would folding it flat increase the chances of me ruining my mat? I read about your habit of folding them in half first before rolling them up in another article, does it still lay flat well if rolled up like that?
Hey Caryn! Happy new year! :) and yes, I think I mentioned that in my other review of the liforme vs. Manduka. When you first unroll the PROlite (after folding in half), there’s a crease in it, but within the next 5-10 minutes it springs back to its regular shape. Because the mat is quite heavy/dense, it lays totally flat every time. I used to travel quite a bit (until 2020), and I’d always pack the PROlite by folding it in 4, so it laid flat in the suitcase (like how I folded it in this video at 09:03). I’ve done this numerous times on long haul flights between 12-20 hours but it’s always sprung back to shape again after. It’s been +/-10 years of doing this and it’s still fine!
Hey Caryn! I made a video on how I fold then roll my mats. If you're interested in seeing what this looks like and how it turns out, you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/v-deo.html Have a great day!
Hello! I don’t have the Manduka strap but I have an old strap that also functions as a mat strap - it works similarly and I love it... so I’m sorry but I have no experience with the Manduka strap!
@@cheecheunleong7234 I made this video on how to roll your mat and at 3:05 you’ll see how the straps loop around the mat either side. The Manduka mat carrier strap works similarly and there’s no buckle, so I’m not sure what you mean! It’s in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/v-deo.html
@@jaimetan I'm using manduka pro.i love it so much,at first I found slippery due I'm good in sweating but after practice a period of time, gripping getting better
@@cheecheunleong7234 good to hear about your pro mat! How so? I've had my first PRO mat for 15+, almost 20 years now and it still looks as good as and functions like the day I got it. And I'm a regular practitioner - practising and teaching on this mat. Would be great to explain what your experience is with these mats and how you have this conclusion?
Awesome! Glad you’re loving your PROlite too! I’ve just done a review on the GRP series too - if you’re into hot yoga and don’t like fussing with towels, that’s a consideration. (I think it’s still hard for me to move away from the PROlite!) ua-cam.com/video/rozaY6vxVso/v-deo.html stay tuned this Sunday where my next video on liforme vs Manduka is coming out too! ;)
@@caives oh, that’s AMAZING! Happy to have helped. 🙌😬 enjoy your new mat, and tag me on Instagram @enlightenedspoon when you get your new purchase... I love living vicariously through other people’s new purchases, LOL! ❤️
I know what you mean! Ultimately you won’t go wrong with either mat. If you want a solid mat you can use/ abuse/ fold in half to put in a suitcase/ easily wash and soap down - Manduka PROlite is the way to go. If you do hot yoga or get sweaty then put a mat towel over it. If you’re not into towels, then Manduka GRP or Liforme are the way to go (but both of these aren’t as durable). Liforme’s grip and feel is great but it’s super expensive and not as durable... so if you don’t mind spending a load of money every few years on a new mat, you’ll like the Liforme (oh, you also can’t fold this in half in a suitcase). So... as long as you know what the cons are and know what you’re in for, then go for it! Both brands are great so you can’t go wrong 👍
Ugh, oh no i'm sorry for the theft! I know how that feels coz I had a previous Manduka stolen from me too - after I left it at the yoga studio. It even had my name in black marker written on it (they probably didn't know this til after they rolled it out, lol). But it still sucks! Hope you'll get to replace it soon!
Well done Jelani! And if your 4 year old mat is still going, then keep going with it... unless it’s shredding up and you’re looking for a new one then definitely consider the Manduka. 👍
Here from the US and thought I wanted a Liforme until watching this. I’m ready to advance to a high quality, thinner grippy mat. You helped me feel confident about getting a Manduka pro lite! Thank you!! 💞💞
Awesome! Glad to have helped! I recently made a comparison review of Liforme vs Manduka PRO and GRP mats here which goes into pros and cons of the Liforme here if you’re interested: ua-cam.com/video/WJw8245xT4c/v-deo.html not to add to the confusion, but sometimes it’s good to consider different perspectives, especially when one is spending so much money on a mat! (TLDR: PROlite is still my choice especially if you want durability). 😉
Yup. All the PRO series mats do. Read the FAQ section on Manduka’s website as that’s most up to date info. I don’t work for nor represent the company 😅 you can read more here: eu.manduka.com/apps/help-center 👍
Are they as slippery as the reviews say? What has been steering me away from these is that I have been seeing SO many negative reviews describing them as extremely slippery. :(
I think this comes down to personal preference and is ultimately subjective. I've had my PRO for more than a decade (maybe almost 2 decades now) and my PROlite is almost a decade old now... and I have zero complaints of slipperiness. I don't know if the recent production methods have changed (hence changing the grip factor)... but ultimately if you're used to a rubbery grip more like the Jade mats, then you WON'T like the PRO mat's grip as it's not a rubbery texture like that. I personally don't like the rubbery feel of the Jade or Manduka's equivalent - the eKO series, as I find there's too much friction when jumping through. I find the PRO series really firm and stable and not at all slippery... so the only thing I can advise is: test them out! If there's a store or studio near you that has these, try them! If you don't like it, you might like Manduka's eKO series (with more rubbery grip). Hope this helps. :)
@@jaimetan Thank you so much for responding! I think I understand. I feel much less worried about the PROlite now. Do you have any experience with their grippy towels?
@@Iyana Nice! And yes actually - I made a review of Manduka's eQua mat towels here: ua-cam.com/video/KZ4xlLZQBnY/v-deo.html If you're referring to the yogitoes with the little silicone nubs at the bottom, I don't like that as I can feel the nubs below me... plus I love the silky velvety feel of the eQua towels (the yogitoes are a bit rougher). Hope this helps! PS. are you in the UK or Europe? Make sure to use my 10% discount code "ENLIGHTENEDSPOON" on the Manduka website if you are! (doesn't work in the US though, unfortunately).
Thank you for flipping the mats so we could all see what 6, 4 and 1 mm means to them. It is unacceptable to have a yoga mat above 5 lbs or one as thin as the thinnest one here, so I'm looking for something light but dense & knee & jump friendly.
The 1mm is great as a travel mat - I often use it as a second skin on top of studio mats or even at the gym. Coz… the other mats are 2kg and above and if you’re trying to cutdown carry-on weight or luggage space, that helps. The 6 and 4mm ones might be what you like!
Hello! Your video was super helpful-thank you! When you say the pro mat has closed cell technology do you mean only the Pro or does the prolite come with closed cell technology as well?
You’re so welcome, Kristi! All the PRO series mats are made of the same material, so the PROlite is also closed cell (as is the PRO travel). So you’re good if you’re considering the PROlite too. It’s the eKO and GRP series mats that absorb water/ sweat - check out my other reviews of those other mats too! (But the PRO a series are still my fave) . Good luck with your decision and let me know what you end up getting! 🙌

Great comparison of the 3 different yoga mats. I have personally owned the pro mat for over 10 years and it's still as good as new. Best yoga mat investment I've ever made! I don't think I'll need another mat again!
Agree! High five!
Great assessment Jaime ... had my Pro for 17 Years still brand new!
They don't call it the "Rolls Royce of mats" for nothing! Well at least back in the day that's what they used to call it... but that term hasn't stuck! I've been test-driving a bunch of their newer series mats... but I still come back to the good old PRO and PROlite. :)

@@susanbarbella3477 ooOOOOooo. Would love to hear how you’re liking the extra sticky! 🙌

Thanks for your thoughts, Jessica! I'd love to go to Wanderlust one day too... :) I'm not sure the PRO will be good for pilates coz even though it's thicker, it doesn't have much bounce to it - which is what you'd really need for more pilates mat work.
Too thin for me but I know some people who use it on its own when travelling (I couldn’t!)
The PROlite I’ve had for more than a decade now and over time it’s definitely got a crease line down the middle from folding in half then rolling (like in the video). It doesn’t bother me but I know it’ll bother some people so it depends what your preference is. Performance-wise it’s not affected as it still rolls out flat and stays flat during practice.
Thank you so much for this thorough and honest review! I found it super helpful. Thank you!
You’re so welcome, Genevieve! …and did it help with which mat you think might be best for you now?
@@jaimetan Yes! I was trying to decide between a JadeYoga Travel Mat (3 mm thick) vs a JadeYoga Voyager (1.5 mm thick) for beginner weekly practice. I wanted something super light weight to carry to class... but you convinced me that if I get something too thin (such as 2 mm or less) then it will hurt my joints on the floor and won't be enough cushion.

That’s dedication, well done you! I find it too heavy to lug around. We bike everywhere in Amsterdam where I live, so every extra bit of weight on your back counts! But glad it works for you! 🙌

Terrific set of reviews Jaime - thank you! Just FYI, your code is invalid on the Manduka Canadian website 😔
Great, thanks Deanne! And ugh, yeah... no joy with the Manduka US team at the moment, I'm gonna keep trying and will let you know if I have a breakthrough with them to sort my North American friends out too!
Pro, Pro, Pro! It's my favourite mat! Thanks for the video :) also love the eko for vinyasa so was surprised yours didn't hold up well!
Ha!
@@Laura-pk2fd Thanks so much for the quick response! I will try the hand towel and maybe it will help. :)
Such an interesting comparison! Thanks

I have always used a yoga mat but for 2 weeks I've been using my new living room carpet and can you believe I found it more comfortable? ☺️😆
I’m happy with my manduka pro.
Awesome! Glad you like it too ❤️
Can the Manduka eko lite be folded? I have the eko superlite but want to know if the eko lite can also be folded?
Not really - it’s got quite a rubbery texture and thicker than eko lite - so think the eko lite would be more likely to damage if folded in a suitcase like I do with the superlite. I wouldn’t do it!
@@jaimetan Have you used or owned an eko lite before? I see you have the pro lite but that's a different one.

Do you really need to rub your new mat with sea salt? It does feel a bit gooey, possibly slippery.

I am getting the prolite! Can I really fold it like you did-all the time-without damaging it?
YAY! And...

@@jaimetan Thanks! Nice suggestion! I should reach out to them for clarification ;D

Hi Jamie! I’m looking for a mat for the beach, will the PROlite work on this ocasion? Or it’ll get sticky?

Lifeforme intrigues me but I'm a rule breaker so not sure the lines would make me happier or annoyed.

i cant decide between the pro and prolite, any thoughts??

@@jaimetan sweet! Question for you. I’m about about 5 11 tall 158lbs. Do you think Mandu Pro 71 size is enough for me to use at home? Thanks 😍
@@jaimetan Thanks for your info. I just got the regular one. I think I should be okay with standard. Thanks again 😍👍🏼
You're too nice to hear, 🎉
Aww thanks!
Super helpful!!! Thanks (:
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching ❤️
Oh WOW. That was very helpful. Please make videos on yoga for weight loss too, I am the new sub 👍🏼👍🏼
How do they do on carpet?
Can you fold the PRO lite???
I like the ProLite
Yeah, that's definitely my go to mat, too! Thanks for sharing!
If you're interested in seeing what this looks like and how it turns out, you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/BNTmPVt4kWg/v-deo.html Have a great day!
hi, can you please share ur experience with manduka strap?thanks
Hello! I don’t have the Manduka strap but I have an old strap that also functions as a mat strap - it works similarly and I love it... so I’m sorry but I have no experience with the Manduka strap!
@@jaimetan thanks for response. I got normal strap but the buckle not ideal to hold it
@@cheecheunleong7234 I made this video on how to roll your mat and at 3:05 you’ll see how the straps loop around the mat either side.
And yup, it takes a bit of breaking in for some people - but for some it’s also not a mat they ever like or get used to (if you read the other comments in this video). So I’m glad yours is working out! Watch that other video to check out what the mat strap is like! 👍
Thank u, I use your code un france !
You’re so welcome! What did you get? Hope you enjoy your new purchase!
@@jaimetan I bought the prolite yoga mat 😍✨
@@Okhjk yay! That’s my all-time fave, no matter what else I practice on, I keep coming back to this one. I hope you’ll enjoy it loads too! 🙌
These Manduka mats are absolute scams
How so? I've had my first PRO mat for 15+, almost 20 years now and it still looks as good as and functions like the day I got it. And I'm a regular practitioner - practising and teaching on this mat. Would be great to explain what your experience is with these mats and how you have this conclusion?
Very good review. I have been using prolite and loving it. Agree with you that prolite is very versatile and super durable.
Awesome! Glad you’re loving your PROlite too! I’ve just done a review on the GRP series too - if you’re into hot yoga and don’t like fussing with towels, that’s a consideration. (I think it’s still hard for me to move away from the PROlite!) ua-cam.com/video/rozaY6vxVso/v-deo.html stay tuned this Sunday where my next video on liforme vs Manduka is coming out too! ;)
Thank you, this was really great!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! Do you practice on a Manduka too? If not - what do you use and what's your fave mat? :)
@@jaimetan I just got my Pro mat today :) Thanks for the discount code
@@caives oh, that’s AMAZING! Happy to have helped. 🙌😬 enjoy your new mat, and tag me on Instagram @enlightenedspoon when you get your new purchase... I love living vicariously through other people’s new purchases, LOL! ❤️
Hi again🙏🏻 i'm here after watching manduka vs liforme vdo 😁
Difficult to decide between these two mats
Subscribed already 😘
PS. Thanks for your support! 🙌
Hello) Can you help me pls, which color is the middle one? Is that midnight or voyage?
That’s the midnight, it’s like a dark blue
I had a maduka mat when working with lululemon and really got to know them pretty well. This is a great review Jaime! (Someone stole mine, sadly )
I think it's time for me to get a new mat I've had it for four years lol Thanks for sharing.
Hi! Can you please tell me, does lite pro also have a lifetime guarantee?
Yup. All the PRO series mats do. Read the FAQ section on Manduka’s website as that’s most up to date info. I don’t work for nor represent the company 😅 you can read more here: eu.manduka.com/apps/help-center 👍
thank you@@jaimetan
I have never used the Manduka Yoga mats before but from your review I may have to consider them next time I buy a new mat!
Awesome! Hopefully by then I'd have sorted out the US promo code... and once you step on one, you'll be a convert! 😂
Oooooh great recommendation! I need to check what kind of yoga mat I have, as I don't actually know!
Thanks for your comment, Dr. Zib! As long as you're happy with your mat, it's all good. :)
Hello friend I came to support you like 35🤝👍🙏
Thanks for your support!
The discount code worked! Thank you so much!
