  • Today I want to show you how to make buttonholes. I know that not everyone has a special sewing machine, so I've decided to show you how to make them without it.
In the place where we live, it's the perfect weather for some light jackets now, so this technique is very useful.
    Natalie will help me today.
If you don’t have a special equipment for making buttonholes, this technique would be very useful for you!
I searched for an appropriate tutorial in the Internet, and couldn’t find anything. You know that I don’t like complicated techniques, so we’ll show you the most simple way to make buttonholes.
First we need to draw a center front and make a spacing seam on it.
The thing is that both facing fabric and interfacing fabric shouldn't stretch at least in one direction.
Next we need to cut 2 stripes, 2cm wide each.
After that we need to fold them in half and iron. You should be very accurate.
Buttonholes can be of different size - bigger or smaller. It depends on fabric and design.
I want you to understand the technique. This is the most important thing.
We made so many bound buttonholes in my fashion house! We haven’t had a special machine.
Watch how Natalie works. She is an amazing tailor!
We make spacing seams in order not to make mistakes.
When the buttonhole is ready, we’ll need to iron it once again both from the right and the wrong sides.
This is a very useful technique. Such buttonholes would never break.
This is a very useful tutorial for those who don’t have special equipment for making buttonholes. Even if you do, it’s better for you to know how to make bound buttonholes too.

Amazing! I would have burned my fingers off with that potent steam iron, and the buttonhole came out perfectly. I can’t imagine making an entire coat-front of them. Holy Toledo!

I 1st learned to make bound buttonholes back before home sewing machines could make zigzag stitches; I was in too much of a hurry to make the buttonholes by hand. And still I have learned from this tutorial. Thank you.

If you would use a much larger example for the buttonhole (at least 3-4 inches(8-10cm), and a contrast thread color then viewers could actually see what is happening. Fingers, hands,, presser foot and scissors, cover up what we are to see on a tiny screen of phone My computer is not working at present time. It seems that your technique is simple and worth learning with all positive comments. The closed captions are not complete on this video, and there is no way to quiet the other voice making listening/understanding diffucult. I am not trying to be difficult, but bound buttonholes are intimidating but so beautiful. I truly want to learn how to sew them. Guess I will keep looking for a good intructional video.

JoJo Sewist what do you want for free? Go to your local library where there are plenty of books on this subject with photos and illustrations. Better yet...free computers at the library to view this one better if that was your problem. No one else had a problem with this tutorial. Nobody’s fault your computer is not working. By the time you complained, you could have Googled more options to learn or visited your local library. Mic drop!!🎤

Although I have 2 sewing machines, able to sew buttonholes, neither of them can sew on thick fabric (loden), so I will have to stitch them by hand (too hairy fabric to use this tecnique 🤔) I hope I won't damage the fabric 😳
