I'm in the small minority of rooting for Disney's diversity-friendly Star Wars like Ahsoka and The Acolyte. Waited in line for hours for Phantom Menace because everyone else were so hyped, but truth be told, never thought much of the prequels. As one grows older, hive mind herd mentality has less grasp.

Star Wars was never about non diverse characters. Did you forget Lando, Leia, Mace, Ahsoka, Padme, Ventress… not to mention all the legend characters. When was Star Wars patriarchal? When was Star Wars not diverse? The problem here is not the diversity, it’s that the diversity is the priority and not a well written script and characters. I can assure you that if the characters were written well nobody would give a sh*t about character’s sexualities. But this is what happens when you prioritize diversity instead of competent actors and screenwriters

@@lulas491 I'm not talking about the SW cartoons, comics, or literature, but the original George Lucas films that featured mostly white leading male actors as main protagonists for the bulk of their installments. Lando was the one-off trophy black man. The stereotypes of other races and their respective accents portrayed as inferior aliens are well documented.
Over the past three and four decades since A New Hope, the status quo of representation in Hollywood have changed in tandem with evolving social norms. The fact is, not everyone in the SW demographics embrace this change. These subgroups feel as if "woke" standards peddled by Disney are infiltrating their nostalgia, if not outright threatening their core biases. Heightened negativity bias toward Disney contents ensue.
Andor was superior across the board compared to the originals, yet still receive hate from aforementioned subgroups for above-mentioned reasons.

      @@ssotkowtwo things here:
      1) even in the original movies there are powerful female leaders. Leia lead an entire rebellion, padme was the senator of an entire planet, mon mothma was also a high figure in the rebellion and was a senator and everyone likes these characters. But the reality is that this show is getting bad reviews by the fans and the fans didn’t just watch the movies they watched all the series and a lot are familiar with some legend stuff. These fans love female characters like ahsoka, ventress, Mara jade etc… if you proclaim yourself a fan and only watched the 9 movies get outta here.
      2) Again point 1 shouldn’t even matter because as I said the problem here isn’t the diversity, IT’S THE WRITING. The story is bad and it breaks a lot of lore, even the basic one established in the movies. This show is so boring and the characters are unlikable. For an 8 episode series every episode should be interesting, I’m not saying there has to be action in every episode, you can make great shows with little action (andor), but at least the dialogue should be interesting and enticing and should bring forward the story. Every episode feels boring because literally nothing happens

Let's not gatekeep here. Maybe we'll have to agree to disagree, but no one has to "get outta here" just because their experience with Star Wars doesn't include media beyond the movies. There are no arbitrary requirements that people need to fulfill just to be considered a fan of the property. Consuming more things beyond the movies can make you more of a hardcore fan, sure, but invalidating a persons experience otherwise isn't right. That is toxic, elitist thinking and should not be welcome in the fandom, or any fandom for that matter. Star Wars is for everyone to enjoy, no matter how much of it they've watched.
Anyone who enjoys even just 1 Star Wars movie shouldn't have to feel less than or unwelcome just because that's all they've watched or gotten into. And on the flipside, your opinion shouldn't magically hold more weight just because you've consumed every piece of Star Wars media in existence.
It's fine if you think the show is boring and you think the characters are unlikeable. It's fine if you don't find it enjoyable. I'm sorry that you feel that way, honestly.
But others feel differently and are actually enjoying the show. Maybe don't spew your negativity and try to bring everyone else down with you just because you're not having a good time. 🤷🏼‍♂️
As an asian POC person, this is the first time I've been able to enjoy seeing asian POC characters as MAIN CHARACTERS with substantial roles in a Star Wars story. The impact of that is huge. For the first time we get to see characters who look like us in leading roles rather than just throwaway background characters who barely have any lines.
Just let people enjoy what they enjoy instead of yucking their yum.

@@bdubztvthe whole thing about the extra shows is to say a lot of the hardcore fans are the people trashing this show, those people simultaneously enjoy lots of female and black or whatever characters in the Star Wars universe. That goes to say that the roasting of this show has nothing to do with genders, race or sexuality (especially sexuality since I’m gay myself).
I hated how they showed the couple in episode 3, they did the classic Disney thing of show but not show, they caressed each other cheeks. Do you know why they didn’t have the balls to make them kiss? Money. Disney wants the show out in many nations as possible and instead of making them kiss, since they want to break some barriers according to them, they just caress their cheeks. Disney wants to capitalize on as many people as possible and also from the lgbt people who know no better.
Not to talk about how stupid and lore braking is the fact that they conceive a child without a man, since Anakin was the only person to be born without a father, and that’s what made him special.
Or also the presence of ki-adi-mundi in the meeting in episode 4 that makes 0 sense at all.
I’m not saying you don’t have to enjoy it, you do you. I’m just pointing out some of the flaws that destroy a lot of lore

What bothers me other than the script that makes 0 sense is the pacing. All this episode could’ve been done easily in 5 minutes but noooo 30 minutes of nothing. This show cost 180 million dollar, that makes every episode about 22 million dollars. Where did that money go? Certainly not in the cgi, certainly not in the writing, certainly not in the actors. The only thing I suppose is that it went in advertising and reshoots

Sorry you're not enjoying it. It's not perfect but I'm definitely enjoying the show for what it is. It's far from 30 minutes of nothing but I understand if maybe it's just not your cup of tea.
I understand the concern of some things being seemingly lore breaking, but I'll hold off until the full story of the season is told before I make any definitive judgements.
I personally think Lee Jung Jae and Manny Jacinto are doing amazing with their performances and portrayal of their respective characters.
