Excellent tutorial and explanation. I subscribed to your channel . Just one question. How do I define in the custom curve 80 percent middle grey. Or is it more or less pointing. Thank' a lot
I have seen people use custom curves without setting middle grey. What situations/projects does one usually set or not set middle grey on the curve? Wow, you have some detailed lessons on here. Going to check them out. Appreciate your clarity.
@@watzmaaname I used to adjust contrast without setting a middle gray point as well. My suggestion is to set it if you don’t want to bias your contrast on grades up and down. Personally I do set the point on all my grades.
@@Jeff_Lathrop Since we are working on DWG we are setting middle gray on that working space. Of course ACES will have a different point. As for on camera middle gray yes they vary depending on camera manufactures.
@@Jeff_Lathrop Totally agree! DWG is truly amazing. I only wish it was more integrated with VFX. It seems to me that ACES is for the most part the industry standard when sending things out for VFX.
I dunno man, at 3:45 it looks better before. The way you've truncated the dynamic range with the curves just makes it look flat, and you've lost shadow detail and depth.
@@_trismegistus The purpose of the video is to show the different tools to adjust contrast. I was pushing contrast on purpose to show the effect of the tools because UA-cam heavily compresses videos.
Awesome video man Yes please make a video on the correct exposure and 18% middle Grey please
Thank you so much. Continue like this for each tool.
@@poisonels8023 Thank you! More lessons are coming
thanks for this

Great tutorials, thank you. Would love to see video on how you set the Middle Gray.
Yes please.
Will do very soon
Very helpful! I've learnt so much and made some changes to my node tree.
@@jasonmulikita Thank you. Glad these videos are helpful!
Thanks for your content! You said you could do a video about correct exposure and middle gray. I think it would be great!
Great tutorials, thank you. Can you Provide a Log Footage for Practice 🤩

@@ColorGradeDigital Now I see it. My contrast would differ greatly from shot to shot. Great tip, thanks!
Very well summarised, the trick about the composite mode is priceless. I have one question, how does the custom curve affect the saturation?
@@elcasanelles5806 Well it will add saturation as well, unless you ungang the channels (YRGB) and work on the luminance Y channel exclusively.
plz make a video on middle grey
Really informative, I would keep using the S Curve since is more precise. Thanks a lot!
@@marcvigram Glad the video helped! The S Curve is definitely my preferred tool to adjust contrast as well.
please make a video on 80% middle gray
Great vidéo, but how to find the middle gray value for the pivot ?
Its really helpful.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial.
Please give us a video of how to create a film look in an easy good way
@@lensfilms4665 Really glad the videos are helpful! Will be doing a look lesson very soon
How do you find the 18% middle gray on the tone curves?
You have to know what it is for the camera the footage was shot on, you can look it up. 18% middle gray should fall somewhere between 35 and 50 ire
@@Jeff_Lathropsorry meant how to dial in exact ire you want to make a point on the tone curve
18% middle gray is different from 18% ire. 18% middle gray will be different depending on the camera but is usually somewhere between 35 and 50 IRE

@ColorGradeDigital another benefit of working in DaVinci wide gamut on multi cam is that unified middle grey point. Nice!
