"There was a raid on several houses in Umm Al-Sharayet and Kafr Aqab (neighbourhoods). We were walking in the Satah Marhaba (neighbourhood), then a (military) jeep arrived with a gun mounted on top. We hid, this gun fires automatically. I asked Muhammad to hide. I went behind a vehicle and he was next to me, then after a while, the military jeep arrived and some soldiers got out of it. There was gunfire and I saw that someone fell, but I did not know who it was. I did not know that this was my friend, I did not know it was Mohammad. After some time, we carried the body, I put him in the car and heard people saying 'Qatri, Qatri (Salhiya's nickname)' - only then did I realise that he was martyred."

    STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Palestinian mourners gathered on Thursday to mourn the loss of an 18-year-old who was killed by Israeli fire earlier in the day.
One Palestinian was killed and two were injured due to Israeli gunfire in al-Am'ari refugee camp near Ramallah, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The Palestinian WAFA news agency said Mohammad Salhiya was killed as a result of wounds caused by live bullets.
Salhiya's friend Abdul Hameed Rayhan was an eyewitness who was with the teenager during his final moments.
"There was gunfire and I saw that someone fell, but I did not know who it was. I did not know that this was my friend, I did not know it was Mohammad," Rayhan said.
Violence across the Israeli-occupied West Bank has surged since the Israel-Hamas war broke out last Oct. 7. Since then, at least 435 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli fire, according to Palestinian health officials.
The Palestinians seek an independent state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war.
