    PARTS:
    Cheap LED-strips: goo.gl/SmE8bi
    Aluminium Angles
    Carpet
    Velcro
    Wires
    Watch how we turn a plain, old and white staircase into a more modern one using only some LED strip lights, some carpet, and a couple of angles. If you're someone who likes interior design, or simply looking for stair makeover or stair light design inspiration, you should check out this makeover.
    This is the first episode of our new series: Speed Build! This is a format with no overlay talking, only snap clips of the progress throughout a project. Tell us what you think about it. This will not replace the good old how-to's and DIY projects. They're still coming!
    Tools used:
    Angle grinder
    Drill
    Soldering iron
    #makeover #led #diy
    Music:
    Artist: Sentient Pulse

    very cool, looks great, I just found your site because of the plexi art work you made, could you have used plexiglas for the edges instead of the aluminum strips? Still searching for people that are using plexi to light up and create with.
    Good work.

    (It is funny how you hold the angle grinder sometimes. I'm using such tools for about 30 years but I'd never cut with it flipped over. Haven't you ever experienced any kickback doing so?)

    Hey, i really hope you end up seeing this. I am trying to do the LED lights on the stairs the same way you did. What power supply did you use? Also, which LED strips did you use. Ive been trying to figure this out for weeks now! Please help. Awesome build!

    • @Nerdforge
      @Nerdforge  7 років тому +1

      Hello! Links for the LEDs are in the description, and this is the power supply: bit.ly/acdcsupply
      Thanks for your feedback!

  • @harrystech5637
    @harrystech5637 8 років тому +1

    Wow, That's Awesome! Maybe when stripping the wires, don't strip so much off (less likely to touch the wire next to it and short circuit) :)

    Great work on the steps but my only question would be about the velcro. Wouldn't that make a noticeable lump when walking on the stairs?

    • @Nerdforge
      @Nerdforge  8 років тому +5

      Thank you! For your question: yes, it is noticeable when you step on it, but it's placed at the back of every step so it's never really stepped on. Visually not visible :) Good question, thanks!

    Very good idea but think I would have glued the carpet down and trimmed those wires back before soldiering to the LEDs so not to cause a short anywhere.and as someone else in the comments said that if you used a different set of led's you could have had rgb and remote controlled/pulse in time with the music.ive subbed to you though.great work.

    • @alexanderpasnl
      @alexanderpasnl 7 років тому +2

      Exactly what I thought. I would have started with the instalment of the leds and I would have gone with a bit better quality of carpet, since this will never stay flat unless glued. Overall it does look quite nice though. That's brilliant of these videos. They give you ideas and you can learn from what do do and don't do.

  • @melissascott1931
    @melissascott1931 6 років тому

    what kind of plug did you use, i see the wire you used but can you tell me was it just a extension cord you spliced or some type of power cord,

    • @Nerdforge
      @Nerdforge  6 років тому

      Used a 12v DC adapter, and then soldered the LED strips to the positive and negative

  • @hockeyman1
    @hockeyman1 7 років тому +1

    does it works directly to a switch?

  • @ambertatelier376

    good idea.. but i dont really like to see all if those dots from the led strip.. maybe using aluminium uchannel to hide the led strips would've been nicer to remove all the dots..

      I’d probably go with white lights as well just because of past experience with RGB light having issues with individual colors burning out leaving you with a strip of lights that looks like crappy because the colors aren’t right.

    Very cool project, but careful how you cut the aluminum. A cut-off wheel is definitely not a good choice. See here: www.reddit.com/r/metalworking/comments/29x12u/advice_needed_on_cutting_aluminum/
