Thank you for this explanation. I tried to teach it to my stitch group and thoroughly confused everyone as they couldn’t see for my fingers. I pointed them to this video, which they agreed was clear and precise, so more followers for you.
Thank you, I always wondered how to do this! Once again you have done an excellent job demonstrating and giving lots of helpful tips! I love your videos!
I remember this technique from an embroidery exhibition I visited years ago and was impressed with it. I vaguely recalled how to do it (basically the # of threads at the start), so I'm grateful for this tuition. Thank you.
Sarah, thank you SO much. I was ready to abandon this stitch after trying it many times . The wretched mirror always popped out! I stumbled on your tutorial and voila; it's working for me. I am so pleased. Now I can get on making the brooch.
Thanks for the video. Funny story...When I was child, I remember having some kind of cloth with shisha mirrors and kept feeling I need to Windex them to get the dust off. Found myself feeling the same in the beginning of this video with the cloth you showed us. Think I'm gonna have to get over having "dusty shishas"...I think they are par for the course. :)
Feel free to dust your mirrors if you want to McCoeur! I would probably avoid putting any kind of cleaning solution on them though as it might get onto your thread...
thank u somuch. it is veryhelpful. I am a fashion designer student. I was not able to understand this embroidery at college. but u helped ad explain step by step thank u so much
Thank you Sarah , I totally enjoy learning from you , your teaching is very very good and explain every step clearly and also provide the reason why the stitch IS done certain way , you are a terrific teacher!
Thank you Wendy! I have to remember not to pull any funny faces...:) We are working hard on these and feel we are improving all of the time so hopefully it will show! More coming this week....
I’d like to get into this, but I’m not into quilting. I just bought my first learn to embroider kit. I don’t want to go out and buy fabric. I won’t be random enough. Right?
If you look carefully you can see that I'm making a buttonhole stitch but if you have another method that works for you then great. There are lots of different and beautiful ways to stitch down shisha mirrors; this is just one method taught to me by an Indian embroiderer but I have lots of other ways I like to use too...
Does anyone know what the stitch is, that the gold/yellow crosses (or pointy woven looking stuff) is above the mirrors in the example piece in the beginning?
Hi tanish reddy, this is the stand: ua-cam.com/video/ElcnWWixmJ8/v-deo.html You can buy it here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html
Excellent tutorial. This is practically buttonhole stitch/eyelet stitch (broderie anglaise) and the one we do for Richelieu. But I had seen another method of embroidering the mirrors, where the framework is the same, but the visible stitch itself has a double loop. See here: ua-cam.com/video/U_fgZD960Xo/v-deo.html. Probably both are used? I also found a tutorial by an Indian lady for three different techniques including embellishments. Cannot understand her explanation, but it's easy to understand if you put the video on slower motion. ua-cam.com/video/jOhjBCaXE2I/v-deo.html
This is Pakistani embroidery from th province of sindh...we have exquisite stitches here...thnks for teaching it to the world.

Always wondered how it was done!! Congratulations! You are such a pro! Thanks! Love and sunshine from Costa Rica!

So much confusion here...see indian's videos for easy methods in mirror stitching
Really super mam.
Which thread is used..??
I used a cotton perle thread Angel in this video. It's a nice strong thread to use for mirrors that doesn't untwist, but you can use other threads!
