My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!
Be Happy, Be Creative, Be Yourself and BE POSITIVE!
I miss my grandpa too. Im 60, almost 61, and I miss that man everyday.
As long as we speak their name they live.
You bring honor to your ancestor
Agapita, you are so right about speaking their names. I say "thanks, mom."
Matt you really need to change Lucky's name to Gizmo cos she's definitely got gremlins 😂!! 🐾🐾🇬🇧
" If you're going through Hell, keep going."-Churchill Well done Matthew. Thanks grandpa.Yay, well done!🥰
Matthew...,you made me cry with that final shot. You know they are so proud of you.
Sorry I wasn't able to make the premier. As you say- it is truly gratifying t to fix your own vehicles. You continue to amaze 😉
Don’t apologize! I’m glad you enjoyed it Sarah 😀
Excellent diagnosing and fix! I'm sure your grandfather is very proud of the capable man he helped create.
It was so good to see Stella get right into her food! It was strange to see Penny not as enthusiastic about food.
The title of your vlog made me laugh. And kinda tempting fate... how completely fabulous that you were able to troubleshoot and get the wipers working properly. Your grandpa would be so proud of you! For whatever it's worth, I'M proud of you. Well done, you.
Purple is definitely your color. It’s my favorite Dixon on you. Cheers. Give the kitties a kiss and hug for me I love them.
Good for you! Grandpa is surely looking down beaming with pride at his grandson. ❤❤❤
OMG so happy that you were able to fix it without buying a new part 👏👏👏 You are a McGyver
Thank you Grandpa ... Love that! 👍🤗😇
Ugh I’m crying. The last shot got me. 💔
You are quite the mechanic! Your Grandpa taught you well!
As always, DIY supermechanic gets it done!!!🛠 Thanks for sharing!
Dude, Use the Cane its to keep the pressure off the Disk. Its not making you weaker its to help until the next step.
Way to go Matt ! your the man, I'd lose it or get so frustrated I'd freak out, Like you tell us, stay Positive you do that daily, Thanks for keeping the videos coming, I watch them every day after work, It Makes the end of the day worth it ! Take Care of yourself and the Kitties ❤❤❤
I have my cane in my jeep just in case I need it. I actually have it on the floor to the left of my driver’s seat. It’s out of the way & fits in there very nicely. Love you Matt!! Tell Penny & Stella I said meow meow 😉❤️❤️❤️
Hey Dixon and CF! ❤️ I have a daughter with that. It’s sucks ! (the air out of their lungs) 😢
Grandpa successfully taught the boy Matthew to become a self sufficient man!👨🔧🚐 Great vlog dear friend!🌟💞
Dang! The ending made me cry. Glad you have very good memories of your Grandpa.
Good work on fixing your wipers Matt grandpa taught you well ❤
Best episode ever! What a suspense...I got so invested that my morning coffee got cold while watching as I forgot to drink it. 😄
Wow, I never knew wipers could be so technical...lol...thank you, even I feel as though I could fix my wipers, if this happened to my car after seeing this video, plus it made me laugh also, you have a great sense of humour.
Your grandfather is smiling on you now keep up the great work 😊❤.
The adventures are ongoing! Nice repair, and you saved a pack of $$.
So impressed with your skills at sorting this out, Matthew! Well done.
Grand job on the wipers, isn’t it Grand how if you take the time to diagnose the problem, and then awesome when your able to fix it 👍👍😆😆 your Grampa is beaming down on you with much pride and love ❣️❣️❣️👍👍👍 what we’re you looking at at the end of the video??
The memorial forest wall of names where my grandfathers is listed
If there is one thing I've learned over the years is, NEVER EVER ask the universe "what next " because it will gladly accommodate. My son used to say that and he has since stopped as well.😕😢
I'm learning a lot from your misfortunes (automotive) , sorry for the bad luck, but thank you for being a great teacher. 👍❤🍁🐾🐾
You are so good at diagnosing problems.
Love your videos. Never thought I’d be so entertained by watching windscreen wipers being repaired but I am! Great vid as always ❤
Yay! Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it - I try to make the mundane a little more entertaining
I know aye ( watching windshield wipers) 😅
I absolutely agree with you Matt, I hate paper straws🤢 I bought myself glass straws & I love them & keep many in my car & also have several in my house😊
I got compostable straws, made from bamboo, I think and I keep them in my car for my lattes.
Way to go with the wiper situation! I have a senior cat that sometimes throws up his dry food, I think the pieces are too big. We might give the Now a shot to see if he does better with it. Thanks Matt!
I'm not a mechanic but i'm definitely learning a lot from you.
Thanks for all the laughs in this video. If I counted I’d lose count from laughing 😂
Good to see you in good spirits in the midst of universal adventures
Grandpa and grandson MattGyver! Brilliant. 🌼🍀🌼
I still enjoy your videos from the first day I saw you in your orange shirt being interviewed by chrome.I loved your sense of humour and still do keep it up Matt.from Newzealand.
LOL I couldn't agree more about paper straws!!
I enjoy your video's so funny. What else is going to go wrong with lucky. Love your cats. I had a cat a while back that looked exactly like Stella color wise. Stay safe.
Good afternoon, Matt, Penny, and Stella! I hope all is well with you on this beautiful day!! ❤
Thanks for the vlog. Wow, Matthew- you have some mad skills and determination - whatever Universe throws at you- you have a solution- so impressive and inspiring. Honors to grandpa- you helped create an amazing guy.
Matthew, you are so very special. You always make me laugh with your antics. Very glad you got it worked out, Thank you for being here..
Were you going to see grandpa on that wall? Thanks for your grandpa's service if I'm right. Hope you, Stella and Penny had a good rest of your day. Love y'all. Hey from Georgia.
It’s not a veteran wall, it’s a memorial Forest - instead of being buried trees were planted for them. The wall lists all the names of those who passed away by year
@@VanlifePLUS Thanks for the info. That's amazing 👏
Turning the wipers on...because you can ❤🎉😂🍀 and at the end, a good conversation with your grandparents. 💝
You know your Grandpa is so proud of you💞
So awesome! You figured it out and fixed it! Some mad skillz you inherited from your grandpa! I imagine him beaming with pride!
Good on yah for trying out a fix! Hecking around & finding out is a tried and true method for any kind of technical support. :) A lot of modern electronics are fairly resilient, and a clean up & dry off should keep it going for a while.
i can so relate to how u feel wen things aren't running correctly.
Matt the mechanic. Great repair on the mother board Glad them blades are behaving again.
Tool time with Matt. :)
Sorry Tim Allen! :)
Sometimes fixes just seem too simple. But if it works, it works! 👍👍👍
Wow what an episode, the ending had me in tears
The best was when that wiper went all the way over to the side. “I’m just going to need a minute “ 😂
Yes we all can learn van repairs thanks to those like Matt for sharing on any and all repairs live in real time on UA-cam.
My 1981 econoline is evidence that as our vans age they require regular maintenance and ongoing repairs.
Cheers.
Rob
I love that you show how things work and how to fix things. thank you!
Glad to see you walking better
You are an inspiration Matthew and so lucky to have had an awesome Grandpa 🎶🌞😎🚙🌲
Thank you GRAND PAW ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well done. The pulse duty circuit should always be dry. The circuit board's Microcontroller (brain) hates water.
Whoop Whoop you fixed it. Well done. Xx
That was your guardian angel guiding your hand, Matt...fer sure! >' '
I love it when people send products directly from the company. Oat box!!!
Funny when they put things like twenty days for delivery what they mean is they have twenty days to start the send to you which will take 6 to 8 weeks after the twenty days.
❤️🇨🇦
100% 😆
Absolutely brilliant McGyvering that wiper situation 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Purrs to Penny and Stella from my 18 year old senior Kitty Lace. 😻😻
Hi Matthew, Stella and Penny. Hope your day is going well. Yes the Now food is awesome.
Love the humor when stuff in lucky goes haywire
Thank you for the laughs. You are a funny man, and smart. Love Penny n Stella ❤❤
Plus I liked how you dried the board! "Genius "
Glad you were able to fix Lucky. I watched. Be glad you can fix things saves you money.
You're the man Matthew!!! I knew you could fix it...I said thanks to your Grandpa and then you said it. Awesome!!!!
Great video Matt. Good troubleshooting! Half way through the video I was remembering how my Brother didn't have wipers on his 51 International Travellor on the drive back from Vallejo, CA (to Miami). Both in TX, and MS I can remember seeing him with his head on the window cussing. Hey, isn't it nice to visit those who have passed? I do quite often.... its like therapy. Bless
I had a similar problem with my Jeep dash lights. They would not dim just full brightness all the time. I went to the junkyard where you can pick your parts and picked up a used multifunction switch from another Jeep. It was a 15-minute job to replace the complete assembly containing both stalks on the steering column. The dimmer switch is back to work. Good job on the diagnostics for your wipers.
Forget Mr. Fix it ! MATT Can Fix It !! Great Job !!! Aww Loved that final shot ! 🥰💖
I love it when a plan comes together!
So glad you fixed it Matt, I wish I'd had someone to teach me mechanics. I have a car journey burned into my memories from almost 30 yrs ago, I had my young son asleep in the back with my husband who had severe food poisoning, I had a hundred and twenty miles to drive home in the pouring rain and my windscreen wiper broke, as in hanging on by a thread. I drove a good 60 miles (before it stopped raining) with my arm out the window and my wiper in my hand, we laugh about it now but boy, was it stressful.
"Can we fix it? Yes, we can!" - Move over Bob the Builder. Here comes Matt the Mechanic. 😆😉
Wow!! I learn a lot from watching you and it is pretty Cool, when you can do thing's on your own, your Grandpa left a legacy of knowledge with you! He'd be VERY proud of you!! ❤️🤗, And doing All This sh## with a sore back/ leg, awesome vlog and then you had to do it, ( lol), made me cry at the end!, but, was a beautiful way to end that!! Grateful, Blessed, to have had him in your life!!🙏🏻 I truly do wait for your thumbnails to come up, and can watch another episode of the Mathew Allen show!! ❤️be safe, and,, lov/ to Stella and Penny!!! 💕
Hi Matt. Things certainly have been interesting for you lately. Here's hoping interest has peaked and things calm down! Have a blessed day.
Wish I could fix car things like you can! I miss my grandfathers, too, but they taught me other things - car lessons would have been really helpful, though! I crack up when you talk to, and about, your cats. I have one like this 🐈⬛.
Hey Matt am sure that are getting annoyed lol but you are lucky to have had time to your grandfather and if I’m not mistaken, I think you want to say thank you to him at the end of your video 🍀👍 right now🙏rip
Good job Matt. Always love the little victories.
19:17 i didn't mean to laugh, but your face 😂🤣
You are supposed to laugh! 😁
Ya great job, it is so good when you can fix your own things. I am learning a lot! Thank you Matthew 😊
True story everyday is a school day cheers bud
Your windshield wiper escapade was hysterical. Not for you I’m sure
But it gave me a real belly laugh
That’s the kinda stuff that would happen to me. Thanks for the laughs
Karen from Florida 🌴💕
Awesome!!! The ending though legendary..
Awesome fix!
Wow super cool you fixer it. We are happy for you. Grand-parents must be proud. You should be too. Love the shirt colour looks great on you. Take care, cane or not lol. Sending good vibes and love.
good man-you have your two friends-cats/cool an take care/thanks much
I would be tempted to find the hot wire to the wipers and insert a simple on/off switch in it ..and bring that switch into cab..rough and ready but will work ..
Quick temporary solution
Jumper wires with a switch to the one fuse 47 I think you said.
Long enough to go from fuse box into drivers seat so you can turn off and on as you drive.
Hopefully this helps.
Might be better to just get wiper assembly from wrecker.
I had a problem with my cats eating to much dry food/ carbs so wet only my little kitty Chiquita, who become huge is now down to a normal size. Our vet said since she stays inside she’s not burning out those carbs, so just stick with wet food.
hi Matt, just wanted to say, so impressed with your tech skills, knowledge, and perseverance you amaze me. congratls on working wipers, mission accomplished and i hope you saved some cash. always enjoy. take care of your ailing back. thank you once again. nice to see spring has slowly arrived in YYC.
Hey just wanted to say I never comment on these but I loved your attitude and whole take on your van letting you down. I just have to say you must be a very fun person to be around. I hope you don’t ever change and keep the great attitude.
I would taken a chance at a salvage yard (junk yard) for that wiper control.. chevy vans are known for electrical issues. I know, I have one..thanks for sharing..
Clever man, well done great job
Another #vanlifewin thanks to your grandpa 👍👍
I threw out my Dixxon Tags before I knew they were stickers. 😞
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I will not give this comment a heart on principle…..but I still appreciate the support
Sorry but I had to laugh when you said you had to get your jammies off and then proceeded to say if you couldn't get them off and a penetrant couldn't get them off you would get the proper tool. I knew you didn't mean you'd have to do that for your jammies, but I couldn't stop laughing thinking that's how you get your jammie pants off lol!
Some people’s kids
@@VanlifePLUS I'm sorry Matt, just my sick sense of humor!
loved the parting shot
Amazing as always Matthew
I love your videos😊
Thank you Karen!
Haha- you might want to try a windshield motor from a older model, and hook it up and run the wires off the battery, I love using Rain X - it works Great, but if you get splashed, wow, good Luck 🍀 sounds like you need it.
