    Linhof Technikas are perhaps the best made camera of their day. There aren't any cameras in their class that compete.

    Exactly the kind of instruction video I have been looking for. A clear and concise video showing all essential operations and functions without unnecessary explanations. Excellent!

    think you’ll ruin your rails pulling your front standard out without depressing the two notches on the left of the base plate.

    • @andyvan5692
      @andyvan5692 Рік тому

      yes, and to keep them paralell to the front standard, you should lock focus rail, and retract the upper carrage until it bridges the hinge of the base board, that way everything stays "on the rails" and aligned where it's meant to be, as if wear occurs it adds swing unexpectedly without you realising it, like on mono-rails, you opperate one lock, then the other to keep the std straight, as if you lock at once the std may be kinked of to one side.

    also for the 65mm lens you NEED to get the bed lowered, to get it out of shot, by pulling the bars back and dropping the bed, and use front tilt all the way back to level the standard with the rear (this is what clears the bed from the shot, and levels the composition).

    At 4:47 you are pulling out the front standard;
    hit the rail and damaging it.

    Linhof was not messing around when they designed the Master Technika. She’s a beauty. Why do so many Schneider K lenses have “schneideritis”? Those bubbles around the inner barrel?

    I think you pull out the lens standard out on the main railing in a wrong way - you shall move the top part of the main rail closer to the "closed" standard for smooth move. This prevent excessive wear of the delicate rails. However most users do it like you - me including for a long time. Correct me if I´m wrong. xxx

      @@jamesjacocks6221 not really, as they are NOT made (at least the early models) anymore!- so parts are a rarity, as mostly you have to ask a good one for a transplant {it often is fatal for the donor one :-( , delicate screws, washers, bellows parts,tear of letherette during servicing}, or things like the leatherette deteriorate, and some glues, materials are scarce, esp. in these day's of covid-19, limited transport by plane/ship, and lengthy delays if you can source the parts, and can "quarantine" them.

    • @jamesjacocks6221
      @jamesjacocks6221 3 роки тому

      Andy, I've used Technikas since the Seventies and I haven't noticed a shortage of parts. This is perhaps because Technikas never wear out, they only suffer the handling of fools. In any event, you may have problems getting parts but they are available, covid or no covid. Impatience has wrecked more instruments and machinery than all the other accidents combined. What is your Linhof? I presently have a 6x9cm Vb matched set and a 4x5 V. Both are nearly as old as I am (not really) and both still can shoot with precision, RF and all. Best.@@andyvan5692

      @@andyvan5692 Andy, I know how you feel. I grew up in Australia. 1992 I relocated my studio to Norway. So in my early 40s I was starting life again. Everything I could imagine wanting in photographic supplies was a train journey away, Hasselblad, Leica, Linhof .. Photokina was the place to be, until digital imaging killed off so much of interest. The last Photokina I visited a few years back was depressing. It has shut down indefinitely. I have visited Linhof in Munich a few times, to get equipment serviced and buy a few items while there. I was talking to a principle there about the company and noted their absence from Photokina. He said they were actually busy with local trade fairs, and had a solid following.The senior repairs/service guy reiterated this, citing much more contact with us photographers, .. with hands on demos and discussion about the equipment and get a lot of productive feedback about the products. I'm based in SE Asia now, which in someways is more remote than Australia, especially as there is virtually no knowledge of such equipment. Australia, landscape-wise is magnificent, but film is overpriced. Melbourne, until the 80's was home to major establishments such as Agfa, Kodak and ILFORD. What a luxury that was. Linhof also had a distributor in Melbourne. I went to a photo industry trade show when the Technikardan 23 was launched. omg ... It was being referred to as "The Hasselblad with Movements" ... What an absolute gem!!
      There is an active fraternity of large-format photographers in Australia which you may well be part of. For me, Thailand has proximity to Europe, being a shorter flight, and the cheaper rent if living out in the provinces. There are pros and cons everywhere.

    one thing to note, the roll film back has a metal sheet on the outside, this is what the Grafflock back is holding onto. To use the round part of the "rotating back", one simply uses another roll film back (has the silver ring on the lens side, and NO extending parts), this also allows "reducing backs" to mount, like this 4x5 back on a 5x7 technika, or the Technika based Kardan or color, and this "format back" is connected on the back of this adaptor, and all using the diagonal sliding locks, increasing the film types that can be used on these cameras; or to save costs, for instance using 4x5 film in a 5x7, as you have the 5x7, but the job calls for 4x5, or you just want the "sweet spot" of the lenses coverage.

    My god, there's not a single part on this particular Linhof that isn't crying out for repair or replacement. Amazed it still works with every glass piece scratched and every leather part shrunken or cracked... If this was a video for a sales listing you'd be scamming the buyer unless all parts that will need replacing mentioned and priced half a good condition one.
