- The Schooner Brilliant (a.k.a Christine-Margaret, Logan James, and Thomas Hoyne) was built alongside the Red Lion by Ferd Nimphius in Neshkoro, Wisconsin. Charles Kuralt did a special feature on the construction of the wooden vessels in 1984. Douglas Turnbull and Charles "Jerry" Hodlmair commissioned the schooner Brilliant to be built by Nimphius Boat Works.
His son Alex is an absolute artist to this day with a wood boat. This is an absolutely great video!
My grandfather skippered the Red Lion while it was in Milwaukee, and I had the opportunity (as an ungrateful 6 year-old) to sail with her and the crew on a few occasions. Some time later we visited the Nimphius shop while on vacation. I never imagined I would find footage like this this.
what a great video i really enjoyed this history thanks dfor sharing again
Watched this as a kid, I still like boats!
Wow 10 bucks a hour for that kind of quality
The history is pretty close. The name 'Christine-Margaret' was actually the name of Doug Turnbull's (boat architect) mother and daughter. The name was changed by Jerry Hodlmair when he purchased Doug's interest in the vessel. Unfortunately, Doug came down with terminal cancer and died shortly after the boat was launched.
@davidminlne My guess would be in the winter of 1984-1985. The Christine-Margaret was launched in the Fall of 1985.
This schooner Brilliant had her name changed to Logan James and is now being chartered out of Rhode Island as the Thomas Hoyne.
According to previous posts, the Red Lion wrecked not many years after her launch in the mid-80's.
Just nice.
Very interesting

If anybody wonders what true art is, just take a look at this video......
