I'm in my seventies. I've been training for around 55 years. And, I thoroughly enjoy Ryan's vids and commentary. He brings a lot to the quality of his videos with the science, experience and great wit he demonstrates. I recommend him to my friends regularly.
I have no issue with Ryan changing his stance on stuff like Drag Curls or adjusting his view on partial reps. He's doing a boat load of research and then testing it himself, if his opinion evolves, that's a good thing. He isn't flip flopping for views/clicks.
It will also change the bigger you get. The body will adapt to certain movements and amounts of volume in which they will eventually need to be tweaked
This is a 100% honest post. I have been working out for over 20 years. Followed every lifting protocol and diet you can imagine. Never made much progress in strength or hypertrophy, but I always enjoyed working out. A couple of years ago I came across Ryan’s videos, and started basing everything on his principles. I still have not made much progress, but I still enjoy working out, and his videos are hilarious.
Going to failure the first couple times are the hardest. I’ve been doing failure sets for about two years now and I’ll never go back. Not going to failure feels incomplete. Ryan, thank you for your deep dives into the science and methods that work the best. I appreciate you changing what you feel is best and showing us. I can’t say that I’m an expert but now it feels like I get it. Between you, HOH, Jeff nippard, athleanx, the studies and my own personal lifting experience - I got it. In fact, this video was something I suspected would be coming. Stretched, slow concentric and eccentric reps to safe failure is pretty much how my workouts go and what I preach to others (I’m also a trainer). Now it’s about finding the optimal stretch locations for all the muscle groups and the regional spots within them. Ryan, I’m in awe at how you put this together. I like things to make sense and you helped me get it. Seriously thank you. I got sober about 2 years ago from alcohol and all I did was watch your videos and laugh and hope I could take control of my life. I did man, and I started taking my lifting seriously. These videos made the difference. Thank you.
Hey Ryan i have to say thank you to you and your knowledge and for taking the time to teach. I have turned 50 and with severe shoulder injuries from martial arts and because of your you tube clips i have been able to put on more muscle in 8 months than i ever could in my younger days. Thank you again for your hard work and experiments on yourself to find the best ways to train.
That's awesome! Been doing any of his programs?? I'm thinking about starting one. I'm turning 40 in a few months and want to be in the best shape of my life
I need to tell you, as much as I had a desire to put muscle on this old body, I found sitting through videos difficult to take. I did, anyway until, I caught one of your videos four months ago before I knew it I had sat through over 10 minutes. Not only was I formed, I was entertained and I left feeling. I was better than before I started watching. Kudos to you for the research and investigative work that you do. I love the dry humor that you inject into your presentation. Many times is just playing laugh out loud funny. I turned 70 last month, and up to this point , my training is totally natural. At my next check up I’m going to ask my doctor about TRT. Thank you, Ryan, for your expertise and for the great service you do for people looking to improve themselves.
Only point I'd like to add regarding the drag curls being crap are they can be used to your advantage if you have shoulder problems or pains. they reduce front delt involvement which can reduce pain.
To think ryan went from bicep curls to drag curl superset, which was one of my biggest most painful pumps but to completely say not to do them Any more is def coming full circle
