  • Relatively quick lesson on how the pressure regulator also regulates converter charge as well as how it can affect converter lockup.

I had to get that Sonnax line to lube valve, 3800 Yank stall and the converter was dragging so hard it would pull through the brakes at 900-1200 rpm. Good video here , should of drilled that hole when I had the trans apart , live and learn

I added the sonnax valve and still have dragging issues. I’ll try raising the idle a bit but if that doesn’t help, is my only other options opening the trans up?

Would any issues be caused by using the sonnax valve in combination with drilling the line to lube hole?

How much pressure should an 80e have for charge pressure when the line pressure is fixed. I've seen kits that pin the converter limit value shut and also converter companies that give you converter limit value springs for higher charge pressures. Are you reaching your target pressure by drill size on the line to lube hole?

Charge pressure in a 4L80E is complicated and controlled by several things.
We're working with the regulator valve to ensure adequate flow mostly.

I am doing a non-lock converter in my build. I've installed the Sonnax valve after drilling the hole in the pump. I didn't realize the Sonnax valve done the same thing. Do I need to plug the hole in the pump and use the Sonnax valve or leave the hole in the pump and go back to the stock regulator valve? Or can I leave the Sonnax and the hole in together???
