- Finished version of our Fontana Dam overflow video. I spent more time on the audio for this one than I ever have on any previous video...probably all of them combined! LOL Hope it makes you feel like you're really there!

I’ve been going to Fontana dam with my brother and dad since the early 70s they used to have a little trolley that went down the side of the dam and you could go inside and take a tour we stayed at the Fontana Village of course PS awesome video
Yeah my wife grew up here and went on those tours as a kid. Shame they closed it off to the public. 😑
Killer video, can't imagine what it's like to experience in person with the wind and noise. Know they post release dates for Cheoah, do they do the same for Fontana...have never been able to find.
Not really, releases at Fontana are not a scheduled thing, and pretty rare. They only do it when the lake level gets too high.
I never knew there were TWO dams. I thought that Harrison Ford jumped off Fontana. Now I know...thanks !
All the time's we've been there, I've never seen it this full to the point of releasing this much water. Awesome work bro!!! See you in the spring!!!

I’d love to see footage from a drone flown down into Fontana’s tubes, from both the gate and discharge ends, for an inspection. That’d be cool.
I saw them open the gates in the mid-80's after TVA had performed maintenance on the flood gates. We found out about it the day before and my Mom went painting at the viewing area on the other side. Later my Dad and I went down to Cheoha.
This is awesome! Can you get some footage of the water going down the flume at Fontana. I have always wanted to see what that looks like.

They're not using those spillway for this, so there is nothing to see. This is flowing down the smaller sluice gate between them that is internal and hidden.

Nothing gets by you Stan! Hence the quotation marks around "jumps". A dummy was thrown over the edge. Rumor is it was never recovered.

Or a hike the Appalachian Trail that was quite a sight to walk across I had a great time in the Smoky Mountains I was so nice the first day this is in April is like 80 degrees the next morning I woke up and my tent was frozen solid and nice we had an ice storm overnight
