Tamron Hall Is Dorothy From “The Wiz” For Halloween

- #TamFam, you know we always go BIG for Halloween and season 5 is no different! Welcome to “Tamron’s Hall-O-Ween Extravaganza.” We transformed the set in honor of 1974 Broadway classic, “The Wiz,” which later birthed the 1979 classic film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Tamron has taken on the role of Dorothy and we’re joined by the cast of 2023 reimagination of the musical. Deborah plays Glinda the Good Witch, Avery Wilson plays the scarecrow, and we meet the rest of the cast. Trust us, this is an episode that you’ll play on repeat! Happy Halloween!

I just want to share this little bit of my life history. My mom took us I forgot who all it was but it was like cousins and a few others that has spent the night at my house. That afternoon she takes us to a black owned movie theater in Milwaukee where I grew up and we went to go see The Wiz. Now as a child I did not overstand the importance of this movie and I thought it was a spoof and I didn't like it. I thought it was poorly done and it wasn't at the quality of the Hollywood production of The Wizard of Oz. Now this is me as a child then in high school my sophomore year we do The Wiz. Because my freshman year we do a play that was original done by the students called what will it take. And it was phenomenal because it had breakdancing in it and I was a b-boy. But the following year to do The Wiz I still didn't appreciate it. My freshman year an HBCU Cheyney University with a whole nother perspective or a set of eyes I watch The Wiz again and now I'm able to see the Brilliance of of Quincy Jones along with the nuances of us as heavily melanated skin-toned star studded cast and they were our stars. I had never felt so inspired and proud of being heavily melanated in skin tone but watching that and then realizing how I didn't appreciate it when my mother had taken me as a child nursing its relevance because the measurement of Brilliance in excellence was that of a white standard. Later on I got to see it on Broadway and let me tell you though I like the movie better because it encapsulates a Time in a moment that takes me back to my childhood and all the things I mentioned above. But seeing the play put me in another place of Forward Thinking for us as a collective. We are brilliant we are excellent we are top-notch in whatever we put our minds to. Now I don't know if many you remember there was another part to the Wiz I can't remember the title it had to do with Oz himself as a sequel to The Wiz it was phenomenal just like they did the one where it's just the witches from The Wizard of Oz the succession to help younger Generations know and grow well I feel the same thing about the new generation of this production of The Wiz. Prayerfully it takes newer Generations into growing and knowing and loving self as I did or had to come into the fruition of man great great production hopefully they have a very long run and kudos to Broadway for a revamp or revitalization because when it does well on Broadway eventually the rest of the nation will see it

I watched this episode and was blown away. Then today with the little fellow with meningitis bought me to tears. I just recently retired and will not miss this show at 11:00 AM EST in Virginia. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this inspiring show and Tamron is so beautiful!!!!

Some don't know the origins of Halloween. So just be aware of that. I celebrated it until I was 9 yrs old and my dad told us we couldn't. It was innocence on my part just wanting to have fun and be a kid. My mom didn't even understand my fathers reasoning. It wasn't until I was 20 + that I learned the history and now i don't celebrated but I understand most don't know the history. There is a lot of holidays we wouldn't celebrate if we knew the origins.
