  • In this video I guide you through the process of installing the Kingston SUV500 M.2 MSATA SSD drive in a Stone branded laptop. We also compare the startup and transfer speeds of the new SSD versus the mechanical hard drive.
The laptop shown in this video is a Stone NT310-H with the model number W550SU1.
Clevo and Stone laptops are basically the same - so this video steps should apply to both brands.
This process will be very similar for most other laptop brands as well as the M.2 slot is generally in an easily accessible location underneath.
I am upgrading this laptop to an SSD in order to deliver better performance and make the machine a lot faster in general. I chose to also reformat the hard drive and use this as a second drive for file storage. You could remove this if you wanted to, or do as I did and use it for more internal storage.
This is my third and final video installment on the upgrades I have performed to this laptop.
I have already created videos doing a BIOS update for this laptop here: • How To Update The BIOS...
Plus another video doing an Intel Celeron to Core i5 processor upgrade here: • Upgrading The CPU On A...
    WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
    - The laptop you are going to be installing the SSD into
    - The new SSD you want to install in your laptop (Kingston SUV500 240GB in my case)
    - A small Philips / Pozi / cross head screwdriver to remove the bottom cover
    - Preferably the latest BIOS update installed for your laptop (optional)
The drive speed benchmark software shown in this video is Crystal Disk Mark.
It is available free to download from the website here: crystalmark.info/en/download/
All laptops do vary and you probably won't be able to copy this video exactly unless you happen to have an identical laptop of the same model. It should very much aid as an overview of the basic process however for any laptop make and model.

What is your overall opinion on this laptop? I want to use one for light gaming, is it good enough? I really enjoy your videos and your expertise, I just subbed.

      Hi, Thanks for the sub!
It's a pretty good all round laptop, especially if you put an SSD in it and have the i5 processor. Quite thin and light, the hinges can feed a bit flimsy but they are adequate I would say.
Regarding gaming that would entirely depend on what kind of games you are looking to play on it. Bear in mind that it does not have a dedicated graphics card - only the integrated Intel graphics from the processor.
You would have to check the system requirements for any games you wanted to run, It should handle Minecraft, some light MMOs and older titles, etc.. fine though.
      Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Are you able to do a tutorial for upgrading the RAM in the laptop?

Hey, I can't at the moment unfortunately as my niece now has this laptop. It was to be a Christmas present for her so I did all the upgrade videos last year before handing it over. However if you simply remove the bottom cover as I do in this video, you can see the RAM modules. All you do to release them is push the clips on either side out slightly, simultaneously, and the memory module should lift/spring/pop up slightly allowing you to slide it out. The process for reinstalling new RAM in its place is to slot the modules back in like the others came out, and gently apply pressure and push them back down into the spring/clip latches.
Hope this is somewhat helpful! --Nathan.
