I have some Candlelight and Wine songs I recorded in the mid 1980's on CHFI that I posted, but I don't know the names of them or the artists. If you know the name of these songs I'd really appreciate it ... :-)
Does anyone know the name of the song that was the opener for this show, in the early to mid, 80's. I can hear it in my head but I cannot remember the name of it.
Take Me Home was a song by Tom Waits sung by Crystal Gayle on the soundtrack for the 1982 film One From The Heart. The longer single version is from her 1983 Album Cage The Songbird
Can you tell me if they put out the "Candlelight and Wine Album?" I had this as a kid, on cassette tape, and absolutely, adored it but my younger brother got hold of the tape and taped over it and I lost the entire thing. It truly, broke my heart, as I truly, honestly, adored this collection of songs, most from the late 60s and early to mid 70s I think. I've been over, 40 years now, trying to find another and even, trying to find an uploaded version of it on UA-cam, to absolutely, no success, at all, what-so-ever. Exceedingly disheartening, as I'd dearly, love to have this collection of songs again. The jacket had this little fairy, fellow in a tree and there was a candle to one side of him if I remember correctly. I still, have the jacket actually, just not on me at the moment. Man, I had that cassette tape worn out, listening to it so much. Loved to listen to it on nice, warm, summer, days, on my bed, with the window open, and the sound of the ocean braking against the rocks, out in the bay. ABSOLUTE, TOTAL, HEAVEN!!!! One of my all time, favourite tapes and collection of songs, and my stupid, careless, brother had to rob it from me. That tape had such an effect on me that over 40/almost 45 years later I STILL, miss it. Man, I can't tell you how much I'd love to get that collection of songs again. All My Retro/Vintage Best. Out.
Ivan - I feel your pain. I had a collection of Candlelight and Wine albums in the early 1980’s that my mother threw out after I moved out of my parents home. Thankfully, I got most of the albums back by visiting vintage used record stores when they were still around in the early 1990’s. I’ve been listening to CHFI since the mid 1960’s, My mother had 1050 CHUM radio playing during the early 1960’s with bobbysock hits always playing in our home. By the mid 1960’s, she could no longer stand hippie Rock and switched to 680 CHFI / CFTR, where Don Parrish and Candlelight and Wine was a staple in our home in the evenings during the later 1960’s and 1970’s. I remember Don Parrish had a stroke in the 1980’s but carried on with Candlelight and Wine from his hospital bed. Shortly after, the program was cancelled, as Don Parrish was physically unable to continue on and he passed away shortly after. There are lots of vintage Candlelight and Wine albums available on www.discogs.com including your favourite double vinyl from 1978 (with the fairies the cover) www.discogs.com/Various-The-Candlelight-Wine-Album/release/3998694
@@JustaGroovyGuy : That's so sad. Sounds like this man was extremely, devoted to what he did. Wow. Sounds like your mom had the same reaction to 60s Pop Music as I have toward rap and hip-hop today, which I absolutely, hate with a bitter passion. Utter, total and complete, gutter trash is what I consider the vast majority of it being, and I think it's dominated pop music for quite, long enough as is. Which only, makes my desire to get this collection of songs again, that much more intense. This particular collection was called "Beautiful" actually, the Candlelight and Wine Album - Beautiful, and yes, it had two fairies sitting on the branch of a tree with a candle in the center. Thank God I had enough sense to keep the jacket even though I lost the tape itself. I've already, heard each, individual, song several times now, over UA-cam here, but have yet to come across that particular collection of songs together. There's a bet of a back story to this that makes it more meaningful still. You see, my dad bought that tape for me but the things is, he could not read so thought the tape was of religious music and I was trying my best to be a good, religious, boy at the time. Well, as soon as I saw it and the songs listed on it, I realized it was not religious at all, but the first time I sat down to listen to it I fell madly in love with it as much or more than if it were religious. It had a Spiritual effect on me regardless. But as I said, my brother got hold of it one day and used it to tape some country songs from the radio - he was heavily into Kenny Rogers at the time, and played Gambler incessantly - thus I lost most of the songs on the tap anyway. Don't know if it was intentional or accidental but since the tape was mostly, ruined for my use I told him to keep it, but was ever so pissed with him for ages after. Well, my dad passed away round, three and a half years ago now, and this would have been a lovely, keepsake of him if I still had it. Now actually, this may not have been their best collection of songs, but it was the first and only collection I heard, and all the other things I mentioned make it of huge, sentimental value to me regardless. I'm amazed no one has bothered to put out a collection of CD versions of all these recordings as they were originally, arranged and still be selling them today. They'd be a huge hit for those of us who remember the music and young people who have discriminating taste. Right? Now I have to admit, unlike your mom, I'm a huge fan of 60s Pop Music myself, all forms of it nearly, and wish to God they were playing something similar on the radio today. I love 60s, 70s and 80s pop music, with the 70s being my all time, favourite above and beyond the rest. If you mom hated 60s Pop then I can't imagine what she'd think of the trash of today. Candlelight And Wine. My all time favourite radio show hosted by the great Don Parrish. I get goose bumps just remembering..
Thank you for sharing this. What a wonderful time in our city. Calm sophistication, on the air over the radio.....
What great memories I wish there was recordings of Don Parrish 's Candlelight and Wine that was one of the all time great radio programs.
