    After spending the last twenty years drooling over these Moebius kits, I'm finally retired and not only have the money but the time to build models again. I chose to order a Flying Sub with lights first, But my next kit will be the J2 with lights and videos like this are so cool to have available to me. Especially considering that it's been 35 years at least since I've built a kit. Not to mention that back in my day we didn't have things like photo etch parts or pre soldiered plug and play lighting .. Thanks!

      I'm probably going to order the flying sub and lights myself. Let me know how it goes!

    I still have this kit put away to build. I really must get started on it. Unfortunately i wasnt willing to spend 3 times the cost of the model kit to buy the full lighting kit so will be doing my own lighting with LEDs and optic fibre.

    Great video, I am working on my Jupiter 2 now. I have the light kit and several other aftermarket accessories. I will take your advice on gluing the tubes! Thanks for posting this.

    +Firstly, Paul thank you for a top notch build, your model is superb and I'm just starting my model after noting all your recommendations.
    A little tip I picked up from my other model builds. When it comes to laying out the wires I found it easier to firstly lay them out on a piece of ply (board) or similar and using masking tape stick them gently to the board. This allows you to identify the lights against the lighting instructions and also test the entire lighting system. Just a note please ensure you use a non conductive material for your layout or you may fry your circuit boards. Doing this additional step helps identify the long wires and also removes the kinks in the wire from their packaging. This is by no means a necessary step but it did help me visualise and identify all the parts and run a test of all lights to ensure they work.

    • @pauly7218

      That is truly a great idea, because, yeah, it is a really mess of wires!

    That is incredible. Tragic that you had to hide so much detail with gluing the lid on, but I would have made the same call. If you're displaying it with the top on, it needs to look right. Amazing job, sir.

    Paul, Beautiful build!! The astrogator decal actually goes on part #47 the astrogator calibrated ring. Not on the dome itself! Also if you remove the wheels off of the Johnny Lightning Robot. he will fit inside the ship just a little bit better.

    ordered the kit , watched this and will order the lighting kit , can you recommend products glues , tools etc ?, its been 40 years since I have made anything ..can't wait to attempt this .

    • @pauly7218
      @pauly7218  3 роки тому +1

      I use several glues. for the most part I use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. For small parts I want to dry fast I use the Quick setting version. Every now and then, like with photo etch, I use Loctite Gel Controll CA, and for the electrical, a good low temp hot glue. be sure it is low temp as is the glue gun so as to not damage the electronic!

    I'm currently on a binge watch of "Lost In Space", the entire series. Hope to finish it up soon. Pretty campy after the first season, but very funny watching the misadventures of Dr. Smith. Would be cool if someone had a kit for the robot.

    I think the smaller version of this kit had a removable lid.
    It’s a shame that some of the interior will not be seen once sealed up.

    Paul, GREAT VIDEO on the build! I should have my J2 & lighting kit in a wesk or so. I did have a quick question for you if you don’t mind.
    On the topic of using hot glue did you use the low setting for the whole build (fusion core & lights) or just the “core”. Just getting my game plan together. TIA! 😀

      @@pauly7218 Paul, got my light kit today! Was looking through the instructions and noticed there were no drilling hole sizes. Do you happen to know what sizes you used, of did you just eyeball it? J2 should be here middle of next week! Thanks! 😀

    • @pauly7218
      @pauly7218  3 роки тому +1

      @@nolefan05 I'm excited for you. For your question, I actually thought the sizes were in the instructions, but if not, you should be able to size it easy enough by eye. Just DON'T go too big! if anything, be small and file to it or better still, drill and test fit in a test piece! Good luck...

    I noticed you dont seem to scrape the paint off before gluing parts together. Seems like you glue paint to paint surfaces which wouldnt hold well . I could be mistaken? Just an observation.

    • @pauly7218

      The Cement is strong enough that is removes the paint. For difficult areas or areas I want to ensure a better grip I will scrape... Good eye!
