I'm a proud American and well aware of our contributions to the world. Most Americans (not all) love the Russian people, but not their government. Our government is far from perfect, but our ultimate wish is for the entire world to be free of tyrannical governments. On a side note, I LOVE the UK and have visited there over 20 times.

I would like to ammend your statement to, "We USED to be the good guys." The premise that we ARE "the good guys" would have several hundred millions to billions of objectors (and that includes many American citizens). But otherwise, great video - as always!

I was just saying that due to actions undertaken by our government and military in the past 2 decades or so have not always been so "good" and therefore America's reputation as the "good guys" has taken a major dive worldwide, including among our own citizens.

When I see comments from people in the UK and Europe making fun of "dumb Americans" and me knowing the history of WW1 and WW2 and the amount of resources, money and young American men it's cost to bring peace to their homeland in the 20th century I don't know whether to be pissed off or laugh at their stupidity of their own history
The Marshal Plan was very much a result of learning lessons from World War I. The emphasis after that war was revenge and retribution, which led to an economy in Germany that allowed for Hitler’s rise. That’s why Germany was included in the rebuilding and economic development plan after WWII, and thankfully it worked.
Same thing in Japan too. Kindness after defensive war is important.
We also implemented this plan in our civil war, Lincoln was adamant that the South wouldn’t be punished so harshly. If only he lived long enough to help heal the country after such a disastrous war.
When I was in a little town in Scotland in 2018, I told a man in his 30s his dog was beautiful. He asked where I was from. I told him from Missouri in the US. He got teary eyed and said something to the effect of: You saved my country. No greater love has a man than to lay down his life for another. We will never forget what you did. Thank you for my beautiful country and our freedom.
Both my parents served in US Army during WWII. I can’t begin to express the wave of emotion through my soul. God bless America! 🙏🇺🇸🙏

I got similar treatment in New Zealand. I was waiting at a bus stop in Christchurch. A car pulled up and asked where I was from. I said the US. They gave me the "You guys saved us in WW II" story and offered to take me wherever I wanted to go. They did take me downtown which was where I was going. The odd thing was that at this same time, New Zealand was banning US Navy ships carrying nuclear weapons from their ports.
I heard an old saying once “gratitude is an ill-fitting tunic that begins to chafe and smell if worn too long.” Perhaps some parts of the world would hate us a little less if they did not owe us so much. It is human nature to hate a debtor.

My Grandfather, a Manager of a Granary in Wisconsin, helped organize grain donations from the regions farms to aid Europe after the war as a precursor to, and then a sub par of, the Marshall plan. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I have been told this was one of this proudest achievements, helping rebuild our friends and allies.
Many non NATO Nations are also under American protection such as Japan, South Korea, Israel, Taiwan, Philippines, Micronesia, Palau, Marshall Islands, etc. Our power does rely heavily on our diplomatic relations with our friend across the world.

Of course we knew about it, it's taught in our history classes. It's interesting to me that no one in Europe seems to be aware of the fact that the US rebuilt Europe with American tax dollars through the Marshall Plan, not to mention what we gave many European countries during the war effort. People seem to demand so much from Americans, yet are grateful for so little.
You must be older, not aware of what is taught in school these days. When videos of College students at Harvard and Yale can not answer SIMPLE questions like how many moons Earth has, or to name the two Countries that Border The U.S.A. and they CAN NOT!

Little known fact, Winston Churchill had pneumonia, flew to the US in the back of a cargo plane. Landed, and asked Franklin Delano Roosevelt for help. He denied him, and he had to fly back to England. A few months later, Pearl Harbor happened, and Churchill called it the best tragedy to have ever happened to mankind.
You’re missing the part when Churchill ordered it’s Navy to sink the US merchant ships and lied to the US that it was Germany that did it.

I've Always considered myself pretty good historian when it comes to our past, the United States and its place in the world.. but I'm learning quite a few things right here that I didn't realize.
So many people forget so quickly of things that happened to them and who helped them in those times. The people that stood by them. And yet some still think of us of the bastards of the world. Very unfortunate and very sad! It's even worse is the people that actually come to this country now and say how bad the country is. To them I say.... Love it or leave it!!
I don't get where all the hate comes from, lately it's gone from minor squabbles and fun teasing to vile hate. The 911 anniversary brought out the worst

Interviews with some in their 20's basically stated who cares about 9/11 which says it all. Not trying to stir it up here but simply stating a view through interviews.
The hate comes from people that are ignorant about history and the current liberal politics - it's very clear when it started and also why the economy is tanking bad, along with interest rates, gas/electric massive increases due to such political decisions, increased taxes, etc, etc, etc.
Here I'm thinking I knew something and I was blown away with what I learned in this video. I didn't know the US did any of this. Maybe they should teach more of this in school.

The Marshall Plan was absolutely not altruistic. A stable, prosperous Europe was, and is, in our best interest.
As an American, it warms my heart to see videos like this. Since we get so much "news," (actually propaganda), we feel like we are terrible human beings. But the truth is that we have done mighty good things, and some mighty bad things. We've made mistakes sometimes, but the USA in WWI and WWII era was a better country with better morals. We try to spread democracy in our own way in our ideological war against communism. Great video! Do part 2!

My mother was German and she said without the American Red Cross sending boxes of food they never would have made it.
Glad you did this video. A lot of people forget or don’t know about the Lend Lease program or the Marshall Plan.
My dad and other US soldiers were stationed in UK during WWII, including 3 or 4 more guys from the state of Georgia. They worked with the wounded in hospital. Several of them came back wounded themselves. My dad died at an early age when shrapnel left in his back turned into cancer. I have pictures taken from that time where they were treating soldiers, mostly British.
They didn't even mention The Berlin Airlift that came when The Marshall Plan was organized and put into effect.
American and British air forces flew over Berlin more than 250,000 times, dropping necessities such as fuel and food, with the original plan being to lift 3,475 tons of supplies daily. By the spring of 1949, that number was often met twofold, with the peak daily delivery totalling 12,941 tons.[3] Among these, candy-dropping aircraft dubbed "raisin bombers" generated much goodwill among German children.[4]
The Berlin Airlift officially ended on 30 September 1949 after fifteen months. The US Air Force had delivered 1,783,573 tons (76.4% of total) and the RAF 541,937 tons (23.3% of total),[nb 1] totalling 2,334,374 tons, nearly two-thirds of which was coal, on 278,228 flights to Berlin. In addition Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and South African air crews assisted the RAF during the blockade.[5]: 338 The French also supported but only to provide for their military garrison.[6]
American C-47 and C-54 transport airplanes, together, flew over 92,000,000 miles (148,000,000 km) in the process, almost the distance from Earth to the Sun.[7] British transports, including Handley Page Haltons and Short Sunderlands, flew as well. At the height of the Airlift, one plane reached West Berlin every thirty seconds.[8]
Seventeen American and eight British aircraft crashed during the operation.[9] A total of 101 fatalities were recorded as a result of the operation, including 40 Britons and 31 Americans,[8] mostly due to non-flying accidents.

My grandmother heard what was going on in Europe during WW2 and moved 1500+ miles to work in a bomb factory in California since her fiancee was likely en route to Europe (POW 3 years). As much as I don't agree with American policy today, I'm still thankful for the American spirit to help in crisis.
The issue the USA had with Russia 'after' the war was entirely due to the fact that Russia was trying to "keep" all the territories it had "liberated" from Germany. All those nations Germany had taken over on their march East, Russia wanted to keep, rather than 'return to their previous state'. It would be like if the USA decided it wanted to 'keep' France as "part of the USA" after helping to push Germany out.

I was just conversing with an East Indian coworker today and told him; every great nation will fall eventually and that whatever day America falls, that will be the day many who hate America will wish them back as #1. No country is perfect and certainly ours isn't but we do get a bad wrap. his come back was that he tried 4x to get a visa to come to America. it is the only country where you have to be lucky to come here...I just left the convo at that point. You can only argue with someone if they are at your level of understanding.
But I think it's fair to say that it does need some luck to get into the US if you're doing a visa by yourself and not by a company. It's obvious your co-worker wants to enter the US as a worker with a skillset but he can't, for whatever reason. His frustrations are understandable and reasonable.

It's not the citizens of Russia and Ukraine that want war, it's the sticking governments. As an American, we don't want war either. Though after 9/11, as a nation we were wickedly pissed off! And it was on. We love you all in the UK, and one day hope to visit.
I'm old enough to remember in the early 1950s every Christmas there were campaigns to send "Care Packages" to Europe to feed people over the holidays.

History intertwined. I live in St. Louis. About 100 miles west is Fulton, Mo., where Winston Churchill gave a commencement speech at Westminister College at the invitation of President Truman. It is a very small town. This speech first coined the term, "iron curtain," as Churchill warned that the Soviets were pulling an iron curtain down over Eastern Europe. The chapel where Churchill was baptized was disassembled stone by stone in Britain and reassembled on the spot. Beneath the Church is a Churchill Museum and on the grounds is a section of the Berlin Wall.
And understand, this isn’t Gvt money, this is the average hard working Americans money! The US Gvt may have given it, but it was the average American that worked hard for it and created it. I pray that if sh*t hit the fan in America, we would have the backing of our Allies. My father fought in WWII (Pacific).

NATO is a huge waste of our money. Nobody can touch the US. They can't even get over here. So we're safe. So why are we spending so much money to protect other nations? It's so that those nations don't have to spend on military. They can use all of their tax dollars on social programs. That's why our allies have free health care and go on 8 "holidays" per year. Meanwhile I haven't had a single day off in 9 months and I have pains in my chest that I don't have the time or money to go get looked at. Oh, and I wasn't able to be there for my son's birth. It's so that my tax dollars can go to defend our allies.
But believe me, a country like the UK that could be vaporized with a single bomb will absolutely look the other way while the US is annihilated if they're threatened. And even if the allies did show up, what are they going to do to help with their piss ant militaries? Nothing. Seriously do you think James is going to show up with a rifle? NOPE!!!
My Dad was also in the Pacific as a Marine. He also had Brothers there with him Navy& Army and two Brothers in the European Theater Air Force & Navy.

My Aunt help build airplanes at Olmstead Airforce base in Middletown PA (now a Penn State campus). She met her husband there, a Brit, working on this new technology from Britain called Radar!!

@@theidajawho I call BS on those videos containing Harvard and Yale students. I’ve seen many of the videos with the questions you mention but they most certainly aren’t aimed at Ivy League students. It is incredibly sad how many people in the USA don’t know basic answers to basic questions, I will agree with that. Whether the UA-camr picks and chooses which interviews to add for effect, or not, it’s sad how many don’t know the simple answers.

You also have to remember that this aide was given while it helped to fight the war and while remaking the damaged naval fleet and fighting the Pacific war against Japan.

some of the friction between the U.S. and Russia was that they refused to payback the U.S. for the supplies given them during the war. they decided that the U.S. couldn't make them pay it back, so they just said F.U. to the U.S. There were many other factors as well, but this contributed to it also.
In 2021 the US provided $38 Billion USD through Foreigin Aid programs. $34 B have been dispenced. Year on year the US is the top donor often exceeding 15% of GNI. (Gross National Income). And yet as a retired Solider I cannot count the number of times I had someone in my face yelling "Yankee Go Home". But on the flip side of that coin, I must admit that I have been treated very well in some few instances. But, that "yankee go home" stings. A lot.
Marshall Plan is a key component of WWII curriculum for us whenever it is covered.

I am so proud to be an American and even more so after seeing this video but I am also saddened to think about all of the hate we receive from not only the outside countries but many of our own people who are not proud to be Americans. It actually makes me sick when I hear Americans say they are not proud of our country. Yes, America has its problems and we have a lot going on right now with the current administration, who I do not agree with, but I am still proud to be an American despite the issues we go through on a daily basis.
Dislike your government, but do not dislike your country. That’s one of the beautiful things about the USA… stick around a bit, the administration will change to the guy you like in time

As an American... of the *ahem* mature variety (ya, I'm old) I remember we learned about the Marshall Plan in our history class. I couldn't remember the details, so it was good to hear again. I don't think they teach history to young people any longer, and if they do, they soften things or change history, which is a huge mistake. If we don't learn history we are bound to repeat it... Anyway, I enjoyed this.
Interesting bit of info I heard, the Queen, RIP, was alive for about 30% of the time the US has been a nation. That's crazy for two reasons. One the obvious that she was alive for 30% of the time my country has existed! Two the US has to hold the world record for going from 0 to 100 faster than any other country. From colony to worlds only super power in the span of 3.something Queens.

I've always known the US was as I call it a PEACE keeping country. We try to help every country, even when our government needs to help its own people. We have so much homelessness. Also because we help so much we are in so much debt. The American workers pay so many taxes. It will never be enough to get us out of debt.

This was a very informative video. It's interesting to see how things might have played out if the U.S. didn't exist. I'm glad that we generally try to do the right things when good leaders, with vision are in charge and the people VOTE. I'm very proud of our country and I hope we always strive to be "a more perfect union" - not just for ourselves, but as a partner to the rest of the world.

At the same time we rebuilt Europe we also rebuilt Japan. This is why some of our greatest enemies later became some of our closest allies later.

Yes, we know about the Marshall Plan
Yes, we were aware of the Marshall Plan. It was our obligation.
Had the US stayed completely neutral in WWII, Germany would rule the European continent, and Japan would rule eastern Asia. However, what most Americans don't realize is that we only went to war with Japan because we put them in a situation where their only choices were to bow to us or go to war with us. Of course, we did that because we knew of their imperial ambitions, and the reigning power was going to be either them or us.
The other thing this video doesn't mention is that when we occupied Japan after their surrender, there has never been a more benign and benevolent conqueror. We rebuilt their nation, we rebuilt their government, we set them on the road to prosperity, and then we.......... left and allowed them to be free and independent.
Proud American from Missouri. We learn this in school and this is a big part of the reason we fly the American flag at all times in all places. We are proud that we as a nation were able to help our friends and allies when they needed it and the flag symbolizes this pride.

Since they mentioned Stalin and the Winter War against Finland, you should DEFINITELY react to the Deadliest Sniper Ever. (A Finnish farmer and total badass; I have no idea how more people worldwide haven’t heard his story.) It’s almost comical how Stalin/Russia thought they’d just take over Finland within days, while everyone’s attention was on the “main” war. It literally only lasted about 3 months, over the winter of 1939-40, and a handful of badly outnumbered Finns beat back the Russian army. (Sound familiar? i think the reason why the US was anti colonial was either idealistic notions of brotherhood or selfish need to find new trade markets. i think the US felt shut out of many of Britain’s colonial markets and wanted a piece of the trade.
You should check out some of the north korean defector videos. Theres a bunch if them reacting to some of the US stuff youve guys watched. I personally like watching them trying different foods.

The money spent by the United States wasn't entirely giveaways like lend lease or grants. There was a lot of loans floated to keep allied countries working and not collapsing under the economic weight of the war. The United Kingdom to my knowledge is the only one that ever paid all their loans back. And I believe that occurred in the 60s or 70s I could be wrong on that. The United States railroad system is pretty antiquitated while the railroad system in Europe is pretty modern. Part of that is we rebuilt the railroad system in Europe. The system in the United States is maintained by the companies that own the railroad. Just an example

The world in general seems to dislike America but where would they be without us. Even today we give more money to foreign countries in aid EVERY year then some countries even make.
What's shameless is after that, Russia gave Japan information of US forces in Leyte Gulf in an attempt to slow US progress in the pacific. Their govt being mistrust is warranted even as an ally. We love Russias people! The difference is well regarded
The video starts off on the wrong foot saying a country has done things it deserves to be hated for. It’s rarely justifiable to hate an entire country so no the United States has not done anything to be hated as a whole nor has any other country that I can think of. Influential people within nations can do awful things but they rarely have the willing support of their entire nation.
Yes we are taught a lot of that in school. Honestly, thats why it is so insulting to Americans when Europeans minimize and even mock America's actions in WW2. Without America, they would probably be speaking German or Russian. Not only did America finance and supply the allies, we still had to supply and arm ourselves, and put over 12,000,000 men in uniform, 298,000 of which were buried over there in military cemeteries. The US built a naval fleet of over 6,700 ships, had an air force of over 80,000 planes and so many tanks, that the Axis literally couldn't destroy them fast enough.
And once the US helped the allies rid Europe of the Nazis while also fighting a 2nd full blown war in the pacific defeating the Empire of Japan, America then turned around and halted the Soviet invasion and prevented a Communist take over of Europe during the Cold War. Russian body count didn't save Europe. American soldiers and the US dollar saved Europe from the Nazis and the Soviets.
You guys showed up late and only when you thought you could commercially benefit from it. CANADA, Australia, New Zealand and the other commonwealth soldiers were standing shoulder to shoulder with the Mother Country from the very start.

@@terryomalley1974 Not to downplay the efforts of those people, I'm kind of a nerd about the Royal New Zealand Air Force efforts in the war, but when you have the same king of course you get a phone call telling you to come to Europe. It's just a totally different situation.

The USA had the largest economy in the world PRIOR to WW2. We didnt build the economy off of the graves of Europe. Quite the opposite. And another news flash for you. A lot of those debts owed to the USA in WW2 WERE NEVER REPAID to this very day by Europe.
We didn't help ourselves to the spoils of Europe. The only ground we kept, was the graveyards where we buried our soldiers who died fighting for EUROPE. I am not detracting from the efforts of the commonwealth countries. They had a lot of brave soldiers who fought valiantly and they deserve our honor and respect.
What I am saying is that collectively the allies got their rear ends handed to them by vastly superior German and Japanese war machines, and were out of ships, guns, tanks, planes, men, petrol, food, money, raw materials, ammo and reinforcements until the USA showed up. And we didn't show up late. We had and still have no obligation to join in every squabble that Europe cooks up. The allies should thank their lucky stars that the Axis was dumb enough to involve us.

Finland was one of the only countries to repay the US for WW2 debt. Jimmy Carter forgave the debt of other countries, but I believe the UK paid off their debt in 2006. Russia, China and others still owe billions and get this, we paid Japan in restoration funds.

I was taught how great th U.S.A. is.
But understand please. We are also educated on bad things we did. Every country does bad things. I'll always believe that America is mostly righteous and yearns for all humankind the right to be free and pursue your happiness!

We learn about the Marshall Plan in US History classes. Without the Marshall Plan, Western Europe would have been overrun by the Soviets.
Yes I knew about the Marshall Plan I knew about the landlase and I know even after all that and we're still the bad guy everybody in the world even though we saved everybody's butt
Yup and we still pay France money every year for the land our troops were buried on in WWII
