I feel like Curlfeather liked the concept of her kits. She liked a few warriors that would be loyal and a medicine cat to back her up. She never acknowledged that her actions were wrong, only Splashtail's. Frostdawn, Graysky, and Mistpool derserved a mother that loved them even if they weren't "useful".
haven’t watched the vid yet, but I think she did. Though she did use Frostdawn for her plans and manipulated her, she sacrificed her life and did show real affection at some points. Im not gonna list all of that, I’ll say, even being a bad mother, she did love Frostdawn.
I do think she did, even if she used her, she never actually treated frostpaw badly, she showed her love and care that never seemed fake, and she ended up dying for her, I don’t think she’s even close to being on the same boat of actually bad parents, like rainflower even though she is a villain.
i think she did love her kits, but she did still hurt Frostdawn, and Frostdawn was hurt by her, and that wasnt the best of course, but i think she did care because she wouldnt have died for her if she didn't
I believe she did, but also needed her plans to succeed, so she didn’t try too hard. Also, could you do a video on the Menagerie? It is a really good trilogy written by Tui, but is always overshadowed by Wings of Fire. I’d love to see someone talk about it!
Sparkpelt never neglected her kids. In squirrelflight’s hope she spends like, one day not being able to nurse them because of grief but then does the whole rest of the time, and raises them like normal. Yes she’s grieving their brother and father but she still raises them, she in no way neglects them. When she’s exiled in tbc she offers to take flamepaw and finchpaw with her, but flamepaw refuses. She never neglects her kids.
Honestly this question has always been kind of moot to me. However Curlfeather truly feels doesn't really matter - in fact, it might even make her worse. She may feel love towards her daughter, as in she feels the emotion of love towards her, but she does NOT love her daughter in the truest sense. That is, she might feel affection for her, but if she is willing to risk her life and manipulate her, that emotion is meaningless. Curlfeather and Berryheart have both very much read to me the entire time as two sides of the same coin. That being the whole "love = obligation/a duty." It's very common in real life among especially parents who are religious - you know the type. Keep their children fed and defend them at every opportunity, but don't care at all about their emotional health, interests, or them as actual people. I think the difference in how they play out is that Berryheart as a character is rooted in xenophobia and conservatism, while Curlfeather's story is more about progressivism, so she says. This endears the audience more to Curlfeather, and for good reason! I think this might also be sort of a feature of the writing team's bias slipping in as well. After all, the common life of a mother's love has always been portrayed as the whole "mama bear" trope. I genuinely think most mothers in warriors who aren't explicitly written to be hateful of their family would die for/kill for their kits, because that's how the authors have always defined what a mother's love is like. So, tl;dr: Curlfeather's feelings about Frostpaw don't matter when she did what she did to her, except from strictly an analysis standpoint. (Which, to be clear, I think videos like this are - just giving my two cents about the "implications" of Curlfeather.) I think most of Curlfeather's sacrifice is genuinely just what the Erins think any not-evil-doesn't-hate-their-kits parent would/should do. After all, they sent Frecklewish to the dark forest for NOT dying trying to save children that weren't even hers.
I will always believe that Curlfeather specifically believed the ends justified the means and loved Frostpaw in her own flawed way

Yes.
She wouldn’t have saved her child’s life and die a horrific death being mauled by dogs if she didn’t love her.

27:15 whos that on the far right of the art? I recognize Splashtail, I'm talking about the cat above him.
Havenpelt I’m guessing. His mom.
@ Havenpelt deserves a better son
@@Third7Plays Yep, Havenpelt

She’s also sick in Squirrelflight hope and it’s part of the reason she can’t nurse them at first. It’s the same reason flickerkit and larksong die

Yeah, she's a horrible person but I think she did love her daughter. Otherwise she wouldn't have given her life and all her plans up to save her.
WORLD'S WORST MOM IS RAINFLOWER!!!!
Wait, doesn’t curlfeather have amber eyes?
