This was a really interesting episode because the Boogie man was not a Ghost but a sort of demon monster thing...this episode scared the Hell out of us as kids

The most powerful entities the Ghostbusters face are not, ironically, ghosts. The most powerful beings are demons. followed by those of the fairy class, elves and goblins. Normally, when there is a group of ghosts anchored to a certain specific place, a demonic portal generally appears due to thier pain.
The animation can be crude at times, they were on a budget. Boogie man’s design is cartoonish, yet he also looks like something a child’s imagination would conjure. And the voice acting nailed it, “That wasn’t nice…not nice at all!”
No doubt. This one left a mark!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who was scared of this episode. I used to go to sleep under my covers so I didn't stear at my closet. As a matter of fact this animated show has several episodes that scared me

I love how Egon goes above and beyond the line of duty when children are in danger.

The first season voice acting and the characters were so much better as well as the writing. Peter telling the kids about their usual fee, but then indulging them as well as asking for night time snacks for them show that Peter as well as the other guys had a great heart, especially for kids.
so the boogieman is technically one of the most important ghosts of the whole show.
Since he's the one who prompted Egon to become a Ghostbuster in the first place!
Guess so. In "The Boogieman is Back!" , Egon designs something that looks like a different proton gun, but it's to turn the villain into a ghost (guess he's more like a demon or something )I think the villain comes back AGAIN in a Ghostbusters comic book. Maybe they should've had him as the arch enemy of the team. Man I would have loved to see what he would've looked like in the Ghostbusters Afterlife film. He probably would've looked even creepier!

The Boogie Man episode is THE episode that I remember from my childhood. I have no idea why. Also? I'm black and I'd completely forgotten that the children he was terrorizing were too. My sister and I slept in the same bedroom together too, only as the brother I was the older one. The only thing I remember is how cool Egon was. He seemed to have all the insight into what the creature was and how to deal with it. I also thought it was really awesome that it was not a ghost, but as scientists they still made educated guesses at the best possible approach.

As an adult, I think shows how good the writing and voice acting were that the Boogieman doesn’t have a lot of dialogue, but what he does say hits hard.

@@dkupke Huh, I just checked the dates, and was surprised to see that this episode came out BEFORE “A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3,” in which Freddy recognizes Nancy Thompson, “You,” and she says, “Oh my God.” (This episode was released around the time Nightmare 3 started filming, but that movie had been in writing/development for some time before that. It’s most likely an eerie coincidence.)
That episode was AWESOME! I love how they portrayed the Bogeyman as a demonic creature that resides in another dimension that resembles an M.C Escher artwork and the way it resembles a demon similar to the child-feasting creature Lamia! It also reminds me of the Roblox horror game "Doors" and the Insidious trilogy, with the way the Bogeyman resembles the Red-Faced Demon and his home realm being quite similarly described and portrayed as The Further realm where the former resides.
I also see the Bogeyman has traits of Satan himself, especially with the cloven hooves! It's almost as if the Bogeyman's domain is located between Earth and Hell, with the Bogeyman's scaring perhaps being the work of the Devil himself!
Yo, this show looks way better than i remember. Money and talent clearly went into this.
I love how in the series they don’t just deal with ghosts. They deal with other supernatural beings too, like the bogeyman, vampires, and werewolves

"The Boogey Man Cometh" is my favorite episode of The Real Ghostbusters. "Mrs. Roger's Neighborhood" is my second favorite.

My exGF was extremely traumatized by this episode. She genuinely was afraid of this specific Boogeyman. It was fun to tease her with that. Her siblings even made a piñata with its shape to prank her when she was young.

Again the one thing I really enjoy the most is when ever Slimer slimes Peter gets me every time
This was a genuinely clever Ghostbusters story. It had the M.C. Escher environment of the Boogieman’s world, character development for Egon, and the fun romp of them chasing the Boogieman across children’s bedrooms in far-flung places. I’d like to think of it as canonical on some level with the movies.

This is the most exciting episode in the Ghostbusters film (my opinion 😁), and what's even funnier is Slimer's behavior. 😁
You could make the Boogey Man be the ultimate villain and actually make the Ghostbusters movie quite serious. Anytime you hear the music cue come in that plays when their packs are overloading, that is the "deadly serious" theme used only in very few episodes. The "everything is at stake" theme.
The most serious Ghostbusters episode ever is when that one guy got a flute that could play a song that would end the world. He was basically impossible to beat and almost destroyed the entire world. I believe it was called Ragnarok and Roll. They literally only won because his best friend we w child was going to die and it changed his heart back from a demon to a man. He then played the "Song of Life" and restored the destruction. The Ghostbusters literally could NOT beat him, he himself gave in.

I like how other kids get scared when they see the Boogeyman but then become happy when they see that the Ghostbusters are chasing after him and they cheer the Ghostbusters on.

When I was a child the Boogeyman got stuck in my head. It is so creepy.
On the other hand, Peter's skepticism of the Boogeyman is ironic for a ghostbuster.
Well in the movies. Peter was skeptical until the library incident.
This was one of the best serious episodes of the real ghostbusters series plus it tells us the story egons origins for investigating the super natural

@@genesisjimenez5391 it gets hard to decide but When Halloween Was Forever, Flip Side and then maybe Citizen Ghost. I just know there's one or two I'm forgetting but honestly there's a Bunch of really good stuff in the first couple seasons, Flip Side is maybe the last really good episode they made after the changes in voice, story and animation had to be made.

This episode, captain N, and DD animated series tripped me out but I loved em!
I remember watching this episode in the early am with my brother . We look similar to the brother and sister in this episode. We loved ghostbusters and we would get out our ghostbusters toys when the episodes would come on. Even The original ghostbusters cartoon & live show with the orange car and gorilla with the two guys.
Well half way into this episode my brother puked all over the floor. Just out of the blue. Not connected to the show but I never forgot it.

$1,500 rent for an apartment in New York City. 😂 And Peter finds that unacceptable? How times have changed. When did this episode come out?

Just to give you perspective, that would be the equivalent of around $4,200 in today's money.
The greatest Ghostbusters episode. This would be such an awesome movie if done right. Those Ghostbusters were brave. They had no idea if the Boogieman’s realm would have either oxygen or gravity or any other pitfalls. I wonder if there was a reason the packs and the bomb had to be on his throne.
What if they just put them right by the door that led from the $1500 apartment and went back immediately? Where was Slimer? They could have used his help. It’s like he just hid the whole time. What if the ghost bomb was a dud or didn’t seal the layer off? Boogie was maniacally laughing when he thought he was chasing them back into our world without their packs.
No one made sure Boogie was not on Earth when they set off that bomb either.
Boogie could have decided to keep chasing them and abandoned his layer. He could have also reached the proton packs in time. No one wondered if Boogie could break the seal either.
What Egon planned was very risky and very reckless. They should have been wearing trackers and have Janine standing by with extra proton packs. And have Slimer carrying a fifth with them in the realm.
Egon was so driven that he threw caution to the wind. Did he do that In other eps? This seems so out of character for him.
One of my favorite episodes and one of the main reasons why Egon is my favorite ghostbuster
The #1 ghost I wish would make an appearance in the next movie.

Egon has the look of satisfaction on his face, he finally fulfilled his childhood dream of stopping the Boogeyman.

Great episode. The animation was top notch. The opening scenes especially with the view of the city, I went back and rewatched them.
This gave me nightmares as a child, still creepy.
The debut of one of the best Ghostbusters villains and one of the first recurring villains in the series. With the Boogieman, though, he always looks like he's a fusion of a donkey and the Joker.
Next two episodes will also have some great villains with Sandman first and Samhain after that. Of the three, who is you guys' favorite?

Also lets not pretend that every 90s cartoon was well animated. For every TRG there is a "The Brothers Flub". People just tend to view this era through nostalgai goggles and egnore all the bad that came out of it

The animators should've also had the rest of the ghosts that appeared in the animated series (including Slimer) be see-through, just like how it was done for the ghost of Louie the gangster, because that's how a ghost should be animated.

The Philippines, Summer (April, 1989). My whole Family would watch Ghostbusters every Friday at 8 pm. I was 8 years old, eating Snickers and M&M's after dinner. No Internet, no mobile devices. Wake up the next day (Saturday) and play outdoors the whole day. Yes, we had video games, but 2 hours was max, and you can't play during school time. Life was so good back then.
This was one of the most scary villains ever.
I remember sitting in my PJ's watching this when it first aired. Man, it makes me feel old. ;-P

This. Was. Scary. I was in my early 20's living in LA. One of my friends said to watch Ghostbusters; that episode was "Mrs. Rogers' Neighborhood." On RGB, they let the animation and the script dept. free reign (finally). But This One carried a trigger or 2. Character design at its finest. One of my friends was in film school and he hammered out a pitch synopsis that was sadly rejected.

One of the funniest things about the voice cast of this cartoon, to me at least, is Lorenzo Music voicing Dr. Peter Venkman. Lorenzo Music also voiced Garfield in that TV animation around the same time frame, and later on when the Garfield movies were made (2004 and 2006), Bill Murray voiced the titular feline. I always thought that was neat.
