I think the most hyped for me was Shanks one shotting Kid. I was in pure disbelief and shock. My favorite stretch of chapters was probably the Marijoa reveal with Im and the Elders though, but the Garp/Kuzan stretch was fire too. 2023 was just an all around great year for One Piece.
Wouldn't have been in disbelief if people weren't denying the fact that Kidd and Law only got their ring-out victory against Big Mom because she didn't use ACOC. Shanks showed us what happens when a Yonko actually does, just as Kaido did to YC1 Luffy.

She did use ACOC multiple times just not when law was getting pummeled. She used Mama Raid, and Elbalf Spear multiple times which both have shit tons of haki.
I was reeling from the amount of emotions I experienced from that chapter lmao. Seeing what I thought was one of the many borderline pointless characters that was part of the reason I didn't like Wano be completely annihilated for acting a fool caused me to gasp, laugh, and scream all at the same time lmao. Not only was I cool with it because Kidd is a character that I personally think sucks in terms of his role in the story, it was also cool seeing a feat by Shanks. If the dude catches you being a dipshit he won't hesitate to end you.

Nuisance wasn't necessarily the problem. The problem is prioritizing a particularly strict translation, bit of word play and turn of phrase over the emotional impact. Why does Vegapunk throw the word back at Kuma? It's disbelief, does Kuma really not understand how much he means to the people that love him? As an example: "A nuisance... your death's going to be a lot more than a nuisance to all the lives you've blessed." I'm not saying that's perfect (I'm not being paid to land on a final draft in this comment), only that it's better while maintaining the word choice and emotional impact.

For me "Wish her a happy 10th bday" one, Vegapunk's introduction (I laughed my a** off) and Galaxy Impact were the best ones. I saved so many stocks on Garp since forever and watching him destroy those pirates made my week (month*).

Dude i agree so hard, that stephen paul sucks. It feels to me like hes always trying to flex his own vocabulary knowledge and inserting old-timey talk instead of just conveying whats on the page. Tcb has been out-doing him in making natural emotional dialouge for several years now.
It's just so sad man, and the worse part is that it makes supporting the official kind of annoying since it's so bad to read. I don't know japanese, so I can't really say if he's trying to be too linguistically faithfull, but sometimes he just seems to go out of his way to write the most convoluted and unnatural dialogue ever. It's incomprehensible to me, especially since other series he worked on actually have incredible translations (eg Akane Banashi)

IMO 1082 was by far the best chapter of 2023. Thematically it was so in line with the macro story of One Piece, dreams never die etc And it also showcased Oda's ability as a storyteller to completely redefine two characters & their relationship by adding a little context to a scene we've known about for decades.

A cheap "wow look this character's love interest got raped and murdered" plot point without earning it or giving the actual victim enough time, paired with "this character who I've drawn half naked in lewd poses for a decade now is actually a literal child".
