I discovered this recently and it’s so true.

Great video. Sounds like you play quietly, your tone will improve as well as other fundamentals. I've always been a louder player, which I think might have been diminishing my playing abilities.

Hi Josh, thanks for taking the time to upload and great explanation. If i may say, it would have been helpful at least for me, a visualizer learner, to hear you to play soft.

Very helpful video. I started trying to play soft a couple of months ago. My question is ..how soft should I play? I am not a professional player..my notes tend to crack at very soft volume. Then , the next question is: how high should a beginner go while playing softer? When I get to a G , G# or A# above the staff my sound thins out and sometimes won't come out🤷🏾‍♂️

Thanks! You should play as soft as you're able with a full sound, without it getting tight or strained. As you improve, you'll be able to play softer and softer. As far as the range is concerned, it's the same thing. Slowly work your way softer and softer, and you'll increase your ability to develop that fine control. As you ascend remember to keep the airstream energized. It's not too much, but it's focused and unrelenting. Like a laser beam. Most people run into issues by inadvertently letting up on the gas after the note has started.

Hi Mark, I don't have a video on that ... let me think about it. Some videos I've avoided as there is possibly too much room for misinterpretation, but I could probably do a video that shows how horn angle will naturally adjust for most people as they play. It might be good to have it be a horn/mouthpiece video ... I'll see if I can come up with something along those lines.
