- It's Robot Fighting Time!
Huge needed to win this battle to make it into the Championship Tournament, but was facing a tough opponent in Kraken, who from the start makes their presence known. This fight is from Season 5 Episode 8.

I love Huge. Such a unique design. It looks like it shouldn’t work, but they somehow managed to do great.
Yep, getting so far as the finals in the last season was something the most of the people couldn't imagine but I've seen that coming as the rest of the teams started to get deeper into the four-wheeled vert meta.
The time it's running, and more and more unlikely designs are proving themselves. The previous season we got Tantrum, this time Sawblaze and HUGE.
Well deserved win, but what a show by Kraken! I wanna see more powerful and more flamethrowers.
AFAIK Kraken gets big upgrades for the next season, including a spinner
I don't know why they don't use welding torches...
@@lordroo8484 Could be regulations or simply construction constraints, the compressed air you use for such a torch would take up a lot of space.
not really a win..in this match it was who is the worse payer, and the kraken team was as bad as it gets

Because it was carried away
This is fascinating. Seen so many fights where Huge just does nothing. Kraken seems to be the perfect height to take damage from Huge
Robots like Kraken remind me of Wild Thing, it’s one of those machines that can tank the hits and still carry on, before the fight I was expecting Huge just to dominate from the beginning and not give Kraken any breathing space afterwards (possibly knocking it out).
This sport keeps proving that nothing is certain until you see it.
There was a robot like Huge in the UK's Robot Wars but it didnt have the blade (just a hammer tail that had no real weight to it), wasn't so well driven (which meant their weapon was pretty much useless) and was pretty much ineffectual. Here it shows how a bot like that can actually do well if given the right weapon and driving skills.
Edit: It did try a blade attachment but it was still pretty ineffectual.

@@markholroyde9412 The fact that the weapon and the driver weren't effective has absolutely no bearing on the basic design of the two bots being identical. You really should use your brain before posting drivel. I know it's hard for you but do try.

@@markholroyde9412 Saying one bot is like another when they have the same general shape and appearance (big white centre block with huge wheels) is completely valid, even if their weapons are different.
A Christmas gift of a battle
In hindsight, HUGE probably would've done better to spin the bar downwards from the start, and get the vital components at the top. Still, it got the results it wanted in the end.

The problem with spinning downwards is that you'll send yourself flying when you hit the opponent.
no. Hindsight is 20/20, but not in this case. Spinning downwards = blocking your weapon or throwing yourself into the air. Spinning upwards (like almost al bots do) = sending the other both 10 ft into the air and keeping the momentum on your bar spinning.
No spinning downwards means a lot of your energy goes into the floor. Almost all vertical spinners spin upward as default.

those were some HUGE hits, i'm surprised that fire didn't melt any wires or circuit boards. but what i like most about huge, is that it started out as a clown / joke build, but they took it to the next level and just kept upgrading.
i have to admit, i didn't think this design would ever work when i first saw it, but now its really good. i think they only have to be afraid of horizontal spinners, i only remember one time where huge got ripped apart by one.

Is it in the rules that a robot has to release a hold after a while? Otherwise Kraken could just keep that initial hold all match

@@MikeOnTrack and if they cant let go of each other they have to stop the fight and try and seperate them and if they cant they have to go straight to the judges

complete control and gruff did some serious damage

It's no wonder Matt Spurk was in tears last season when he said Kraken was being retired. He has just lost the battle and knew the bot was past it's prime. He'd been fighting with that bot since Discovery's Season 3. RIP Kraken, you fought well. We can all only hope that Matt comes up with a new and even more amazing bot for 2023.
His new bot is...Kraken. It's been rebuilt into a vertical actuating spinner.

Huge is the Tito Ortiz of battle bots. Every victory feels pretty cheap.
Control bot is still a long way from going into Battlebots meta
But control bots were the meta back when Battlebots (classic era) began in the early 90's and also The giant nut Winner of 2015 which was biteforce was also a control bot so yeah control bots are not out of the meta they just got outshined by spinners pretty much

Flames are for show only. Rules.
Should use the flame on the wheels. That will disable it.
Wouldn't have worked, huges wheels are fire repellent/hard to melt + Kraken flamethrower only has a little range

Kraken = Warhead clone.
Not a fan of Huge but it is effective.
They still should improve wheels concept tho
@@Artemis0101 True. The wheels are kind of bendy. They may need stronger material.
@@Shonade_Malik the flexibility is their defence against spinners. Where a rigid wheel would shatter these ones just bend out of the way.
@@llamatronian101 I guess that's true, but if it's flexible, it doesn't always mean it's strong.
@@Shonade_Malik Well there was that similar bot in the reboot of UK Robot Wars called Gabriel, who's wheels did brilliantly for them and they were even more floppy than Huge's wheels.
It's the flexibility that makes them so effective, "stronger" materials would shatter under a heavy impact instead of just wobbling for a bit.

I feel like battlebots needs a shake up spinners are too prevelant its starting to get boring, maybe thats just me.
Cheating bot..... it can't fallen anyway.... fuxk accepted cheater.... because that back two stick can prevent fallen
Spin/Kinetic lawnmover bots shouldn't be allowed .
Build some real battlebots instead of taking a FKing electric motor with a swingarm to it.
