What a coincidence! the following is the exact comment i made a month back on a Tony Northrup video on camera theft:
"here's an idea for third-party battery grip manufacturers: put a gps tracker into your battery grip and provide air tag like capabilities too.. many people would be happier to pay for it.. at least you would be able to track your camera in the vicinity where it was stolen"

Add a thread for the Leica finger loop. Delete the wrap around thumb part so it works with the Leica thumb grip. That's all, it would be perfect for me then.

Hugh may I be so brazen as to suggest, a proprietary fastener be available, so a common coin or hex key cannot easily remove the grip. Once it becomes public knowledge that this type of grip cannot be easily removed and discarded without potentially damaging the camera, perhaps thieves will be discouraged.

Great to see your new product, looks excellent, look forward to the Fujifilm models.
Love this design, and I'll definitely want one. The only thing I wish I could add would be a screw socket for the Leica finger loop, which I really enjoy using for a two-finger + wrist strap carry.
This is likely possible! I can look at it; I don’t have that finger loop, so I would need to know the thread size and screw length.

This is Awesome!!! I've been looking for a grip for my Leica Q3 for awhile now and just haven't been impressed with what's available. The integrated AirTag compartment and mounting plate are glorious. Looking forward to ordering one of these! :)

Kudos. Absolutely love that you are doing this. Wondering if it's possible to intergrate a finger loop/handgrip add on to this amazing grip to truly make this a one hand wonder. Keep up the great work!
Fantastic concept, I hope it becomes a real product very soon. My only addition would be an L-bracket version. I know I can just tilt my ball head over, but I much rather keeping the camera vertical over the tripod and not hanging over the side. I wish you much success in this endeavor.

Great Hugh, well done. Love the idea to integrate the thumb grip so that we can enjoy the benefit of this "accessory" function on Leicas, while not clogging the hot shoe, which can remain free for the EVF, as you have stated. I also appreciate other features, and particularly aesthetic, in line with the beauty of the cameras in which we have invested (monetarily and emotionally) so heavily. But can you add the ability to add a vertical rail for tripod fixing in portrait orientation (as in "L-Bracket") without spoiling the aesthetic ??
Congrats Hugh on a great new business and product! I'm still rockin' the Q2 Reporter otherwise I would order one. Maybe consider integrated storage for the hex key? FYI, on Red Forum Camera Talk they mentioned that maybe RRS may not be making an L-bracket for the SL3.... You can own that market!

Looks very nicely done 🙏 I'm all for grips, having used a grip of sorts on almost all my cameras since starting out with a Pentax MX and it's compact battery winder. It would be fun, and good, if you made a Helium grip for the Nikon Zf( maybe Zfc too) that paid homage to the MD12...?!

Great idea. I think the inclusion of a place to put an AirTag is a smart move. As to making the grip compatible with the Peak Design fixture, that is also very clever. If you wanted to add a wrist strap, where would you attach it? I have never used a wrist strap so I am ignorant of how they work.
I have a Nikon Zf and I bought the SmallRig grip. I would consider buying the grip you are developing solely for the AirTag feature. Best of luck with this.
You could attach it to either camera lug; bottom right Helium grip; or 1/4” 20 threaded socket on the bottom of the Helium baseplate.

Great news and looks like it’s going to be a brilliant product. I’d love to be able to get it in the UK once it’s available for the Q2. I like that you offer a version without the thumb grip as I’m not a fan of those. Does the peak design integration work when the clip is mounted horizontally, eg on a rucksack strap? It looks like it only works when the clip is vertically, eg on a belt. If there was an indent on the baseplate to mimic a peak design plate (ie so it looked like a square had been squished into the arca baseplate) that would be fab.
Only one way, sorry - but wouldn’t it be nice to figure out a way to have the capture clip rotatable?

I LOVE what you are doing here and will absolutely be picking one up when the X100VI one is available. One thought that came to my mind as far as an option. There are those of us that aren't in the Apple ecosystem so an Airtag would be useless for an Android person. Could the area that holds the airbag be expanded to for a Samsung Tag2? Possibly offer the grip with a silicone wrap that would fit the Airtag or one that would fit the Samsung Tag2?
I'm not sure of the grip dimensions or whether or not the Samsung tag would fit.

Great news and promising design 😊. Hopefully you have found a manufacturer who can produce it within the tolerances required as to the mechanical design...Leica users especially are demanding and expect nothing but the best in terms of mechanical quality and fit. Looking forward to seeing the X-T5 version, currently using SmallRig with that one.
The fabricator for the CNC’d portions are a critical need supplier for SpaceX, Hermeus, among others. They are wonderful and client focused.
Great to hear, it is indeed crucial that production is in US, were the manufacturing 'somewhere else' you'd soon notice your IPR mean nothing and a copy would appear in the market for much less. Consistency is also key here.
Very promising design, would by it if it's made for the Leica CL (digital) also.

@@3BMEP Sounds good. Not sure whether working with someone like Wex Photo or Jessops (or Clifton, Park or Wilkinson) would be viable to sell/ distribute for you. Only issue with local tax is the fear of getting stung once it's in the country.
Yes I agree as the shipping company FedEx or Ups on my last overseas purchases have hassled me for the taxes (after delivery) and of course they add their bit on as well. So a dedicated UK supplier would be welcome, WEX probably the biggest, and more shops and a very good online service. I am signed up and want one for my Q3. I am holding on to the thought of using it.

This Grip would be even better with vertical Arca Swiss style mount, similar to the RRS LEICA M11 L-PLATE PLUS GRIP

Hugh... how long before you expect to bring to market? Are you doing a Kickstarter and will you be offering the Q2 version at the same time as Q3... Oh I'm in the UK... My RRS baseplate for my GFX50s has never been off the camera and I guess this will be the same for the Helium Design grip on the Q2...
The Q2 design is complete, barring a final production sample for validation! The differences between the Q2 and Q3 are subtle, yet significant; making sure that those differences were addressed was (is) extremely important. The most notable difference that needed attention is a lack of a registration pin and receiver hole on the Q2 to prevent shifting of the plate relative to the camera during use.

Love it. I switched Q2 handgrip to IDS which is still robust yet lighter, equally grippy and allow access to battery door & SD card. Now I need to find alternative of Leica thumb grip - I hate the button cover, I can’t press the button properly! Your design integrate the thumb grip to free up the hot shoe & doesn’t impair the buttons on the top plate.
Having just purchased my Q3, I have been looking for this exact product.... I did buy the JCC grip, but it's not got the features that this new one has - please let me know when stock is available ? 😊
