2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000 GX | First Launch Ride

- Both Chris and Chad were busy with Motorcycle Live and other launches, so we asked Chris Moss to ride the new 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000 GX in Portugal for us. #suzuki #suzukibikes #bikeworld
The bit at the end about growing a relationship with a workhorse bike rings true for me. A touring bike is a tool for adventure. As we adventure we appreciate reliability, simplicity, and ergonomics more than character or charisma.
Always good to have Mossy on the channel!
Pity the review was absolutely useless
Not really, no insight.
I really want this bike. Its like a Multistrada for people who aren't millionaires.
Ducati, the Audi of the motorcycle world, eh? Charge more than they can get away with but the thing that put me off the V2 Multi was the cost of a valve clearance service 😲

Mossy. What a geezah! A bloke that stands out, above the rest,In a nutshell, an outstanding journalist.👍🏻
I saw Mossy was doing the presentation and smiled 🙂 He always tells it as it is and is funny AF 😂 With this sort of bike, a bike with too much character might get on your nerves on long trips, whereas a more polished bike seems to get better...errr, like Mossy said !
This is spot on "a bike with too much character might get on your nerves on long trips"
Right, I rode the MG V100 Mandello a couple of months back and it has loads of character. After the ride, I thought to myself, I love this bike what great character and sound, then I thought...Would I still love it after a 500 mile day or would all that character wear on me? Verdict, I'll wait and see what else is coming down the pike.
@@Big_DT I was keen to buy the Guzzi but it felt like a big lumpy brute so I immediately crossed it off my list. Bought an NT1100 in the end.
i have 2 bikes i ride long distances here in Australia: bike 1 is a cruiser with lots of character, bike 2 is a sports tourer (I call it the mile muncher). I enjoy riding both for different reasons - bike one is slow and my arms and feet are out in the breeze where i get the feeling of being at one with the machine and the air. bike 2 is much quicker and just eats the miles with ease. of the two i probably favour bike 1. but then thats me 😊
Can’t wait to ride one. So far it’s looking like my next bike.
I think Suzuki made an amazing step forward. Bike has it all. Performance, tech, design, quality. And still for a normal price. Put an Akrapovic on and you have a weapon. For now I will stay on my 2023 Vstrom 1050.
Yoshimuras are usually better suited for suzuki inline 4's(atleast to my ears)......and i always think why not suzuki make and engine with the 2017 gsxr vvt( don't get me wrong this k5 derived engine is amazing)......a newer engine can be a step up
Manufacturers must wonder what people want these days.
It’s fast (anyone moaning about 150bhp need to check themselves), it’s comfortable, it’s a Suzuki so it’ll be reliable for years.. and yes the panniers don’t come with it but that’s the same on the GS that costs thousands more 🤦🏻♂️
Amazing how a few UA-camrs say "150bhp" and the sheep go "meeeeh" ?
Moore Mafia dyno'd one,130bhp... cost around £600 for the full fat!
You are right. I rode many BMWs, but would like to try this Suzuki. Can check my content. :)
The issue is motorcycles are bifurcating into cheap options like the raft of middleweight twins etc and expensive toys for the wealthy. Suzuki is kind of stuck in the middle offering neither a premium brand or experience and not being especially cheap either.
@@morri03 I would just agree. This is happening quite for some time now. Drop by bro, you may like my content. :)
@@morri03how about we don’t give a shit about market positioning and just ride a bike if we like it?
Good to seeMossy again!
the joystick like left control is imho the best out of all the 4 japanese marques!!
Intuitive, tactile and fun to use !!
The man speaks his mind, thx Mossy.
Chris Moss is a keeper! Great, balanced review with a touch of class 🙂
Mossy Please get your own channel!!!
Top notch review!
It is not love at the first sight, but for sure one that will buy one will fall in love very quickly. Overall a great job from Suzuki. It was time. I would love to try one. Great video.
I just had my ninja1000sx written off after a minor bump. Will definitely be trying one of these next spring.
Finally, a dream bike. I absolutely loved the GSXS motor but couldn't part with the crossover/street-adventure riding posture and practicality of my bike. This is just perfect!
Great review. That colour scheme puts me in mind of the old GSX550ES from the 80s. (Showing my age there!)
We need more Mossy doing reviews!
Not sure about that, mate! Chris, where are you?
Lovely straight forward and honest review, thanks. I’m sure your observations are spot on. Rides well and does it all but……. I thought it would be slightly cheaper tbh but that’s inflation for you. Cheers
Nice to see a review on my back roads :))
Passed you on and the group on Monday around Guincho with my GSX-8S hehe
I'm sure it inherits the mild cams of the S1000 (2021+) and the smaller diameter throttle bodies of the S1000 (2021+) and I'm sure Suzuki has tuned the secondary throttle flies to choke the bottom and choke the top for the Euro5/6 tyrants. I'm sure Suzuki has fitted small exhaust header inner diameters.
If you could reverse all that stuff you'd get your X-factor and character back. You'd unleash some of the K5 monster hidden in there.
I see this as the Japanese answer to the S1000XR, but without all the horsepower.
This bike and some RoadSmart 4's ❤
Well done Mossy! 👍
So you cannot find any negatives, well never mind that, you go ahead and accuse it of character lacking? and the reason is that it’s not European! You don’t even try to hide your bias. My next bike for the character of the legendary K5 Mill alone, and regardless of your opinion, cheers.
I hope at one day they will use the same setup(screen/suspension) for V-strom
How is it compared to Versys 1000, planning to get d V1k SE 2024..
or should I wait for the GX to arrive at my local dealers
Great to see Mossy.
The personality is it is bulletproof and wont leave you stranded on the road. Or stuck in recall hell. 150hp k5 derived engine with skyhook? Sign me up. Add s23 tires and brembo master cylinder.
Great review again Mossy. Agreed there should be an “on the go” adjustable screen, but should be a great bike.
How does it compare with the GSXS 1000 GT? Is it as more comfortable as one would expect? Is it any less agile?
I would give up "character" for consistent, smooth, reliable performance ANY day. By the time you lay out a few 500-mile trips, those character attributes would no doubt become the very things that bug the sh*t out of you over time. I've been through a few rigs over my 50 years of street riding and I've sold with contempt a few that were emotionally engaging at the beginning because of their quirks. A bike that more than does the job without annoying me is the one to buy.
I agree. I want a well refined bike without character.
It's because of my British and Italian bikes that I've developed a habit of getting home before sundown. Thanks Lucas Electric!
18,499 here in the US. Let's think about it. Yah, ya, ya your getting the k5 powerplant. Trouble is, it's had it's nuts cut out of it. Then they decided to slap a half baked windscreen on it. If you want to adjust it, well now you have to pull over and loosen screws. Lmao. 🤣
Enjoyed the Vid. Kept expecting Frank Sidebottom to appear though. 😉
We can thank the new Euro emissions for the lack of "rock and roll". Like my GT, this GX will require an ECU flash to remove the neutering and actually get it closer to the personality of the old K5 engine.
Seriously considering it as a replacement for my Africa Twin. Wanna experience an in line four and time is running out. This bike looks excellent 🎉
Been waiting patiently for this review
Question. At 07:03 you both have the A -modus (sporty mode right?) and the suspensions manually set to "passenger/pillion"... Whilest driving through a city enter with no passenger...
Was there any specific reason for this?
Most launch rides are always impressive. A Luke warm launch report means probably best to give this bike a miss
Chops has said Suzuki only wanted them to plod around as well
As a Gixxus gt owner, it's a real shame the pegs are so high - would have been better if they went for more comfort imo.
Yeah, at 6'2", 1.88m, I'm wondering the same. I'm hopeful there's some way to gain some more legroom on this bike, because it looks be a great bike for touring.
At that price point a Yamaha MT-10 S, add bags and you have that spark.
How’s it compare with the BMW s1000xr ?
Give Mossy a tour with this bike!
I'm waiting to see the mad bloke Northovers review of the bike.
Good someone else who is not a giant in height anyway but certainly in experience and character ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland 😁
Nice to see mossy
I’m told you can’t get a top box for this bike? True?
I love your pragmatic/tell-it-like-it-is reviews, which IMO are always pretty spot-on. For me, it seems to be a very impressive motorcycle. However (being a downer) with its US price of approximately $18.5K (which is getting up there in price), one may ask why not spend another approximate $3K/ $4K for the BMW S1000XR, which may be a bit more exciting/ faster, and has some more electronics & 3-year warranty?
Portugal ❤ nice review !
I am here eagerly waiting for Chris Northover vs Mat Watson Racing against each other. 🏍️vs🚙
Hello Mossy, how's yer arse for spots?
Thoughtful review, top man.
This bike needs a white and gold paint sceme and a pipe with a tune. The k5 engine is realy a gem for tuning.. “Hoegee” in The Netherlands can tune them to 180 HP. That would be great to rival the euro bikes in this segment😏😏
Yeah I mean 150hp for a crossover are absolutely unsatisfying, you need at least 50 more to chug along with 2” chicken strips on the back.
Great review!
Why no center stand?
it's an optional
Stay in Portugal weather looks way better than England have a couple of games of Bingo see you back here in March
Bro, bike price ?
Centerstand an option?
yes , i can see at my local dealer that center stand is an option, comfort seat, billet brake levers, short screen, grip heater, low seat , frame front and rear sliders , front tank bag small and large, fuel tank protections(different styles), wheel decals , panniers and that's it from my local dealer. They said it will be available in Feb
As an engineer i would pull my hair out. "A bit too refined" and not enough character with 150hp? WTF. And when the bikes have "character" that often translates into less than perfect fueling, more vibrations, more noise etc that gets tiresome on long rides. And of course, in the long term, these "character" features then also get criticized. This seems like a close-to-perfect bike and is on the short list for my next purchase.
I was set on buying a Tracer 9 GT but I think I should try one of these as well. The Yamaha engine does appeal to me a bit more though
Why not get both?
@@adderhoneywhy do we need 2 motorcycles from same segment
@@midhungopan9270 You don't need it, but if someone wants to do it then why not?
Suzuki? No dealer network up here (North of Scotland), so that’s a pain in the heated seat! I quite fancy one of these, but a 400-mile round trip to have my nipples twiddled?…Nah. I can feel a Tracer 9 GT+ creeping up on me…spanner-work in Inverness (Mitchell’s Motorcycles 👍👍) 🏴
Thanks for the video. Really fancied this bike but the price my local dealer reckons (couldnt say for sure) im looking at by the time i bolt panniers, rack, center stand and heated grips on it... put my off tbh, see how it is on test ride.
I totally agree. I usually look at what else I can get for the same price, both new or almost new, and for me there are numerous other bikes I would buy before this bike.
£14.5k without heated grips, major slip up for me
@@dansmith4392offering heated grips for free in the uk until end of jan or something along them lines
top speed with gps?
Really good review -thanks
How was it a good interview??? 😂😂😂 Absolutely gash
Sorry, mate, but this review...somehow the shit hit the fan. You rode a bike with the best engine of all time and superb suspension but still didn't get it. Better luck next time!
Am I wrong to think it’s brilliant bike to buy after it’s been used for 20 000 kilometers or so?
Interesting review. Always enjoy Mossy's honest take. Looks like a decent bike, although somewhat confused as a few reviews have said it lacks character but the engine is identical to the GT which apparently has quite a bit of character so possibly it's the chasis? I think maybe it's just not different enough from the GT so is essentially nothing new as I know that engine has bags of character.
Likely more vibration got quelled, more rubber mounting etc.
Or they have to say something bad and that's all they got, they're sponsored journalists, after all.
They have to hype up the euro trash.
Centre stand?
Extra.
😂Mossy! He's just the best
SUZUKI.......................please please please build a GT/GX with the 1340 cc Hayabusa motor!!!!!!!!
Why Aye Man, priceless 👍
I think the GT covers the sport touring segment very well. The GX is way too similar and looks like a cross breed between an adventure bike and sports tourer while not really hitting either mark. I think Suzuki should of came out with a larger, lower, more comfortable bike that competes with larger tourers. I don’t think the motorcycle community will embrace this bike. Great review, no surprises!
That's exactly what it's supposed to be - crossover as Suz calls it. That suspension, if as advertised, will make all the difference you need, I assure you. This is closer to the Bandit successor I've been looking for than the GT.
It's ultimately supposed to be an alternative to BMW's S1000XR, if only they'd got a bit more out of that engine because I get a feeling it's going to leave me somewhat underwhelmed when I test ride one (I currently own a S1000XR,).
@@dstev55yeah I own the XR also, loved it until the soft cams issue, I now can't wait to get rid
I really like the ergos and wanted something like a Tracer 9 GT but with more power. However in the US this is $4k more than a GT+ which comes with panniers (and you can get for $12k).
Price is a little bit too much...
As a Tracer owner , they just missed the Target I feel. It's good just not good enough. Manual screen ? Really.... soft bottom end and characterless 4 cylinder. Why would you choose this over a Tracer GT or even a GT+ ? I'll keep mine thanks.
@@CharlieboySLONDON i would not call the engine character less. I used to own a 2018 mt09 and got a gsxs1000 after that one. There is a lot of power and character to that engine. Super smooth and powerful. Mt09 was gutless in comparison ass 8krpm and the suzuki still had plenty of torque early on.
Keep in mind, if I read correctly, the US is only getting the +...so that $18.5K US includes bags... I'm a big cheapo, but 4k for bags, cruise, and electronic suspension (and IMU) seems fairly acceptable.
Great review, as for characterless might just sell it to me 🤣😂 I currently own an S1000xr absolutely loved it UNTIL the dreaded soft cams, no longevity in the bmw engine, so the characterless GX with a proven engine could for me👍🏻
From this review id say that this bike is ford among other bikes. But i put my all hopes in this model cause i did not like tracer gt+,cant wait to try and sell my gs. Now i’m reading comments below it looks like there is more people like me😂🤙
I almost need a translator
Nice, jolly ole chap 😉
Budget tourer, with some nice additions, heated grips are extra (although they’re offering them free of charge at the moment), suspension is a winner, good looking dash, pegs are too high with a rigid screen why would you do that Suzuki. Worth the money, but it’s near some premium Euro base models…..
Want one !!
Maybe they should go back to naming bikes after sushi.
Too bad about the lack of character ... maybe this can be changed with mapping and/or an aftermarket pipe. Cheers!
Please next time bring someone who can talk and actually be understood
These bikes could be proportioned to be adventure bikes.
Portugal roads
Have you got a cold? Blow ya nose!
Sounds to me like you were begging for a long term loaner. 😂
Nice review all told in layman’s speak 😊 the way I like it
I hope this Gixxer-Gix sells well.
At its price point and non adjustable screen and lack of soup , why would you chose this over a Tracer GT+ ? I feel they missed the Target here. Doesnt even come with Panniers, heated grips and an adjustable screen ! Its bonkers.
When Suzuki start doing deals with all the extras ticked for 12k or so they’ll sell a truck load at 14500 bare I can’t see people buying them unless they do the typical 2% or less apr finance they always seem to do
Fuel tank a bit small
MOSSYYY
He’s a treasure….😂
Lovely review, Mossy, but if the best you can say is that you would like the bike after being stuck with it long enough to form an illogical emotional investment into it is code for, "let's not piss off Suzuki, but I would only stick with her if forced into an arranged marriage against my will "
It's not made for the people with long legs. It looks like I would be cramped on it with my 188 cm height.😢
I’m thinking the same, I have a 35in inseam. I’m trying to get out of my multistrada 1260 because it needs the desmo service, but can’t quite find a perfect replacement
Mossy = automatic 👍
Suzuki making the same mistake with the screen, they'll learn one day ;-)
Listen! Mossy's got a cold and that's why he doesn't love the Suzuki! I'm 168cm, is that tall enough to get a foot down?
Look.. Its a modern bike and modern bike have no souls, they left those behind in the 90s.. Nice bike all the same.. If you want something with character buy a moto guzzi...
I’m sorry to say this, but are you joking? This is supposed to be professional review…
This is K5 inline-4, typical Japanese inline-4. You gotta Rev it. 80km with 4th gear? You kidding? Of course there is no character. How come you test it like this, utterly limited information. 😂
K-5 has been known for the power pattern waking up above 4000-4500rpm. This is very noticeable power-band character. It has rev limit of 12-13000rpm.
Please review better. I expect better from Bike World. You might point out that the engine has less character below 4000rpm which is common for inline 4. But you gotta at least also point out the engine wakes up and push you hard above the range.
Please bring Chris, who knows how to ride a bike. It’s good to criticize the bike but not okay to review a bike without even riding properly.
I think Chris Northover would respect the massive experience and abilities of Chris Moss.
@@rossm9676 I think so. Honestly that’s why it’s difficult to believe this review is from Moss. Again, this K5 engine, no matter what suzuki you pick, you gotta rev it! Then we talk. I can’t believe he puts 4th around 80kmh.
In case of Katana, a couple of years ago, Suzuki even amended the fuel map largely to give more low-mid (below 4000) range power. Still Katana has wake up zone around 4500rpm. This engine is happy around 7000rpm - 10500rpm range.
Actually what I expect from this review is how the bike behaves above 160km and above 200kms high speed, and the cornering ability. These two have been Suzuki with K5s known weakness for certain models - basically too powerful engine for not strong enough frame.
This K-5 is a textbook example of Japanese Inline4 - supposed to be vibrationless, quiet under low rpm - so the rider should rev it high and keep it that way to make the engine alive.
@@Chambers36TheEnter So,
BMW S1000XR does not have the character, and Ducati Multistrada does not have the character… or whatever engine with more than 2 would have no character. Do you know Any Bike with more than 2-cylinder that has a character when you drive like the review? 70-80kms with 4th gear and up? Yamaha CP3 (of course cp4) and literally ALL hondas are even sleeping if one puts 4th around 80kmh.
So what’s the deal? Instead of this weakness, these bike will have strength above certain rpm that Twins do not have.
For example all suzuki k5 enigne above 4500rpm will have incredible pull and great stock exhaust sound. Literally all proper reviewers point out “how the hell Suzuki pass this exhaust sound with EU5?” to note this character.
Any bike that has a character around 80kms with 4th might be Harley big twin. Or something like that. Even BMW R-engine is a sleeper around this range. So I still don’t get what a reviewer is talking about. At least I wish Moss gives Any Example to compare… This is why I honestly think this review is so sub-standard.
G'wan the Moss
No adjustable screen, only with tools, no heated grips, no sat nav. On a bike like this? Come on.
Nice looking bike, not intimidating. And quite an objective presentation. Thanks
