i was at this game Cruyiff made all those great players look like sunday morning side
I remember that own goal as clear as day. It’s burnt into my soul.
2 fantastic sides been to highbury many times with wolves one of the great grounds
Football was so different in the days before all seated grounds. As a boy I was taken to highbury by my dad religiously where we stood in the same spot at the clockend with a group of family and friends. One mid week flood lit game stands out in my mind still some forty years later. I think it was an early round league cup tie against Leicester but I can't be 100%sure because it's not the match that stays in my mind. It was the atmosphere and the massive crowd. Over 52,000 were crammed into highbury that night although the official capacity was somewhat nearer to 40. I will never forget that night for as long as I live. It was crazy, so packed, so loud, so exciting, verging on a little bit scary for a 7 or 8 year old. I had to be passed over head by the crowd down to the front with some other kids and we sat pitch side so we were safe and could see the game..I'm sure we won of course! Could you imagine anything like that happening these days. lol ! What memories!

Good effort by us against a great Ajax side. 6 of that team played in the World Cup in 74, 5 in the final. Would have been 8 but Hulshoff was injured and Muhren pulled out of squad. But Cruyff was in a class of his own. We missed Ball who may have signed too late to be eligible and I assume McNab and Radford were injured.
Gerrie Muhren was supposed to be in the team for the 1974 world cup but after the 73-74 ended, his son got sick, so he prefered to stay with his family.
Our best after Istanbul 06 disgrace.
Charlie George Forever!
No one left early

This match is great example of times when English players have terrible bad long range shoots. Conditions were of course poor too and looks like width of just 64 meters (201 ft) of Highbury made it hard for Ajax to play their "total football". Their defence was better with only that one terrible mistake just after match kick off , that might have changed the script of the match.
The best team ever and the best player in the world of all times: Johan Cruijff!!!!
Arie Haan was better
@@fkthelefties Hahahahahahahahaha, I am sorry, I can't stop laughing
