Sooo beautiful: The soloist(s), the two precious instruments, and the masterwork by my favorite composer, with flawless orchestral balance and support. It's an historical recording. The sound engineering is excellent, such that nothing was lost to the recording process; all the music is captured.
Brava to the wonderful Anne Akiko Myers! I think that most of the time I could clearly differentiate between the 2 violins. I actually tried the "Molitor" on 2 occasions (prior to Ms. Myers acquiring it). A couple of seasons ago I performed the Bach double with a colleague and orchestra. Playing 2nd, I chose from my collection my 2010 Vittorio Villa. Made on a del Gesu model, its round, deep, noble tone perfectly fulfilled the mezzo role. Had I played 1st I would have chosen my 2011 Vittorio Villa. A close copy of an Amati, it has a bright, cutting quality, not unlike the Molitor, whereas my 2010 really approaches a fine del Gesu. But Ms. Myers' tone is beautiful on any violin that she plays!

These are the types of violinists that inspire me to get better at violin. Bravo!
