Hey Gordon and Doug, Do you think I should upgrade to x-h1 or wait for x-t3. I don't shoot vids but I would like to use my vintage Nikon lenses adapted. I'm not a pro.
Shorter one. I like many people don't have the kind of time to go through the whole video, but if I come back to it. I have to find the last location. A shorter video is easier for me to finish one and launch another part easily.
Just bought the X-H1 for just under 1200$ incl. the grip and two extra batteries. And it's not just one store that have the bundle for that price, it seems like Fuji has dropped the price dramatically. Of course it is 1.5 years older now, but seen in the light that the Sony A7 III still costs 2150$ here in Sweden, the Fuji + grip bundle seems like pretty much camera for the money to me - and I also have a bunch of Fuji lenses since earlier. Edit: BTW - these extensive reviews are really a treat for tech nerd like me - I look at pretty much all of them, regardless if I am interested in the camera at hand or not. Keep up the good work! :)
Keep up the great reviews both of you. You're the only channel I know of that provides such objective, up-to-date and detailed reviews and I love watching them. By the way, being in the UK I'm loving the 1:1 conversion ratio for $:£ when it comes to camera prices, haha. ;)
Another great vid guys, always a pleasure ! I own an XT2 and even though the XH1 provides IBIS, touch screen and bigger grip (which were my minor complains from XT2), I will not upgrade. I am interested to see what Fuji is preparing for their XT3 :) I doubt Fujifilm would listen to my wish list but here it is for XT3 : - bigger battery - deeper grip - IBIS - BSI sensor for better low light performance - XH1 evf - larger buttons What do you have in store for us next Gordon & Doug ? Some Sony A7mark3 ? Some Lumix GX9 ? I understand it takes time for you to make it happen, but I already can't wait for the next one ! haha Thank you guys, love your content !
I know what you mean - the XH1 solved my issues with the Xt2, and yet, I think i'd still prefer the Xt2 for its size and charm. I reckon an XT3 would have the higher res viewfinder, probably cinema 4k, a touchscreen, bluetooth. I hope it would also debut a new battery and sensor, but I suspect IBIS won't squeeze in yet. All guesses.
For static vlogging, use the remote app and use a phone as a monitor. On a small stand it works at same level as camera. Thanks Gordon. Been a fan since 2010 and Doug, all the best!
Excellent review...I was hot to get A73 over this, but more images I see by Sony, more I steer towards X-H1. Sony is got long way yet, to get skin tons right. A73 is excellent on paper, but I'm not convinced to go for it, yet.
Brilliant review guys. I've had the X-H1 for about a week as my first Fujifilm camera, and I learned a thing or two here which I hadn't picked up by myself or from being 1/3 through the manual.
Thank you guys. I have mentioned the body is too large, I got people angry at me. I said the battery was too small. They call me trolling. I would have purchase the XH1 if the body is smaller and the battery larger, but I'll wait for now.
Gordon Laing And it is. However when mirrorless was develop, they mention it would be smaller than DSLR. In some ways, most of their cameras are, but a few are just as large or even larger. It's an APS-C, not full frame. I guess the technologies are still a bit behind.
Hi Gordon The horizontal panning IBIS option that Doug mentions is not only "optical lens stabilisation" as you call it around 44min. Sorry, but I have to agree with Doug. At least my EM1.2 (with 12-40/2.8) has this as an option "wrench > C2 > Image Stabilizer" where you can choose all axis, horizontal disabled, vertical disabled.
Good point, thanks for reminding me. As we spoke about it, I did have Olympus in the back of my mind, but I couldn't remember on the spot. I do however know none of the others offer this for their IBIS.
@@cameralabs it's a long way to Xh2.. so in the meanwhile a xh1 video review revisit.. Really because it's interesting and a pleasure to see it reviewed in a modern and updated style. 😊 It's already a camera well known in the used market, very actual. 🙂 Thank you for the great reviews by the way! 👍
@@nerdMike I'd like to revisit, but the commercial fact is each video takes me 1-2 weeks to make, so they need a certain number of views or donations to make them viable. Another review of a camera that's a couple of years old wouldn't make any money i'm afraid.
The problem isn't with vloggng with hybrid cameras. The problem is that every reviewer is essentially vlogging with a hybrid and they criticize EVERY single camera for not having a flippy screen and whatever else is a priority for them. A bigger problem is that only a few people give measured and balanced reviews. The result is that manufacturers who watch these reviews get a skewed perspective of what's on demand from potential buyers. To expand on that, every photographer who wants to add a voice to the choir essentially becomes a vlogger by using youtube, so there is a clear bias towards flippy screens and whatever else.
Excellent, honest and incisive review gentlemen, thank you for your time in doing this, it is appreciated. You are brilliant at reviewing. Oh and Gordon, that is me at 20:14 ;)
I don't mind long videos but long as they're focused and not full of off-topic rambling -- Also side note you forgot to mention it has dual processors. One is primarily used for ibis but can be used for other things as well (unless I missed you saying that)
I I could really appreciate a long review as long is related. You could have went to the whole manual on the H1 which would probably be more helpful then taken up time talking about The Sony Olympia and Panasonic cameras. In the books you publish are you using the same format as your video.
Hi Earl, I wondered how many people felt the same way so in my Canon M50 video asked whether people found my comparisons with other cameras useful and the response was overwhelmingly yes, so I'll be continuing with that approach. Sorry you don't find it useful. Don't forget I also have the best part of 20,000 words written about this camera in my review at cameralabs.com - this video is just a small part of it.
Gordon, you mentioned the ability to charge the X-H1's battery via Micro USB as a new feature, however I have always been able to charge my X-T2 over Micro USB. In fact it's on charge right now
Thank you for the excellent review. I think you covered all of the pros and cons perfectly. I am looking to move to mirrorless from my full frame Canon and so wanted to go to Fujifilm, but this camera is very disappointing compared to the competitors, the Sony A73 in particular. The battery is just ridiculous. Having to strap 3 batteries onto the body, making it probably bigger than my 5D3, to get a descent battery life and full function, is BAD. Then there is the focusing system. The Fujifilm cameras and lenses are beautifully made, but they have fallen too far behind the leading edge with this brand new flagship camera. I think they need to start releasing some rumours of a more promising X-T3 before they lose to many potential customers. I would love to see Fujifilm do well. They are a great company and would be better to deal with than some others.
I think the XH1 is too expensive when compared to the A7III. 100 quid extra gets you a huge amount more! I have the XT2 and X100F which I dearly love, but I don't think I could justify the extra money for the XH1 especially when there are more compelling bodies out there at the same point.
Hi Gordon and Doug, fantastic review as always. I also wish they had taken the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger battery system like Sony; however, what is done is done. What I really would like to see is for Fuji to develop a new one piece battery cartridge for the battery grip like the Canon 1DX, Nikon D5 or the D850 grip battery with equivalent of 4 or more times of one W126S power. That would bring relief to the pain of running out of batteries or the need of changing batteries during all day shooting especially during cold winter days. I would buy two of those in a heartbeat and sell most of the W126S batteries!I work in a camera store so as much as I am tempted to switch to Sony full frame system like A9, A7R III and now A7 III, when I play with the Sony system the balance it just off and so is the pricing. The little things Fuji provides like: easier access dials and menu system, weather sealed body, stronger build, scratch resistance paint (I see plenty of scratched up Sony A7 series in the used section), higher resolution and clarity EVF, smooth and quick response shutter release button, super quiet and almost vibration free mechanical shutter, cheaper lens pricing, super lightweight and high quality glass on small prime lenses makes the system well balanced.I sold my Canon 5D3 due to heavy full frame lenses for X-T2 and sold the X-T2 for X-H1 now and been able to shoot handheld real estate photos with a 10-24mm (f5.6 = f8 full frame) at 1/4 and 1/2 second consistently without carrying a tripod is a dream come true for any real estate photographer (or any photographer!!). Sony system would be more expansive, not as wide (on a heavier but closer weight and size of 16-35mm f/4 lens), not as weather sealed, not as vibration damped or body/lens balanced, not as often firmware updated system. IMHO sensor quality along is not the be all and end all for a camera system (even though they sound very impressive), it's the little things that Fuji did not cheap out on the consumer that helps the system to be more user friendly, stabilized and balanced that matters to me. Again, IMHO.
Thanks George for your thoughtful comments, and I agree there's so much more to a system than just the sensor. I am interested in your experience with the 10-24mm though as it's the lens that least benefits from the X-H1's built-in stabilisation. Are you finding you can handhold it at slower shutter speeds on the X-H1 than the X-T2? It might be that the bigger grip is also making it easier to hold...
Hi Gordon. I do not believe the grip is the main contributor here as I shoot both X-T2 & X-H1 with the booster grip. I could never shoot X-T2 at the same shutter speed as the X-H1 with any of the 10 Fuji lenses I currently own. Would it be the combination of IBIS + Electronic Front Curtain + Shutter anti vibration system (again, the little things that Fuji do to help photographers to capture photos with less effort)? Maybe. One thing I forgot to point out is that my very first Fuji lens 18-135mm WR that usually gets soft at 135mm while shooting distance on X-E2, X-T1, X-T2 & X-T20 body before is now sharp!!! I was all ready to sell it off since the purchase of 16-55mm WR and now, I will be able to keep it as my all purpose walk around lens, thanks Fuji for the X-H1... odd but no explanation is needed, I am just happy it works perfect now!
Hi Guys, just to back Doug on a point he mentioned re the switchable stabilisation, my Panasonic G80/85 has the vertical only mode he spoke of that can be utilised when shooting video. Obviously it would also work when shooting a panorama shot. Just thought you'd like to know.
Excellent review! I agree with all of the points you made - especially about your concerns for lack of improvement in the battery - and agree that the XH-1 is at best a marginal improvement over the XT-2. However, it is only $300.00 more than the XT-2. So, the question is, is it$300.00 better than the XT-2? A second question would be if one is considering going with Fuji at the XT-2/XH-1 level is it worth it to spend the extra $300 for a camera, which at its worst, preserves (mostly) what is good about the XT-2 and adds at least some enhancements (IBIS, better grip, better video performance)?
I think the answer is, it depends what you are using it for. For me IBIS makes a huge difference on lenses such as the 16-55 or the 56 f1.2 which are both superb lenses but lack stabilization so it's definitely worth the price difference. Once IBIS will filter down to the X-T line the differences will be less relevant, so you'll only go for the X-H line if you really care about video and/or really need a big camera body..
You're thinking about this the right way: look at the benefits over the X-T2 and figure out if they're worth it for you personally. For me, I'd say the built-in IBIS is worth paying the extra for if I wanted to use the XF 16-55mm, XF 56mm and XF 90mm, but I've since gone for stabilised zooms instead. The movie enhancements are definitely worth having if you're into video. But for me there's the downside of size. It's got bigger and yet still faces battery, movie clip length and connectivity issues of the smaller X-T2. I actually find the X-T2 more charming to hold (and look at!) so personally I'd be happier using it and working around its issues.
the IBIS and the larger grip along is worth the $300.00. Sold my X-T2 and not regret on X-H1 even with little larger body and hardly noticeable additional weight. The "system" is now A LOT more balanced. Shooting at 1/4 & 1/2 second all the time for real estate photography, handheld! On X-T2, 1/30 or 1/15 to get a clean handheld shoot.
New subscriber here ! In mostly end the of 2019, after many hours of research i think that's the one for me . Is it the best ? i dont care if it is or not ! who define what's best !? ... For my need here in my sometimes cold and shitty weather where i like to shoot and perhaps pull a video under rain and snow, (Montreal that is) i think this one can handle these extreme still being careful with . The canon 90d came up this week and kinda disturbed my toughts and still is but should i take more time for more info about it ?... finnaly your reviews brought me here and helped me a lot. For this huge amount of work you put in and all the accurate information, thank you!
Hi, just on the app issues, it still seems to be a pain in march 2021, also when I used sony I had the app on more than one device and also at a prom told people what app to search for and sent them the pics, I doesn't seem possible to do that with fuji, great UA-cam channel 👍
I would be very interested, Gordon. I live in London and visit Brighton and Hove regularly. As a child I even stayed in Hove on many occasions with a great-aunt.
I would be surprised if there isn't an X-H2 this year with an X-Trans IV sensor (from the X-T3), so it may be worth waiting. This is pure speculation though.
Hi! Your a great inspiration in my photography. I need some really great advice right now, I have a Canon 5D4 + 24-70 f/2.8 which I bought for paid wedding assignments jobs. Due to some reasons I have left the photography job and the gear is sitting in my almirah collecting dust. I don't think I need that expensive gear now and is only blocking money. But still I have a lot of passion for photography and want to make short films. I need advice on should I sell my current gear and buy a cheaper gear like sony or fuji mirrorless?
If you can get a good price for it, then yes, I'd suggest going with something smaller and cheaper. if you want full-frame, go for the Sony A7 III. If not, then the wonderful Worlds of Fujifilm, Panasonic and Olympus open up, and there's some fantastic mid-range options at around $1000 body price, like the X-T20. Check out my guide to the best mirrorless cameras at www.cameralabs.com/best-mirrorless/
Yes, you will be able to make films and take photos to a high level with almost any camera. If video is your priority though, I feel Sony and Panasonic bodies are better.
I was just at the camera store to have a look at the XH-1 with grip & 16 to 55, 2.8. I brought along my Nikon D7100 with grip and 17 to 55 2.8 to compare size & weight. Much to my surprise the XH-1 weight & size were almost exactly the same as the big Nikon rig. So much for Fuji small size. I then had a serious look at the Sony A7R 3 for size comparison. It is smaller lighter and full frame even with the 70 to 200 F4 Sony lens it felt a bit lighter than either of the Fuji or Nikon. This will be a dilemma for many and I see Sony taking an even bigger share of the market.
Why doesn't FUJI place clips on the body so that one can simply clip on the strap instead of the silly current arrangement.......PENTAX 6X7 had this since early 1970s.......isn,t this nicer, more practical and simpler all round ??? It,s really mind boggling why such improvements are not considered when XH1 was designed ? They hv it for GFX 50 model.
Good question! I think the out-of-camera colours and tones are arguably a bit nicer, there's an interval timer, long exposures without having to use Bulb, the top screen, the side tilting screen, more touch controls...
Gordon Laing thanks. I shoot Fuji, completely love it. I'm trying to steer my brother towards an xh1 but his head keeps getting turned by the A73. On paper that makes total sense. He's not buying my "fuji magic" argument...
Thomas Hill ha ha on paper yes but side by side the Sony looks like toy, a very good one but still a toy. The biggest downer that Gordon pointed out is the battery life on the X-H1.
One reason would be if you have an investment in Fuji lenses and other bodies. Another would be if you want the best out-of-camera JPEGs and Fuji's film simulations. OTOH, the JPEGs from the latest Sonys (A9, A7mkIII) are getting pretty good.
It's very tempting now that it is down to $999 with grip and two extra batteries. Also I have read that the IBIS was improved with a firmware update. I would love to have that IBIS with my prime lenses. Even if an X-H2 is released, it may be much more expensive.
Ya' dead right mate! Not the best I've heard at Aussie twang (24 min / 40 secs) but I'll forgive ya' for hav'n a crack aye. Afterall you are a Pom so it's all good. I am a tad late to the party as I am upgrading from an XT2 I bought 7 years ago but having a 'feel' of the XH2 in my local camera store @ Brisbane (July 2023) just feels way too plastic and 'toy' which is NOTHING like the previous X series bodies before it. I don't know where Fuji are going with this but I don't like it not to mention I think they have lost touch or dare I say 'Focus' even though yes the XH2 nails it in their latest AF algorithms/ AI. I understand they are going lighter and keeping up with the higher video specs for contemt creators but they've really lost touch with their stills roots which is a real shame. Where I am going with this is I like a bit of weight to my gear including in glass as to me it screams better build quality, besides coming from an EOS system of the mid to late 90's I am use to a bit of 'beef' in my gear. In saying that though I hope to invest in an Xpro series body for travel / street & family shooting situations where I require a lighter set up. I do hope the Xpro4 does drop come late 2023 or early 2024 with any luck and that stays 'true' to a photography ONLY design with maybe a real basic video operation. Anyway, great in-depth review by you fine 'lads' or as I would say here down under 'blokes' I've thoroughly enjoyed the discussion.
Thanks, and sorry for the terrible accent, I don't know why I tried that! The beauty of Fujifilm's lineup is they really do offer more variety of bodies and form factors than any other system I know, so you will find one hopefully to your taste! There'll definitely be a new X-Pro at some point, surely in the next year.
Gordon Laing Yes I think People who pay this kind of money for a camera are all ready familiar with or know about others products and have already done their research and have decided on a particular model.
There are certainly some who've already decided on a particular model, but others who haven't and find pros and cons and comparisons useful. I actually asked in my Canon M50 in-depth video if people found the comparisons useful and the response was overwhelmingly yes. So I'll continue doing them. Sorry if you don't enjoy this approach..
Very nice video. I would like to buy you a coffee. But our country has banned paypal. F... politics. Here is my question Gordon & Doug. I love my XF 16-55 mm lens. And I currently have the XT2. But the XT2 and the 16-55mm is quite a mismatch. Physical wise. So I bought the battery grip. Now it is so to say ok. But I really want to know if the IBIS worth the upgrade?
It depends how much you shake! If you do shake a lot or want to film video or want to shoot with slower shutter speeds AND you mostly have lenses without OIS, then YES I'd say it's worth it. PS - thanks for trying to support us - if you like the look of my book, you might be interested in a copy!
great lenses. Really nice out of camera JPEGS and color (my a6500 sometimes has this gross green tint in the skin tones). The "analog" controls are nicer to use.
Gordon Laing your review is quite discouraging as at XT-2 shooter. I do not get any sense that you think it’s worth upgrading to this camera. I do get a strong feeling that you believe the Sony A7iii is s much better camera. Although I do not believe you mentioned the quality of the Fujifilm glass in comparison to Sony. And if I am going to buy the Sony A7iii I am going to be spending a lot more money for lenses. So my question is am I going to get that much better of an image and video with a complete system change.
Hi Brad, I consider myself an X-T2 shooter as it's one of the bodies I've spent a lot of time with and still one of my favourites. In my X-T2 review, my only complaints at the time were a lack of IBIS and a touchscreen, both of which are resolved here on the X-H1, and yet, I still didn't feel totally convinced by it as an upgrade for that model. The sensor, battery and (most of the) AF are the same as before, so you really have to ask yourself if there's enough there for you to justify upgrading, and if you're willing to accept a larger body too. Sure if you're upgrading from a mid-range body or an older series, like the X-T1, then yes, there's a lot of benefits, but for X-T2 owners, not so much. I would only upgrade from the X-T2 if I really wanted the IBIS and if I mostly shot with the bigger lenses (which are a better physical match for the larger body). Again you also need to ask yourself about alternatives. As you know, the Sony A7 III is the one to beat now, and while the best Sony lenses are larger and more expensive, there are some very competitive ones in the range. For example, the Sony FE 24-105mm f4G OSS is roughly the same price, size and quality as the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f2.8, delivers a similar depth-of-field, but actually extends a little further. There's also a cheaper 50mm prime for the Sony, that's brighter too vs the XF 35mm f2. Is the image quality better? Yes at higher ISOs, but I'm perfectly satisfied by the quality from the X-Trans III. For me the real benefits of the A7 III over the X-H1 are the bigger battery, faster shooting, better autofocus, working wireless, longer movie clips etc. I do completely understand the upheaval of changing systems though, and if you're invested in Fujifilm, I'd stick with it. I would expect an X-T2 successor within a year, hopefully as soon as Photokina in September, and while it's unlikely to have IBIS, I would be disappointed if the next generation didn't debut a new sensor and battery tech. This is however pure speculation.
Gordon Laing thank you so very much for taking time to write this response to me Gordon. I really appreciate it. You have helped me greatly in my decision making process. You are the best!!!
100 percent the evf cant go back the a73 is really shaken things up full frame evf and.....a lot the extra reach and weight and price of the mft lenses so rarely mentioned love my pan 100 to 300 which becomes 600 mm full frame eat mft dust full frame. If they can get some fast light lenses wow return serve a73?
Yes a few months ago I sold my Leica and Canon systems and went over to Fuji. I have seven Fuji bodies and 11 Fuji lenses. They have a great ecosystem.
Man, what a negative review. I'm so glad I never watched this until now. If I had watched it before I bought my two X-H1 bodies (about a month ago), I may have never bought them! I sold off my two X-T2's so I could have my 16-55 and 90mmF2 stabilised. I am so stoked, FOR ME the X-H1 is absolutely brilliant. I just love the feel of it, the grip, that magical shutter, the beautiful images and the extra weather sealing and heft. I have been shooting for over 30 yrs now and was sad when I had to sell my beautiful Nikon D3X (too heavy with the 70-200), and opted for the smaller Fuji system. That was yrs ago and after slowly moving up from X-Pro1, Xe2, X-T1, X-T2 - I'm feeling I've finally arrived with the X-H1 bodies. I can actually say now after all of these years I've found a camera I like even more than my D3X!! I don't wish for anything else, they focus fast, reliable, batteries don't worry me, I just carry a few spares, and now I have image stabilisation my images are so much sharper (especially on the 90mm). I think you could have concentrated a little more on some of the positives Gordon and not make the few negative things sound so dire. Non of them are deal-breakers! Philip
It's all about personal choices and finding what works for you. I didn't get on with the X-H1 as much as I wanted, but there's still a lot I liked about it, and I talked about both the pros and cons equally. Maybe you're used to seeing more sycophantic videos on YT! If you watch my other reviews you'll know I have a lot of love for Fujifilm and am generally very positive about most of their cameras. But I'm happy for you none-the-less as you've found a product that works for you - that's the important thing.
@@cameralabs Yea thanks for that Gordon and I agree. It is a very personal thing. I'm not a pro, I just have a crazy passion for photography. I guess somebody feeding their kids from photography may have a different view on the H1, as any missed images may mean they go hungry for that week. Keep up the great tests - you have a very balanced and relaxed style. Philip
this is a conversational format where one person who has tested it, talks to another person about it. It's designed more as a podcast format, but I agree it doesn't work as well as I'd hoped as a technical review format, so now I do reviews by myself and reserve the conversations for podcasts about general stuff. Check out my X-T30 or X-Pro3 reviews for an idea of my more recent style.
Seeing how your hands shake Gordon it's a shame you didn't find a career in gynecology. You could have bought a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people. :0
With respect - just buy a Sony Gordon. The X-H1 is a superb camera that makes great PICTURES. I could not care less about video, I want a camera to take still images and that is what the X-H1 does. If I want to buy a HIFI I would look at Sony but buying a camera I will stick with a company that makes great cameras and understands photography.
In a further development, I tested the buffer flush times of both slots and Slot 1 is indeed a little faster, but only about 25% faster. On the Sony A7 III, Slot-2 was half the speed of Slot-1.
Ha ha ha, have you actually tried doing this? The lag makes it impossible for any kind of usable feedback when you and or the camera are moving, so it's simply not a practical solution. Why are comments like these done by incompetent people?
Depnding on the camera the connection will not last as long as you would it have. The intimate synchronization of camaera, eye and hand will not occur, it is a sort of privaze detective voyeurism!

I prefer the longer ones.
I enjoy the longer ones, personally.
Hey Gordon and Doug, Do you think I should upgrade to x-h1 or wait for x-t3. I don't shoot vids but I would like to use my vintage Nikon lenses adapted. I'm not a pro.

By the way, being in the UK I'm loving the 1:1 conversion ratio for $:£ when it comes to camera prices, haha. ;)
Thanks Andrew, glad you like the videos!
I love the size of the xh1. It's easier to hold and if you have to plug away all day, it's a lot more comfortable than other fuji cameras.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Very useful and informative. Keep up the great work.
Another great vid guys, always a pleasure !
I own an XT2 and even though the XH1 provides IBIS, touch screen and bigger grip (which were my minor complains from XT2), I will not upgrade. I am interested to see what Fuji is preparing for their XT3 :)
I doubt Fujifilm would listen to my wish list but here it is for XT3 :
- bigger battery
- deeper grip
- IBIS
- BSI sensor for better low light performance
- XH1 evf
- larger buttons
What do you have in store for us next Gordon & Doug ? Some Sony A7mark3 ? Some Lumix GX9 ? I understand it takes time for you to make it happen, but I already can't wait for the next one ! haha
Thank you guys, love your content !
And yes, our next video will probably be A7 III or Canon M50.
thanks for your insights, Gordon
i'm afraid fuji has made it pretty clear that there won't be IBIS in the T3. read about it in many forums and videos :)

For static vlogging, use the remote app and use a phone as a monitor. On a small stand it works at same level as camera. Thanks Gordon. Been a fan since 2010 and Doug, all the best!
As always a comprehensive and unbiased review - always reliable reviews
Fabulous review and revealed features I probably would have never found. Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
This camera will be ideal for me for product photography business.
Absolutely fantastic deep dive. :). Thanks very much.
There is exposure compensation. Push small button next to shutter release and turn the wheel. Best camera ever
Gordon - The “street price” of the X-H1 from B&H Photo is only $1,649. And as of 8/22 B&H has a used X-H1 available for about $1,400 (9+ Condition).
Thanks, you're very welcome! I hope you'll be happy with it!
PS - check out my review at cameralabs.com for even more info!
I'll do. Thanks. :-)
Thank you guys. I have mentioned the body is too large, I got people angry at me. I said the battery was too small. They call me trolling. I would have purchase the XH1 if the body is smaller and the battery larger, but I'll wait for now.
Body size is a personal preference, but there's no denying the battery is weak compared to rivals now!
Gordon Laing And it is. However when mirrorless was develop, they mention it would be smaller than DSLR. In some ways, most of their cameras are, but a few are just as large or even larger. It's an APS-C, not full frame. I guess the technologies are still a bit behind.
They also want to appeal to DSLR owners, and they say mirrorless is too small!
Great work guys, Just like to add that the 15 min exposure time is already featured on the XT2 and Xpro2 via firmware update.
Thanks for the update - and thanks Fuji for the update too!
1 hour.... Fucking hell this is UA-cam not Netflix, guys! Haha. Love it! Thanks for a great in-depth review!! :-)
Hi Gordon
The horizontal panning IBIS option that Doug mentions is not only "optical lens stabilisation" as you call it around 44min.

It w'd be great Gordon to watch an updated review of the X-H1 in 2021. A new video with your actual review style and format. 🙂🙂
Hopefully there'll be an XH2 at some point in the future!
@@cameralabs it's a long way to Xh2.. so in the meanwhile a xh1 video review revisit.. Really because it's interesting and a pleasure to see it reviewed in a modern and updated style. 😊 It's already a camera well known in the used market, very actual. 🙂
Thank you for the great reviews by the way! 👍
@@nerdMike I'd like to revisit, but the commercial fact is each video takes me 1-2 weeks to make, so they need a certain number of views or donations to make them viable. Another review of a camera that's a couple of years old wouldn't make any money i'm afraid.
@@cameralabs I understand. 👍👍
Thank goodness it's not in 3 parts, You Guys are my favourite on UA-cam.
Thanks! Yes, as you've noticed, it's back to a single part as a tester. I'm guessing you prefer that way?
Gordon Laing yes I prefer it in one, I hate the 3 parts.
Gordon what is the quality of the rear screen like (sharpness brightness) like. Is it better than the A73.
my dream camera
The problem isn't with vloggng with hybrid cameras. The problem is that every reviewer is essentially vlogging with a hybrid and they criticize EVERY single camera for not having a flippy screen and whatever else is a priority for them. A bigger problem is that only a few people give measured and balanced reviews. The result is that manufacturers who watch these reviews get a skewed perspective of what's on demand from potential buyers. To expand on that, every photographer who wants to add a voice to the choir essentially becomes a vlogger by using youtube, so there is a clear bias towards flippy screens and whatever else.
What is your view on Panasonic vs Fuji? May be Panasonic gx9 vs xt2/20/xe3/x100f? For street photography & filmmaking.
What’s your thoughts on this camera now that it’s been reduced to $999.00 US. That’s with battery grip and 3 batteries?
I don’t skip ads when I watch your vids!!!!
Thanks Marie, I appreciate your support!
Excellent, honest and incisive review gentlemen, thank you for your time in doing this, it is appreciated. You are brilliant at reviewing.
Oh and Gordon, that is me at 20:14 ;)
Ha ha, you're welcome! I thought I heard a groan out there!
How many stops of improvement do you get with IBIS on and IOS on in a lens with IOS?
I don't mind long videos but long as they're focused and not full of off-topic rambling --
Also side note you forgot to mention it has dual processors. One is primarily used for ibis but can be used for other things as well (unless I missed you saying that)
All cameras have multiple processors these days.
Gordon Laing to my knowledge this is the only camera at this time that has dual processors
In fact it's on charge right now
YES! You're right, and I even described it in my XT2 review. I forgot here, sorry!
Love this format. Love Doug. The best thing Frederick Van Johnson ever did was step aside for the Gordon and Doug coupling.
Glad you enjoy the show!
{Blushing)
I love this videos, so entertaining and useful
You still don’t like it now that it’s just $999 with the grip and after all the firmware updates???
Love ur reviews!!!😍 But one bothers me @08:29 "No real time tracking with DSLR"??? What do all the Nikon D500 user or sportscameras do? 🤨
I prefer the xt-20 or xt-2 because they are smaller. Great video!!!! Thanks sgain
Thanks! Yeah, the X-T20 is a lovely little camera.
I prefer X-H1
Regarding the Bluetooth functionality, it is now completely revamped and updated with newer firmware.
The shutter is definitely more damped than before, so that could help...
Hi Guys, just to back Doug on a point he mentioned re the switchable stabilisation, my Panasonic G80/85 has the vertical only mode he spoke of that can be utilised when shooting video. Obviously it would also work when shooting a panorama shot. Just thought you'd like to know.
Thanks, Al!
You're welcome, Doug. I'm disappointed though as I was convinced that Gordon was infallible.
It's an incredibly good value 9/19 at $999.00 with grip and 3 batteries and vastly improved firmware and AF.
I agree
@@cameralabs Even more of a value now at 700.
@@sclogse1 sure! Be aware an XH2 is rumoured in next 6-12 months.
Michael K and Geico Features for the best😳😳😳👍🏾. Nice review
One minute in and I don't plan to buy that camera, but I will watch it till the end anyway. :)
Why thankyou!
Thanks! I should have my 90D review finished in a week or so, if you'd like to wait!
It's 2021 and I still want this camera... Letting the prices go ridiculous so I can grab a bargain haha
Hi, just on the app issues, it still seems to be a pain in march 2021, also when I used sony I had the app on more than one device and also at a prom told people what app to search for and sent them the pics, I doesn't seem possible to do that with fuji, great UA-cam channel 👍
Not only do we want more Doug (and more Gordon of course) we want photo walks in Brighton lead by Gordon.
I could arrange that...
I would be very interested, Gordon. I live in London and visit Brighton and Hove regularly. As a child I even stayed in Hove on many occasions with a great-aunt.
It's a great place to take photos! If you follow me on Instagram @cameralabs you'll see lots from around here.
And I need an excuse to visit Brighton for a photowalk there!
You don't need an excuse, just come and visit!
Here's an odd one: Does ibis work better in boost mode?
It adds extea digital stabilisation, designed for handholding static compositions
Thank you so much for the detailed discussion. Helped me making my choice.
You're welcome, glad to help!
1 year later its $1200 with the battery grip. Thinking seriously about the X -H1
I would be surprised if there isn't an X-H2 this year with an X-Trans IV sensor (from the X-T3), so it may be worth waiting. This is pure speculation though.
Its now only $999 with the grip
That is what I am so much confused about. Will a APS-C Fuji camera be capable enough that I can use it to make a short film any day?
Gordon Laing Also what is your opinion about Fuji XT2?
I love the X-T2, it's a great option if you don't need built-in stabilisation.
Yes, you will be able to make films and take photos to a high level with almost any camera. If video is your priority though, I feel Sony and Panasonic bodies are better.
very good review, thank you
Thanks!
One feature that Fuji seem deaf to is in-body HDR processing, something that most of its competition have.
Yes, it's like all companies have a blindness to certain features, like panoramas, interval timers, HDR etc...
yes, I hope they add this feature in the future firmware update together with HDR video.
I wouldn't hold out much hope. The X series has been around since 2012 and unlike most of the competition, has not had in body HDR since launch.
Very detailed and informative review. I am going to hold for the XT-3 or now seriously consider Sony.
Thanks! Yes, it'll be interesting to see what an X-T3 could offer, but right now that Sony A7 III is very impressive.
Revealingly the Sony FE 24-105mm f4G OSS on the A7 III is roughly similar in size, weight AND price to the XF 16-55mm f2.8 on the XH1.
Are there any reasons to get this over the A73?
The lenses in the fuji are cheaper than sony. Plus the selection in fuji are more than sony.
Buy used off secondary market. Paid $900 for mine. 500 clicks!!
Thanks gordon
Only 3 years ago. So much has happened since then.
The title of this video supposed to be about the X -H1 Not a comparison with other cameras.
Did you watch the video to the end? It's still mostly about the XH1.
Sticking with my X-T2, interesting review though.
Thanks, yes I think XT2 owners would probably want more to justify an upgrade.
But how does this differ from the Sony a6500 yes bit rate, it’s larger and a lot more expensive
I'm working on a more detailed comparison, but yes, they are very similar other than size...
great lenses. Really nice out of camera JPEGS and color (my a6500 sometimes has this gross green tint in the skin tones). The "analog" controls are nicer to use.
Gordon what about another review now that this camera as had updates and it’s £999 with grip
Ill stick to my xt2 that thing is huge
As per usual you guys are nitpicking. The bottom line is does a camera take great photos and video. No camera fits everyone’s needs.
Yes it takes great photos, so does almost every other camera, so just take your pick.
You're welcome Brad!
Always interesting guys - I have purchased two H1's and they have been excellent. I don't like or need the grip.
Thanks! Did you own any Fuji gear before?
Philip
@@philipsutton2316 thanks!
И кому я теперь продам GH5?
At 15 minutes he says he has never used the camera... Why is he even involved?
this is a conversational format where one person who has tested it, talks to another person about it.
Congratulations on the most inappropriate comment so far.
How do you feel about the xh2s?
Actually there is only 1 UHS ll card slot. The other is UHS l
Chad Siford page 283 of the manual states both are the same.
In a further development, I tested the buffer flush times of both slots and Slot 1 is indeed a little faster, but only about 25% faster. On the Sony A7 III, Slot-2 was half the speed of Slot-1.
No mention of the Olympus Em-1 as a competitor?
I mention the Olympus in the review! I'm also working on a more detailed comparison with the A7 III, G9 and EM1 II.
Looking very much forward for this :)
Gordon Laing that sounds great Gordon. We're all fighting with the XH1's pluses and minuses :)
Screen forward? Oh man. It is 2019. Just connect your phone and control the camera. Why reviews are done by incompetent people?
Ha ha ha, have you actually tried doing this? The lag makes it impossible for any kind of usable feedback when you and or the camera are moving, so it's simply not a practical solution. Why are comments like these done by incompetent people?
Depnding on the camera the connection will not last as long as you would it have. The intimate synchronization of camaera, eye and hand will not occur, it is a sort of privaze detective voyeurism!
Am I first?
I think you might be! That means you have to watch ALL of it!
Gordon Laing OK! I am in! Love your videos.
Great stuff, I'll test you on it later!
