We don't even know who the suspect is yet, let alone the motive, yet this is already being reported as if the victim being part of the LGBTQ community was the reason they were murdered. Unfortunately, that's a high crime area, where a lot of people have been murdered. Who's to say the murderer wasn't also part of the LGBTQ community? Who's to say the victim didn't know the murderer? Often, the victim and the murderer know each other. The media also forgot to mention that that area is heavily saturated with illegal drug use and distribution, as well as prostitution. I'm not saying that this wasn't a hate crime, solely motivated by the victims identity and sexual orientation, and I'm not saying it is. I'm saying that it would be nice for the media to gather pertinent information before they go with the narrative that the victim was targeted because they were trans. How the hell do you know that when you don't even know who committed the murder as of yet, let alone why they committed the murder?!

About 12 years ago I had a young Transgender man on my show and he talked about Re-transgendering and how the hormones he was taking was making him sick. He decided to stop the process and elected not to have the Gender Affirmation Surgery after all. Unfortunately, he received a great deal of backlash from the Transgender community and death treats. I feel so bad what happen to this young lady.
