I think I'm one of the few guitarists that much prefers E standard/Drop D and Eb/Drop C# tuning. There is just something about the ''directness/fierceness'' of those tunings. I also feel I'm a lot more creative when writing in those tunings.
Same dude. Sometimes I like Drop C, but I always stick in E, Drop D, Eb, and Drop C#
See I feel the same. Whenever I go below C standard all I ever wanna do is chug on the low strings. But when I play D standard and C# (D is my main tuning) I absolutely love it. I play extremely fast and involve all the strings in my writing
@@guitarandgames1386 Same. Rarely I go below Drop C. Sometimes I do C Standard or B Standard, even A# Standard, but I do nothing but CHUG. And it sounds nice, but it is not fun. When I am in a higher tuning, I tend to use all strings and most frets. Now if I get a 7-string, then that will be nice, but I still will play in normal tunings.
I'm with you 100% there. D standard and Drop C are my favourite tunings because of how versatile they are, as they have a nice balance between brutal heaviness and sharp melodicism, which is why a large majority of the stuff I make are in those tunings. After all, most of the styles of metal, as well as the bands that play them that I like to listening to, also use those tunings for a good reason.

i know he appreciates your comment & i know it was well-intentioned but i would be careful about telling creatives what their place is. it’s probably best to just let artists do what they want, how & where they want to do it. i was told all growing up my place was behind the drum kit in a rock band playing radio friendly music & it was infuriating & invalidating. i’m very happy with what i’m doing now & thankfully never took that advice for longer than a short while. when i did take it, i felt empty & frustrated. let’s praise artists for what they’re doing, & not tell them what we think they should be doing. i would love to see him live too but in the end i would rather just see him doing what he loves doing.

With the right distortion and appropriate compositions, even E standard will be heavy. I mean, listen to early Sepultura stuff, up until Arise. That's pretty heavy even today!

For the most part, E-standard is a tad too bright for me. D-Standard is what I seem to keep my axe in most of the time. Even Megadeth play in D-standard these days. Otherwise, Death, Exodus, Testament, The Haunted, Pantera during "Beyond Driven", Obituary, Necrophagist, Kreator, Symphony X, Mastadon, half of Gojira, Children of Bodom, Firewind, and a few good Dream Theater tunes.
@@brianbergmusic5288 Children of Bodom did a lot of drop C in their more recent albums. I do believe a lot of the early work was D standard though.
@@brianbergmusic5288 Megadeth plays in D-standard now because of Dave Mustaine's deteriorating vocals. Metallica encountered the same problem in the '90s with James Hetfield which was when they tuned down to Eb and D standard.
@@Kruegernator123 This is true. I'd imagine that Dave would stick to E standard if his voice box was immortal. As a fan, however, I do enjoy the thicker sound that D-standard gives their riffs, but that's just personal preference talking.

I prefer this tuning. For my ears, it sounds bright and clear. Some of the tuning these days just sounds like a camel farting. 🐫

I played in a grindcore band in E standard and a lot of the riffs were just very heavily picked power chords and trem picking with very little palm muting. That combined with some intense drumming and amazing vocals we created a really heavy sound.

I'm kinda of old school and getting back into metal. I'm torn between D standard and drop D or C#.
This video shows standard blow tuning is still fucking heavy. It's funny drop tunings are fun for riffing but when I start thinking of scales, my fingers go back to standard. Maybe I'm getting too old🤔
