    Installing a Manual Timing Chain Tensioner on a 2008 Yamaha R6R
    This will work for most any motorcycle. The install is basically the same.

    excellent vid! I guess such manual tensioner you have to check from time to time as chain gets older.

      Not as often as you’d think. As long as you’re not hearing any rattling you’re all good 👍🏻.

    Good vid man, a couple of questions on it. Do you recommend doing the engine running portion of the cam chain check? Would the quarter turn in from the really loose setting be about the same as the quarter turn out from all the way in? I went to my local shop and they put one of these on my bike before I knew it. Not that it's particularly bad, I just like to check my own stuff, and it sounds a little tight. thanks

    • @JDSPerformance25
      @JDSPerformance25  3 роки тому

      It’s best to set it before starting the bike...the last thing you want is it too be too loose and jump a tooth and ruin your engine! Yes you don’t want it too tight either..that’s what the 1/4 turn back does 👍🏻👍🏻

  • @Zlee_02
    @Zlee_02 Місяць тому

    Really wish you would have mentioned how easy it is to jump a tooth or mess up the timing. Overtightened mine slightly. Now the engine will not turn over by hand and will not crank. Going to cost a lot more now

    If my chain is at top dead center could the tensioner still be the reason it gives it the rattling noise?

    • @JDSPerformance25
      @JDSPerformance25  Рік тому

      It’s almost always the tensioner…unless you have a broken guide or the chain is stretched.

    • @darbsK
      @darbsK Рік тому +1

      Okay thank you. My tensioner comes in today. Hoping it fixes my issue. Top dead center line seems a little difficult to find. Is it just at the bottom portion of the split? And I line the line above the T to it?

    • @darbsK
      @darbsK Рік тому

      You go a full revolution on the tensioner bolt not the 12mm bolt where you turn it to top dead center correct?

      No this is a common problem. The factory tensioner wears out before the chain does.

    I'm reading the comments on how the ticking goes away when bike is warmed up, but my ticking only occurs after my bike is fully warmed up and riding around for over 10 mins. Could this still be the CCT or would it be the famous yamaha tick everyone is talking about. (03 r6)

    great vid thanks man. do you think if the bike started to rattle loud mid ride and lost power it would be too late for CCT? No oil leaks or smoke and bike will start up fine but sounds like marbles rattling.... I checked chain tension and exhaust side seems very tight im wondering if i caught it too late and it jumped timing or if a CCT would fix this? Thanks

    So if it’s too loose it’ll make a ticking noise is that correct? I have a ticking noise on my R1 when it’s starts up but goes away after it’s warmed up.

      @@joshharrison1169 I replaced it myself with the stock TCT. It took forever because 03 gen was located by the frame. I had to take the gas tank off and air box. Still was a very tight space. After replacing the ticking noise only appears for a few seconds after start up and then disappears. Better than constant ticking from before

    What Cam tensioner is this one

  • @throttle.therapy8444
    @throttle.therapy8444 3 роки тому

    Does it have to be a TDC to put the tensioner? Or is that just a extra step to be safe?

    • @JDSPerformance25
      @JDSPerformance25  3 роки тому +1

      Extra step to be safe...as long as you turn the engine a full revolution and be sure the tensioner is set properly you will be fine. You seen me adjust it while the bike was running...just be very careful it isn’t too loose or the chain could jump a tooth and damage your engine.
