I think his numbers were better partially because his offense was bad. They had to lean on him heavily. I wouldn't say they had a lack of success though, their defense was elite and they were in the playoffs mix most seasons until the defense fell off towards the end of his time in Chicago
There seems to be common narrative a lot of people share when talking about “forgotten players” or players that don’t/didn’t get the respect that they deserve/deserved. the reasons for that being so is, they were reserved (personality), on bad teams, in a small market, and or some combination of those. I disagree with that line of thinking…..though I’m not saying that those things don’t play a role in these players fading into obscurity, because I’m sure that they do, and they certainly don’t help with them and their legacy staying relevant….. but when we look at someone like Barry Sanders for example that argument falls apart pretty quickly . Bad teams (for the most part) 90’s Lions, check, humble and/or reserved personalities, check, smaller market (Detroit) check. And I think we can all agree that Barry is top three on most everyone’s greatest RB ever list…. I’m not saying I know why these players seem to get the short end of the stick, and I hate it for them and for us because they deserve to be praised and shown offf and we as fans deserve to see and marvel at their work…. (I get so bored hearing about the same great players and the same highlights) it’s why I appreciate channels like this so much and plan to do my own one day. All I know is there are countless players, games, plays, etc that I remember that don’t ever get to see the light of day anymore and that makes me both sad and annoyed. With that being said keep up the good work and thanks for inspiration…. Final thought: mainstream sports media can be very lazy and I think at times underestimates the fans knowledge of the game and our ability to care about more than just the quintessential “greats of the game”
Is Matt Forte slept on as a star because of the Bears lack of success in the 2010s?
